A 16-year-old girl was rushing down the corridors of her school. She nudged everyone coming in her way. Her steps halted as soon as reached the playground of the school where her best friend was playing football.
"Rehaan," she shouted at the top of her voice.
Everyone in the playground followed the owner of the voice and they smiled looking at the girl standing there gasping for breath as she came all down running.
Only one pair of eyes stuck to her and he tossed the football to his friend and moved to the girl picking his water bottle.
Forwarding the water bottle in her direction Rehaan made her sit on the bench. She drank down all the water and smiled at him sheepishly.
"How many times I have told you Aranya, not to run like this," Rehaan said, hitting her forehead.
"And how many times I have told you not to skip your lunch," She said and opened the lunch box in front of him.
Rehaan sat beside her and started eating his lunch while she told her how she forgot to bring her homework now she was fearing to go inside English class.
Rehaan finished his lunch and told her that he also didn't complete his homework.
The lunch was over and they made their way to the class. Rehaan sat on the bench signalling Aranya to calm down.
Soon their English teacher entered the class. The whole period she taught them literature and didn't ask for the homework.
The last fifteen minutes were left and Aranya prayed that they pass in peace.
Just then a voice came from the first bench saying," Mam, won't you take homework you gave yesterday,"
Aranya looked at him with a killing glare and the teacher started collecting the homework.
"Aranya," The teacher announced her name and she got up looking here and there.
"Mam, I forgot the homework copy, I completed it while staying awake at night," She said innocence dripping from her words.
"Get out of my class, and any one of you who forgot to bring their homework kindly leaves my class at this instant," Her teacher announced.
Aranya looked at the whole class and everyone submitted their homework. No one stood up and she started leaving the class when she heard footsteps behind her and looked at Rehaan and his friends.
They all came out of the classroom and stood close to the wall.
Minutes passed and they broke into a fit of laughter.
"Rehaan we are going to the Canteen you want to join," one of his friends said and he declined.
Rehaan and Aranya stood taking the support of the wall. He took out a chocolate bar from his pocket and gave it to her.
"You didn't forget your homework, right," Aranya said, munching the chocolate.
"What made you think that," Rehaan said looking at the empty corridor.
"I saw you shifting your notebook in between your desk when the teacher asked you for homework," Aranya said, looking at him.
He avoided looking at her because at this moment he knew he was caught
"You look cute when you shy away," Aranya said slowly.
"You are openly flirting with me," Rehaan said, raising his eyebrows.
"What's the fault in flirting with your best friend," She said as if stating a fact.
"When did I become your best friend, I remember you made me your friend because you found me suitable to listen to your non-stop rants, and now what have I done to be the best friend of the great Aranya Sinha," Rehaan asked her
"Now you became my partner in crime and that's one of the synonyms of a best friend," Aranya told him and he smiled looking at her cute facial expressions.
They stood there talking about some random topics when the period got over and Aranya ran inside the classroom dragging Rehaan with her.
The school got over and before they left the class the teacher announced that the CBSE boards have introduced the date sheet of the 12th board's exam.
Aranya was sitting inside her school bus when Rehaan appeared behind her and sat beside her.
"You didn't have to go for Kathak classes?" He questioned her.
"I am skipping the class today as Rishi Bhai is going to Agra with Abhi and Laksh Bhai, and I won't let him go without meeting me,"
"Oh yeah, don't worry he will be back soon," Rehaan said and she hummed with an unsettling feeling inside her heart.

Reaching her home, she heard the loud voices of her parents. They were again fighting, growing up she never saw her parents in love. They either talked for work purposes or fight some reason unknown to her.
Keeping her shoes aside she walked inside and entered his brother's room.
"Bhai, I will miss you," Aranya said, hugging Rishi from his back.
"Baccha, I will come back soon and don't worry I will drop you at Grandma's house before leaving," He said, kissing her forehead.
She hummed and hugged him tightly. Many times Rishi went for his trips but she never felt the way she was feeling today. She wanted this fear to go away and wanted to find solace in his brother's arm.
"I bought something for you and I want to give you before going away," He said and made Aranya sit on the bed.
Walking inside his closet he picked out a box and told her to open it.
She opened the box and a wide smile made its way on her face.
"Camera and Ghungroo,Omg bhai this is indeed the best gift, they are 200 bells ghungroo I always wanted," Aranya said chirruping excitedly.
Ghungroo is a musical anklet tied to the feet of classical Indian dancers.
"I know my munchkin wanted it, so I bought them. Now pack your bag and listen if Mom Dad says anything to you or fights in front of you, don't get traumatised," Rishi said, kissing her forehead.
Aranya hummed smiling at him and started packing her bags.
Soon they both left in Rishi's car and drove to their Grandma's house.
They both meet their Grandma and Rishi comes out to go. He was going to sit inside the car when he looked at Aranya who was staring at him with a smile.
"Munchkin, Promise me you will never get yourself weak. If I am not present here you will go to Abhimaan and Laksh if you ever need something, they are your other two brothers, and if you ever feel traumatised with Mom or Dad then you will stay with Grandma," Rishi said, hugging his sister. All of a sudden he felt the need to say this to his little sister.
"You will always be present here with me, never leave me bhai," She said and he kissed her forehead and said ,"I won't leave you,".
Rishi sat inside his car and drove away while Aranya's eyes followed the car till it vanished off her image.
Little did they know that destiny has stored something different and unknown for her.
