53 - Do You Remember the First Time
After yesterday, Amelia wasn't pleased when Damon wasn't with her the next morning, having slipped out to go visit Alaric at the hospital. While she understood, she didn't want him to leave her side, not until she was used to having him back again.
When she was ready, she heading to Whitmore Hospital, a bag of goodies in her hand for Alaric. A fresh set of clothes, a toothbrush and some edible food, given hospital food wasn't generally the nicest thing to eat.
"Amelia, right?" Jo asked, walking over when she spotted her. "We got introduced, but apparently, you weren't in the best place then."
The Evans girl shook her head, slightly sheepish. "That's one way to put it. Yeah, I'm Amelia. Damon's fian- girlfriend."
Jo raised a brow. "Alaric told me you two were engaged. Something happen since he got back?"
"No, everything fine. Great, if I'm being honest. It's just, I don't even know if we still are engaged. It was a spur of the moment thing, and I'd love to marry him, I just don't know if he still wants that. Being dead, or whatever happened to him, may of changed his perspective on the idea." She rambled out, millions of emotions rushing over her face as she spoke. "You probably didn't want to know all that."
"Hey, it's fine." Jo said, as they began to walk down the hall together. "It sounds like you needed to get that off your chest."
Amy smiled, laughing a little. "That's putting it mildly."
Suddenly, Amelia's face crinkles with confusion, when she hears a heart monitor in a room flat line. Normally, given it was a hospital, she would of brushed it off. But, it was coming from Alaric's room, which worried her slightly.
Having heard it also, Jo walks in ahead of her, to find out what was going on. When they entered, they saw it was Damon, having unattached the heart monitor from the former Original. Amelia sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose, shaking a her head at the smirk he shot them.
"You giant child." She told him bluntly, smacking his hand off the different pieces of equipment.
He shot her a point, before kissing her cheek, pulling her into a sideways hug. She wrapped her arms around him, pecking his lips gently, before resting her head on his shoulder. A content sigh left her lips, which Damon grinned at happily. He couldn't express how much he missed this.
"Good morning." Jo greeted the two men warily, as she stopped the constant beep that was sounding.
Ric shot her small smile. "Hey, I don't know if this is a good time."
"Just a head up, Doc." The Salvatore began, making her look at him. "You're are gonna be in real high demand with a bunch of vampires who want to be human again if you could repeat that little healing trick you used at the border with Ric last night."
"Well, just a heads up." She began, mocking him, her facial expression morphing into a warning glare. "But saving Alaric's life was a matter of a treatable death wound, perfect timing, and fear of losing the most interesting guy I've dated in a while adrenaline. One hundred percent unrepeatable, which is why you will tell no one."
Damon glanced at Alaric. "She's bossy."
"Mm-hmm." Ric hummed in response.
Amelia gave Jo an apologetic look. "I'm sorry he's a ass, I'll make sure he behaves."
The former Original scoffed. "Yeah, good luck with that."
"I like her." The Salvatore continued, before tapping Ric hard in the chest, making him wince in pain and shoot him a glare. "Serves your right." He shrugs in defense.
Jo rolled her eyes, before looking directly at Alaric. "Do you have a nice suit and clean pair of socks?"
"Uh, yeah, I think so." He responded unsure.
"Good." She smiled. "I'm releasing you. Hospital fundraiser is tonight. I'm making the interns go, so I need a date. I'll start your paperwork." She turned to leave, before glancing back at Amelia, who was trying to pull out of Damon's arms. "Jason will be there, Amelia. I'm sure he'd love to see you again."
As Jo left, Amelia winced and closed her eyes, having completely forgot about him. Meanwhile, Damon looked between his friend and girlfriend, a unhappy look plastered across his face. "Who the hell is Jason?"
*****
Since that morning, Damon had been trying, but failing to find out who Jason was. So, determined to get some answers, he decided they'd both attend the fundraiser that evening. While she was less then pleased, Amelia used the girls dorm to get ready, promising to meet the Salvatore there.
She went for a simple look, that was comfortable yet presentable. A nice light blue dress, that strapless and a sweetheart neckline, that had a silver flower pattern covering it. It cut off at the knee, and she paired it was some silver heals. She put loose curls in her hair, putting it half up and half down, using a white bow to keep it all in place.
As she walked inside the bar, she immediately felt Damon's stare on her, as she spotted him stood with Alaric and Jo. Smiling softly, she went to walk over to them, only for someone to step in front of her on the way.
"Wow, I didn't expect to see you here." Jason said, having recognized him instantly from the corn maze. "You look amazing."
She blushed a little. "Thanks. You don't look bad yourself."
As a waiter passed, he grabbed two glasses of champagne off a tray, and handed one to her. She took it gratefully, not daring to glance over his shoulder, to avoid the probably annoyed look on Damon's face. Well, at least now he knew who Jason was.
