50 - Black Hole Sun

"You're a dumbass"

Alaric, Jeremy and Amelia sat in the Hospital waiting room, Ric on the phone to Matt with Jeremy sat beside him, puking into a blue plastic bag. Amelia crinkled her nose in disgust, leaning against the wall opposite them.

"Gee thanks" The Gilbert boy groaned, shooting her a glare when he looked up from the bag.

She shot him a smirk back, still emotionless, refusing to turn it on till Alaric kept up his end of the deal. Until then, Alaric was keeping her well within his sight, to spare the lives on any innocents she could feed on. Surprisingly, she was behaving well so far, and he couldn't help but be a little suspicious.

Looking a little green, Jeremy once again pukes loudly into the bag, Alaric patting his back with little sympathy "Atta boy. Get her all out"

"Is he seriously still wasted?" Matt asked over the phone.

"Yeah, little punk showed up on my doorstep at four in the morning. Drunk" Ric tells him "I thought you two were looking for Sarah together?"

"I did my part" Jeremy groans in defense "She is definitely not hiding in the Salvatore liquor cabinet" Amelia couldn't help but snigger at that, holding her hands up innocently when Alaric sent her a look.

"Listen, what about your vampire-hating neighbor hood watch guy? If Sarah goes to him for help, that's a problem" The Original tells Matt, stating what had become obvious to everyone involved.

"I'm on my way to Tripp's office now" Matt replies "I think I can get him to trust me and tell me what he knows"

"That's overwhelmingly optimistic" Amelia butts in "Shall we start running now? You know, for when you inevitably screw this up?"

"Oh, so she's still not herself again?" Matt realizes, not even responding to her, talking to Ric.

Ric sighed "Not yet. I've had a underage drunk punk to deal with. She's next on my list of priorities" When he sees Jo coming, he gets to his feet "Be safe" He says before hanging up, smiling at Jo as she approaches them.

"Hi" He greets, as Jo narrows in on Jeremy.

"Who do we have hear?" She asks, now also glancing at the Evans girl, who laughed at Jeremy as he vomited once again.

"That's Amelia" Alaric introduces, and Amelia shoots the Doctor a fake smile "This is Jeremy" He then continues, pulling the Gilbert boy to his feet "Jeremy Gilbert. He's a little..."

"Underage?" Jo finishes off for him, seeing the state of the boy.

Amelia rolls her eyes "What gave you that impression?"

When she gets given another looks, she just glares back, storming off in annoyance while they finish up. Wandering down the hall, she steals a Doctor's jacket from a side table, and makes her way to the storage rooms. Walking in, she spots a male nurse putting blood bags into a freezer, and smirks.
Being as quiet as possible, she rushes up behind him and pulls him back, covering his mouth with her to muffle his screams. Letting her face transform, she bit down into his neck, aiming for the vocal cords to shut him up.

"Mhh" She hums, dropping his drained body to the ground, wiping some stray blood from her cheek "Now, that was good"

In Alaric's office, Amelia sat at his desk, a pen and paper in front of her. Beside her, was the stack of letters she'd wrote to Damon, so was the box filled with everything of his she had left. Grabbing them, she threw them in the box without a second glance, and began to write in on the blank piece of paper.

Dear future me,

If you are reading this, then it means your plan worked. It means Alaric compelled away your memories about Damon, and your humanity is still of. If this is correct, then well done on double crossing them all. Believe me, it was the right choice to make. Without your memories, you have no emotional trigger, no way for them to make you turn it back on.

Damon is dead. He's gone, and he is never coming back. So even with the rigger Ric put on your memories, they are never going to come back. Not without seeing Damon in the flesh, which will never happen. You are now free. Free to live however you want.

Be free, be happy. Don't let anyone hold you back.

Years from now, you may end up turning it back on, and the guilt will catch up to you. But, when that happens, remember this. It was worth it. Yes, you will have lost friends and burnt bridges, but it was worth it. Because, truthfully, you can't live without Damon Salvatore. As sad as that sounds, he was the world to you when emotional, and his death broke you.

