Author's POV:

Meet Oakley Mae Johnson. A young girl who has been through so much in her 7 years of life. She was born to Marilyn Izzie Johnson and Nathaniel Jean Johnson on January 15, 1980. Life was actually really decent and amazing for little Oakley. Marilyn was a criminal defense attorney and Nathaniel was a manager of a record store. Everything changed when tragedy struck the family. Marilyn's death in 1984. Marilyn, unfortunately, passed away due to unforeseen circumstances that occurred in a highway collision. After Marilyn's death, little Oakley's life went downhill and continued to do so. Nathaniel, sadly, got addicted to drugs and lost his job after ignoring multiple warnings to not show up to work high. Oakley was seriously neglected by Nathaniel countless times and was eventually picked up by Child Protective Services. Not too long after that, Nathaniel was found dead due to an overdose. By the time all of this happened, little Oakley was 5-years-old. Oakley was then placed in foster's care and continued to experience neglect and abuse at the hands of other kids and one of the supervisors at the foster's care for a couple more years until one day brought hope to young Oakley's life.