"Are you here with anyone?" He asked, and she hesitated before nodding.
She moved him to the spot beside her, and nodded over to Damon, Alaric and Jo. "Yeah, those are my friends over there."
While Alaric and Jo waved politely, Damon glared in a subtle way, sending over a less then friendly wave. Noticing, Jason raised a brow at her. "I'm guessing he's more then a friend?"
"Yeah..." She trailed off. "That's Damon. My... I'm not sure what we are currently. Probably best I just say boyfriend."
"Ah. The complicated boyfriend." He nods. "I've the got complicated ex girlfriend where I used to live. I should of mentioned it the other night, as she wants to get back together, I just really enjoyed our time together."
"I enjoyed it to, I really did. I mean, other then the car accident." She made sure he knew that, due to the feeling of guilt in her stomach. "When we met, he had been out of my life for a while. Four months, to be accurate. Now, he's back and-"
"So are all the feelings you used to feel for him?" Jason finished. "I get that, trust me." He then held his hand out to her. "Friends?"
She took it with a smile, shaking it. "Friends. Now, I should probably get over there. I'll catch up with you later, alright?"
When he nodded, Amelia walked over to Damon, who was now stood on his own. Even though he wasn't happy, he couldn't help but admire her as she walked toward him. Before she said a word, she finished off her drink, and grabbed them both a new one off Tyler.
She held it out to him nervously. "Look, I know you were listening in. So, having heard what I said, please tell me you aren't mad."
He sighed as he took it. "I'm not mad. I just thought you didn't do any dating while I was gone. I thought wrong, clearly."
"I didn't do any dating." She corrected, her tone slightly more defensive then it should of been. Hearing herself, she took a deep breath, calming herself down. "Look, I'm not getting into this. Not here at least."
A idea coming to mind, he led the way. "Follow me then."

The car journey was silent, which didn't surprise either of them. When Damon finally pulled up, Amelia looked around in confusion, as she got out of the car. She closed the door, leaning against it in utter confusion.
"Why have you brought me to the border?" She asked.
Damon looked down in remembrance. "The night I died, I was here, waiting for the signal of Liz to trigger the explosion. When it was finally time to, you got in the car and refused to leave, determined to go through with it with me."
She nodded. "I remember. That doesn't explain why we are here though."
"Other then when we said goodbye that night, this was the final place you told me you loved me." He began, leaning on the hood of car. "It was here, that I realized you were the perfect girl for me, as you were just as crazy as I was."
"It took you that long to realize I'm crazy?" She smirked, walking over and joining him. "You are not as smart as I give you credit for."
"I was a idiot to think, you wouldn't try to move on." Damon told her, getting to the conversation they needed to have.
Once again, she sighed. "I thought you were dead, Damon. Those four months you were gone were utter hell, and I did some bad things. I got reckless, nearly got myself killed down in New Orleans, then I came back and flipped my switch. When I finally turned it back on, I met Jason, and he made me genuinely happy. I hadn't felt that since before you died."
"I'm not judging you." He quickly defended. "I get it. Just saying though, that guy would not travel through time and space to be with you."
She groaned, unable to hide some laughter, elbowing him in the side. "Hey, serious talk. Just once."
"I'm being perfectly serious." He smirked, making her grin. "Why didn't you call me your fiance, by the way? When you explained me to him, I became the complicated boyfriend."
"Because I don't even know if we are engaged. I proposed, you died, then you magically came back. How does one define a relationship after that?" She asked. "Maybe being gone, gave you time to think it was a dumb idea, and you don't want to tie yourself down to me."
"Wow, I really do pick the crazy ones." He chuckled, and she gave him a dry look for it. "How could you think I would change my mind? I am madly in love with you, and being away just made that even more clear."
Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out a small blue box, one that made her eyes widen a little. Walking in front of her, he got down onto one knee, pulling the box open. It was a simple silver band, with a square shaped diamond on the top. It was beautiful, and it glittered at Amelia's tear filled eyes.
"Amelia Evans." He began. "You proposed to me, and I loved it, but I wanted to give you this in a more traditional way. You are my best friend, the love of my life, I honestly think you are my soulmate. I want to be with you forever, however long our immortality lasts. So, will you do me the honor of marrying me?"
Unable to speak, she nodded rapidly, smiling as happy tears rolled down her cheeks. Damon got back to his feet, took the ring from the box, and slipped it gently onto the correct finger. She looked at it in awe, before throwing herself into his arms, crashing her lips onto his. Damon pulled her closer, kissing back joyfully, enjoying the sensation holding her sent through him.
I apologize for the wait, I got inspiration for this, and this chapter became very easy to write. It's short, but I think you'll be happy with it. Originally, I was going to skip this episode, so I hope it's good.
I hope you all enjoyed, I'll try to update again soon :)