You couldn't let that pain haunt you forever.

Live well, be yourself.

When it was done, she slipped in a envelope, and slid it into her jacket pocket. She then opened Ric's desk, grabbing his secret Bourbon supply, and taking a large swig from the bottle. She put her feet on the desk, leaning back in the chair, holding the bottle tightly in her hand.

"Made yourself at home?" Alaric says, sarcasm laced through his voice, as he walks into the office.

She just glanced him up and down "Good training with Jeremy?"

"He's full of resentment, for what happened to Bonnie" He answers, taking the bottle from her to pour himself a drink "I can't blame him, but I can help him get over it. He can't carry on living like that. Much like, you can't continue on like this"

"Well, we have our deal" She reminds, shrugging her shoulders "Get rid of my memories, I put my humanity back on"

Idea in mind, Alaric perched himself on the edge of his desk, purposely knocking the box to the ground. The contents split onto the floor, making Amelia just stare at it all, as Ric bent down to pick it all up. Once again, her eyes fell onto the pile of letters, and the leather jacket that they landed on top of.

"You know" He begins, picking up the letters when he saw her staring "You always kept these private. Never explained what they were"

"Because they were private" She snapped in response, before calming herself slightly "Feel free to read them though. I don't care anymore. They are just the thoughts of sad women, who let her entire world be controlled by a man"

"Coping mechanisms aren't sad" The ex Hunter tried to reason "Not everyone has the option to turn it off, Amelia. People need these, or grief would make us spiral till the day of our own deaths"

One again, she just shrugged "Good thing I'm not human then. Now, are we going to do this or not?"

He sighed, before giving a nod, and grabbing a chair to sit down on. He knew she was going to double cross him, so he had another plan in mind. And hopefully, it would work before she would realize, otherwise they could lose the Evans girl for good.

"Who is Damon Salvatore?" He asked, compelling the girl.

"Damon Salvatore was my fiance" She answered in a monotone voice "I loved him with all heart. I wanted to spend eternity with him, then he died"

"How did you and Damon meet?" He then compelled, needing a little background to even start this process.

"We grew up together" She answered "Some of my earliest memories are of the pair of us together. Our Mothers were close friends, and it resulted in us being together a lot when little, and forming a very quick friendship. Lily used to say our first words were each others names. Only, I say Day and he said Amy"

Alaric smiled, unable not to notice her eyes beginning to glisten "When did you first fall in love with him?"

She gulped a little "We were still human. It was long before we met Katherine, but my jealously of her forced me to try and act on how I felt. It was at the first Founders party, that I found out he maybe felt something for me. That the night we shared our first kiss. Beneath he stars, on the porch of my house, far away from the dull party"

At this point, her vision was clouded by tears, that silently rolled down her cheeks. Ric knew, from that point on, this could work. He could get her emotions back, it would just take a little more work.

"How did the kiss make you feel?" He asked her, pull the box beside him for later use.

"It felt like a dream come true" She answered honestly, a faint smile forming on her lips "Like I actually had a chance of happiness with him" Suddenly, she jumped up and wiped away the tears, glaring at Ric as she composed herself "What the hell are you playing at? Why aren't you compelling this all away?"

"Because I'm not stupid" He told her bluntly "I knew you weren't going to turn it back on. Did you really think, I'd let you play me like that? Amelia, I can see it on your face, you don't want the memories gone. You don't want to be like this anymore"

She let out a low growl, rushing at him and pushing him back, anger overtaking her in the moment "YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ME!" She yelled, clearing everything off the desk in frustration.

"Anger, that's good" He said, not taking her attack seriously "That's emotion, that's what you want"

"What I want" She hissed, stalking toward him "Is the white oak stake to shove into your chest"

Quickly, he rushed to the other side of the room, bending down and grabbing the box from the ground. She just watched him, as he tipped the contents on the desk, spreading it out so she could see each item.

