32 - Death and The Maiden

"Amy, time to wake up"

Hearing that, the girl groaned and grumbled into her pillow, snuggling even more into her half of Damon's bed. After yesterday, all she wanted to do was sleep all day, and forget about her life for a while. But, due to having a suicidal doppelganger in the basement, that was far from possible.

Damon rolled his eyes, sitting down on the edge of the bed beside the girl, giving her a gentle shake "Amelia, come on. Rise and Shine"

Not saying a word, she just rolled over so she wasn't facing him, pulling the duvet further up her body "Sorry, the Amelia you require isn't functioning today, please come back tomorrow and try again then"

She said that like a answering machine, before grabbing a random pillow and covering her ears with it, in attempt to drown Damon out when he spoke again. Despite, how amusing he found it or how much he wanted to leave her sleep, Damon knew he needed to get her up to face the day.

Sighing deeply, he pulled the sheets off of her and grabbed hold of her legs, attempting to pull her out of the bed. Stubbornly, she grabbed hold of the head board and wouldn't let go, making it impossible for him to drag her to the ground. Growling, he then sped and grabbed her around the waist, pulling her out of the bed before she could process what was happening.

"DICK" She yelped, thrashing around in his hold "Damon Salvatore, put me down this minuet and leave me sleep"

Damon shook his head "No, this is for your own good.Just remember you love me"

"Debatable"

This escalated the situation further. Damon threw her over his shoulder, and was now to refusing to put her down, until she admitted she loved him. Both of them as stubborn as the other, neither were willing to back down, and it had turned into a game at this point.

If it wasn't for Elena appearing, this would of went on for a lot longer. The Doppelganger stares at the couple, trying to take in and understand exactly what she is seeing, before clearing her throat to attract their attention.

"Good morning, Elena" Damon smirks, not even attempting why Amelia is only in her underwear, and slung over his shoulder "Anything we can help you with ?"

Amelia can feel herself going red, burying her face into Damon's back, cursing him under her breath. Elena just blinks, before finally finding the words to say "Stefan has his memories back"

**********

"October 1852 ?"

"You broke my nose trying to teach me how to throw a right hook. You also pissed off Amelia, as you refused to teach her also" Stefan answers, as they all sit in the lounge together, quizzing Stefan on past events.

Damon looks up Amelia, who is giving him a narrowed look, remembering that day very clearly "I think your exact words were 'Fighting isn't made for women, Amelia, leave it to the men'" She recalls folding her arms over her chest, tapping her foot on the ground.

"I made it up to you" He defends, then glances at Stefan "And I did not break your nose on purpose. Now, How much did you pay for the hunk of junk motorcycle you ride ?"

"That's a trick question" The Youngest catches on "You bought me that motorcycle, although I'm guessing it was pretty expensive"

"So Tessa just gave you your memories back, no strings attached ?" Damon then asks.

Stefan frowned deeply "Well, it wasn't exactly a gift. It was a lot to take in all at once, everything from blowing out the candles on my first birthday cake to... drowning in a safe" As he speaks, flashes of the safe run through his mind, making his grip on his glass tighten until his knuckles go white.

The glass shatters in his hand, scaring the three opposite him slightly "Stef ?" Amelia asks warily, concern lacing her tone.

Elena stands up, going sitting beside him "Stefan ?"

"Whoa" Damon says, taking the broken glass from his hand "Easy there, buddy"

"Huh" The youngest states "All of that, and I still can't remember my own strength" That is when cries are heard from the basement, and the couple let out a groan knowing what it is, while Stefan tilts his head in confusion "What was that noise ?"

"Uh, well that is.." The Eldest trials off, scratching the back of his neck.

"We have a situation" Elena carries on.

Amelia nods "Sadly, of the Doppelganger variety"

"Katherine ?" But they all shake their heads at him.

"No, nope, not Katherine" Damon tells him, and after they all exchange looks, Amelia and Damon lead Stefan down to the basement to explain.

Standing in front of the cell, they reveal Amara sat on the floor curled up in a ball, talking and screeching to herself.  "I don't know. I don't know" She repeats shakily, rocking back and forth from where she is sat. She then gets to her feet, her hands still tied behind her back like last night, throwing herself at the pieces of wood leaned against the cell wall.

Stefan looks dumbfounded, and just stares at her for a moment, before glancing at Damon and Amelia stood either side of him "What's wrong with her ?"

"Better question is, what isn't ?" Amelia corrects, shaking her head as she looks at Amara "This is all Tessa's fault"

"Tessa turned her into a block of rock, left her in a box for 2000 years, probably went a little stir crazy like those deserted island guys who talk to volley balls" Damon chimes up in explanation, leaning back against the behind wall.

"I said I don't know" The deranged Doppelganger cries, tears streaming down her face, stumbling around the cell in a daze.

"So you're telling me that this girl is the only thing holding the other side together ?"

"Yeah" Amy nods.

