3rd person perspective
It's been a week since she last saw her brother, one week since she heard his voice. The thought was breaking her that she will never get to see him again.
Sitting on her bed she was looking at the picture in which she was in his brother's arms secure and safe. Right now her world was broken and everything was a mess for her.
She didn't cry after seeing her brother vanishing in a deep slumber of peace. She maintained silence and her silence was making everyone worried.
"Aranya, come outside," she heard her mother's voice echoing in her Grandma's house.
Taking slow steps she came outside and to her surprise, her parents were present there. It was a rare sight because even after Rishi's death her parents never came to see her together.
She needed a motherly affection and a fatherly embrace but she was void of both of them. Shrugging her thoughts she moved to the hall and sat beside her Grandma.
"Our divorce is finalised and now Aranya decides you want to live with your father or mother," Says her father
"How can they go and get a divorce so easily when their child is suffering. They lost one forever and they want me to choose one of them. Why is God doing all this to me," Aranya thought while looking at her parents.
"Neither of you," Aranya said getting up and her parents looked at her with wide eyes.
"Where you want to live then footpaths, you can't leave all this behind. We also have the pain of losing our son but that doesn't mean that we will sit back and cry forever," Her mother said, stopping her.
"Just yesterday we had bhai's Shanti pooja, and today my parents are in so much grief that they are getting divorced. Mom, if this is the way to show grief then I don't want it. You guys got separated. Enjoy it but please don't drag me.
I will better stay on footpaths like an orphan child but I won't stay with you both. I think bhai had some kind of instinct that something like this was going to happen. He already told me to live with Grandma," Aranya said feeling frustrated.
"For how long even your Grandma is suffering from the disease. If not today then maybe after some years you had to come to one of us," Her father said she left without looking back.
Closing her door she stood rooted to the door and tears streamed down her eyes. She slides down the door and kept her hand on her knees crying silently

"You need to give her medicine from time to time. Her pain is settled inside her. You need to hear her pain, she requires someone who could listen to her. As a 16-year-old girl this all is too much for her to take," Doctor told Rehaan and he nodded her head
"Thank you so much doctor, do I need to bring her for a check-up again," Rehaan asked.
"No, her health is fine now. Just need to focus on her diet," Doctor told him.
Coming out of the doctor's cabin he bought the prescribed medicines and sat on his bike.
"How many things have changed in the past one week. She isn't herself anymore. Should I go and talk to her but her parents must be with her. What if they felt that I am intriguing way too much?
She is my best friend. I will help her let them think whatever they want," Rehaan thought and started his bike.
Parking his bike in front of her Grandma's house he entered inside. Seeing Aranya's Grandma sitting alone in the hall she was wiping her tears while her parents walked past him.
Looking at Aranya's parents retrieving figures who had an unknown expression on their faces he quickly went to her Grandma.
"Is everything alright Gma, what happened Aranya is alright," He asked, kneeling in front of her.
"Her parents took divorce and…..," She told him everything that happened there.
Rehaan sat beside her and consoled her.
"Gma, did she eat anything since morning and did you," Rehaan aksed
"No beta," Gma replied.
He went inside the kitchen and looked around, finding a packet of bread and some boiled potatoes. He quickly made some sandwiches.
Tossing the sandwiches in two plates be walked towards Gma. With all the difficulty he made her eat them and walked towards Aranya's room
He knocked several times and got no response.
"Why is she not responding? Is she alright? What if she did something unthinkable," Rehaan's mind got filled with thousands of questions.
He went outside in the backyard and looked for a way to enter and luckily a window was slightly open and it didn't have much difference from the ground.
"Keeping the sandwich plate on the side he climbed up on the window and opened it entering the room.
Due to the sudden opening of the window the bright sunlight fell on her face as the room was covered in darkness.
He stood in front of her and picked the sandwich plate he kept outside on the stand while entering.
She looked at him with half-opened eyes and stared at him.
"Why are you here," She asked, getting up.
" I am here for you, best friend," He replied, making her sit on the bed.
"I am not your best friend," She said, not meeting his eyes.
"Why, what happened," Rehaan asked, making her look at him.
She looked down instantly and tired standing when he yanked her back and she sat back.
"Tell me Aranya, talk to me, share things with me. You told me that we are best friends and we are partners," He said looking at her.
"You will also leave me, just like bhai left me, just like Ma and Papa got divorced and now they want to divide me. In some years Gma will also leave me. Everyone will leave me," She said and tears slipped off her eyes.
Rehaan cupped her face in his hands and wiped her tears with his thumb.
"What if I say that you are the only friend of mine. I want to keep you forever. I won't leave you ever not in any situation. And about Rishi bhai, don't think he left you, he is here with you.
As your strength, you have to make him proud.
Remember you told me that bhai asked you to be strong when he left," Rehaan said, hugging her from the side.
"Bhai must be watching me from heaven, Right," She asked with glassy eyes.
"Yes, now see I made a sandwich for you," Rehaan said, showing her the plate.
"Rehaan, I don't want to eat anything, pl..," before she could continue he stuffed the sandwich in her mouth.
She looked at him with doe-like eyes and chewed the sandwich.
"Finish this because after this you have to take medicine. I will come here every morning and evening. After a month we have our exams and I will make you study it," Rehaan said, making her eat the sandwich.
"I can't give the exams," She said
"You want bhai to get sad," Rehaan said, raising his eyebrows.
She immediately shakes her head and he smiles looking at her.
He made her finish the sandwich and gave her medicine and she yawned a bit as past one week she rarely slept.
"Feeling sleepy," Rehaan asked and she nodded
He kept her head on his lap and caressed her hair slowly.
"You will always be my best friend," Aranya said slowly, slipping into her sleep.
"Always and forever," He said, kissing her forehead as she slept.