Grabbing the jacket, he threw it at her, giving her no choice but to catch it. She held the leather jacket in her arms, staring at it thoughtfully, bringing it up and sniffing the familiar scent. It still smelt so like him, even though so much time had passed.

"You're right" Alaric began, watching as she wrapped it around herself, not even realizing she was doing it "Damon is gone. But not from your heart, not from your head. He will always be apart of you, Amelia, you can't just forget about him. Think about what he would want for you, and how you are doing the complete opposite"

He then grabbed the letters, walking over and handing them to her, as tears spilled silently down her face "You've got through this once before. I know it's different this time, I know it's all different, but you can get through it again. You just need to let it all back in"

Tears dropped onto the old envelopes, making the ink on Damon's name run a little, smudging her old cursive writing. That was when the walls she built crumbled, and she was unable to stop them. She sped back against the wall, sliding down it, her silent tears now becoming loud sobs.

"I miss him" She cried out, hugging the jacket tighter around herself "I-I miss him so damn much"

Quietly, Alaric walked over and sat beside her, pulling the broken girl into his arms. She sobbed into his shoulder, as he rubbed her back soothingly, trying to calm her down. Positive was Amelia was back, but the negative was, she was back to feeling how she did before.

Broken.

Hesitantly, Amelia stood outside Elena and Caroline's dorm room, silently debating if to knock on it or not. Sighing, she rapped her knuckles against the wood, waiting for someone to answer the door. When it finally opened, Caroline stood in the doorway and stared at her, surprised to see her anywhere near her.

"Amelia" She says awkwardly "Look, I don't want a fi-"

Before she can finish, Amelia has thrown herself in the blondes arms, muttering a string of apologies as she hugged her. Caroline sighed, hugging her friend back with ease, not hesitating to accept her apology.

Bringing her inside, Caroline closed the door and walked to the mini fridge, pulling out a packet of cookie dough and grabbing two spoons. She held up with a grin, making Amelia giggle and nod, before they both sat cross legged on the blonde's bed.

"I was such a bitch to you" Amelia finally sighed, licking the back of her spoon.

Caroline shook her head "It wasn't you. Don't worry, I get it"

"I just couldn't handle it all, Care" She began, putting the spoon down "I couldn't live without him, I couldn't bare the pain. So, I just shut it all off. I called it a solution to my problems, when it just made things ten times worse"

"Look, we've all dealt with this in different ways" Caroline tries to comfort, making Amelia roll her eyes.

"Don't bring Elena up. I don't want to even think about that right now" She says sternly, blocking out all thoughts of the doppelganger "She's still in love with him, so much so, she had her memories of him compelled away. I had reason to want them gone, she's just crazy"

"We're all a mess" Caroline states bluntly "We lost Damon and Bonnie, then lost ourselves trying to deal with it all. You, Elena, Jeremy, me..."

Amy raised a brow "Stefan?" When she said his name, she flung her head back with a groan "Another person I need to apologize to"

"Don't bother, he won't return your calls nor will he apologize either" The Forbes girls tells her, a bitter tone to her voice "Just some of his wonderful new life traits"

As the night went on, the girls both fell asleep before Elena got back, having talked about a lot before passing out. In only four months, their lives had turned into something they never expected, nor really asked for. It had drained them to this state, and no one knew if they would ever get back to normal again.

Whatever the word meant for them anymore.

Told you she wouldn't get rid of her memories. I got so annoyed when Elena did that, because I ship Delena a lot, and I just wanted them together as soon as Damon came back. Speaking of his return, that happens next update! If he and Amelia will come face to face, is a different story, but the eldest Salvatore will return!

I give you another update, since it took me a month to update this book. Another chapter possibly tomorrow, depending on how college goes and what time I finish classes. I hope you all enjoyed :)