"She's the Anchor" Damon finishes, as Amara begins to mutter once again, her voice getting louder and louder each time "As long as she's alive, the other side exists, and we can keep trying to get Bonnie from over there"

"Well, considering she's immortal, I'd say we have plenty of opportunity" The Youngest says, as Damon pushes off the wall and walks to the cell door,  glancing through the bars at Amara.

"You'd think" Damon says, and Stefan watches him pace back from the cell "Except last night she stuck a whole in Silas's neck, sucked the cure right out of him, so now she's not only nuts, she's mortal, which means we have to keep her ordinary little human heart beating until we get Bonnie back"

"Which, she is making a lot harder task then it should be" Amelia says, as Amara causes yet another crash inside of her cell, speaking louder and louder to herself.

"How do you plan to do that ?"

"Silas made a pinky promise that he'd do a spell to bring her back. Unfortunately, he's taking his sweet time coming back to Mystic Falls" As Damon explains, Amelia sighs when she sees Amara break the binds on her wrists, quickly opening the cell door.

"Damon" She says, rushing inside and pulling Amara's wrist from her mouth, holding her back until Damon comes in and restrains her.

"No ! No, let me die ! Let me die !" She sobs, blood running down her lips from the wound she created on herself, that isn't deep enough to do any serious damage.

"Let's hope love is blind or at least deaf"

*********

Silas was backing out on the deal. He wasn't going to help bring Bonnie back, he was just going to get what he wanted. Everyone was angry, pissed even, but they had to focus on the problems they had to now face.

"We need to buy some time, protect Amara" Elena suggested, rapidly thinking up ideas "Maybe we should move her somewhere"

"Silas is a witch. He's a living, breathing GPS tracking device. He'll track her wherever we take her" Damon points out, rolling his eyes at the stupidity of the idea.

But, the female doppelganger doesn't quite "We can't let him anywhere near her until he brings Bonnie back"

"And how do you propose we do that ?" Amelia demanded, folding her arms over her chest and narrowing her eyes at the girl "Come on, Elena, give us ideas  instead of stating the bloody obvious"

"Weren't you listening to anything ?" Stefan suddenly snarls, surprising them all with the glare he sends Elena "He's not gonna bring her back"

"So, what, I should just give up ? She retorts with a scoff "Come on, Stefan. You got your memory back. You probably know me better then anyone else. Do you really think I'm going to give up ?"

"You know what ? You're right. I do know you. You put your hope in all the wrong places" He snaps, his eyes falling on Damon as he continues "And sometimes in the wrong people. Silas needs to die and put us all out of our misery"

At his words, you could see Damon's face fall, even though he tried hard to hide it. Amelia glared at the younger Salvatore, about to open her mouth and shout at him for it, until Damon grabbed her hand and stopped her. It wasn't worth it, Stefan had just got his memories back and had issues to work through still, he needed to be cut some slack.

"As long as he's alive, I'm gonna hold out hope he can help us" Elena stated firmly, and Stefan just rolled his eyes at her.

"Well, as someone who's just spent three months at the bottom of a quarry because of the guy, I wouldn't hold my breath, pun intended. Silas needs to die, and I need to be the one to kill him, end of story"

"You know what you also need to do ?" Amelia says, sick of biting her tongue "Chill the fuck out, and don't take your problems out on all of us"

Stefan ignored her, turning on his heel and walking out of the room, not changing his mind on the matter. Not long after, Jeremy comes bounding in with a look on his face, telling them all what had just happened in the basement. And, it could be potentially be the answer to all of their problems.

"Amara could see Bonnie, and Bonnie could touch her. They made physical contact. It's like Amara's got a foot on each side or something" The Gilbert Hunter explains, Bonnie standing behind him listening.

"Amara exists in both places at once, here and the other side" His sister clarifies, her tone sounding wary.

Damon just stares straight ahead, pursing his lips in thought "The she not crazy crazy; she's just talking to dead supernatural beings roaming around our basement" You could hear the sarcasm dripping from his voice, making Bonnie roll her eyes at him.

"That's no the point" She sighs, smiling as Amelia nudges her boyfriend in the ribs, giving him a look to shut up for a moment.

Jeremy smirked for a moment, before beginning to explain Bonnie's idea to them "The point is that if Silas isn't gonna help us what if Bonnie could be the same thing ? What if she existed on both sides at once ? What if she became the anchor ?"

"You're right. Jeremy, you're right" Elena smiled a small smile, a plan coming to mind "So all we would need is someone who could do that spell"

A groan escaped Damon's lips, knowing exactly where she is going with this "Oh, please don't say who I think you're gonna say"

"Yeah, she is not stepping foot in here after yesterday" The Evans girl said, her voice firm and filled with slight anger, not wanting to be anywhere near Tessa after yesterdays events.

"Think about it. Silas wants Amara to die, Amara wants Amara to die, so who besides us has the biggest stake against letting that happen ?"

*********

A hour later, Damon arrives back at the Boarding House, with Tessa in toe seemingly willing to help. Amelia walked toward them, giving Tessa a narrowed and dangerous look, looking for the smallest reason to kill her there and then. Sadly, she couldn't seem to find one and she needed her to get Bonnie back, making her very frustrated indeed.

Tessa however, looked highly amused seeing the girl this way, and gave her the most wicked grin she could manage. Seeing her grow tense, Damon wrapped his arms around Amelia's waist, pulling her so she was right up against him. Within an instant, she calmed down and leaned back against him, resting her head on his shoulder.

"Oh, how sweet" Tessa deadpanned, frowning at the couple for a moment, before glancing around the large house "So you two live in this giant mansion with two doppelgangers that are destined to end up together ? I swear there's a sitcom in there somewhere"

Amelia let out a snort "More like a soap opera"

"So, where's the ancient boyfriend stealing bitch ?" Tessa asked, moving the conversation on.

"This way" The Salvatore said, before leading her down to the basement, leaving Amelia to do her own thing.

Knowing Katherine was due to arrive, she made her way upstairs to Damon's room, and flopped herself down on the bed. By avoiding Katherine, it stopped her doing anything stupid and irrational, which would be a good thing for the time being. It didn't take Damon long to find her, and joined her on the bed without a word, pulling her into a hug and resting his head on her shoulder.

Smiling in his grasp, she rolled over and pushed the hair out of his eyes, staring into his bright blue orbs with a grin "I love you" She whispered out, gently pressing her lips against his and lingering there a moment, before pulling away slowly.

The Salvatore could only grin, running a hand through her curly locks "I love you too. Are you okay ?" He then asked, and she just gave a tired smile.

"I will be" She promised "Once we have Bonnie back, things will go back to normal. Well, vaguely normal. And we, can pick up where we left the summer off, having the time of our lives together"

"I like the sound of that" He hummed contently, as she closed her eyes to rest, enjoying the moments peace they were getting "Maybe I'll get chance to take you out on a date" He suggested, and her eyes blinked open in excitement.

"I like the sound of that"

He chuckled, pressing his lips against her forehead. A normal couple. They wanted to give that a shot, even though they would never be fully normal, being Vampires prevented that. Buts, dates was a normal thing, and they would make sure they would find time to have them.

"We could -" But, when the sound of strong wind from outside cuts her off, and the sound of Tessa yelling from downstairs.

"SHOW YOURSELF, BASTARD !"

"Charming" Amelia mutters, groaning as the power suddenly cut out, plunging them into darkness "Well, moments over, back to our regularly scheduled drama"

*********

"NO !"

The moment was truly ruined, as when they got downstairs, both Amara and Tessa were missing. Turns out, Stefan had to taken Amara to get to Silas, who he planned to lure into the woods and kill.  So, while Elena got a injured Tessa to finish the spell, Amelia and Damon wen to search the woods for Stefan and Amara.

What they found, caused any hope to shatter down around them. Silas was dead, leaned back against a tree, with Amara knelt in front of him crying. Pointed at her chest, was a pocket knife that was held shakily in her hands, and they knew instantly what she planned to do.

She plunged the knife into her chest, and Damon rushed to intervene, while Amelia stood there frozen.

"Amara. No. Amara, Amara. Drink this. Drink. Drink, more" Damon said quickly, biting into his wrist and placing it against her lips, only for her to cough and splutter it back up "No, no, no. Okay, no. Hey. Stay with me. Look at me, look at me. Amara, Amara. Hey ! Look at me"

Amara looked unaffected by his desperate pleads "I've been in hell for 2000 years" She choked out, her lips stained with hers and Damon's blood.

"What's another five minuets, huh ?"

Her voice becomes weak and raspy "Let me die" Slowly, her eyes begin to fall closed, her head tilting to the side.

Despite his best efforts, Amara was going to die, there was nothing to be done to stop it. When that becomes clearly, Amelia shakily walks forward and puts a hand on Damon's shoulder, shaking her head at him "She's had enough, Damon, just let her go"

Despite it all, he knew she was right. Amara and Silas were dead, Stefan had gotten the revenge he wanted. Damon then went to find Stefan, while Amelia made her way back to the house, knowing she needed to tell Caroline and Elena.

But, as she entered the living room, she was met by the unexpected.

"Bonnie ?" She questioned, staring at her in utter disbelief.

Bonnie smiled at her, nodding her head with sad yet happy eyes "Hey, Amy"

She wasted no time, and engulfed the Bennett witch in a hug, still confused as to how this was happening. Tessa was able to finish the spell, they had got what they all had wanted, and got rid of everyone causing them misery.

Maybe, life could get to a normal level.

Maybe.

This ending sucks, I know, but at least it is a update. The episodes I've been dying to write now start, such as The Cell and the crossover episode. I'm gonna screw with all your emotions bad, so be warned.

Hope you all enjoyed :)
