Third Person View

The day started with an unusual discovery. None said a word and could only stare down at it.

"What the...?" Izumi said, her face paling.

Minako followed, "Who would do such a thing?"

Sonohara, who was leaning on the wall near a window, noticed them and spoke up. "Oh... It's already like that when we came too."

Upon closer inspection, Tsudawari narrowed his eyes. "Uwah... Girls are scary."

At that moment, the door slid open and in came three girls.

"Good morning."

"Morniing.."

"'Sup?"

Shintani, Mizuno, and Yamazaki respectively said at the same time, stepping into the classroom. Their eyes were on a particular pink haired girl.

"Hm? What's wrong?" Mizuno tilted her head to the side, noticing the strange looks she was getting. She walked closer to her desk, which was the second from the back in the third row. Immediately, she let out a small gasp and her eyes widened.

Her desk's surface was full of snide comments from an unknown addressee. The biggest word she could read was "worthless bitch", which was written from the top and stretched until the bottom. Others were words something in the lines of "gross", "no one likes you". Everything was written in black ink or paint, Izumi couldn't tell.

Crumpled up papers were under her desk, some have fallen to the floor. Without opening it, the pink haired girl already knew whatever written on it wasn't so pleasant either.

"Ah... they're at it again," Mizuno said with a tiny voice.

"Mizuno-san..." Minako put a hand on the shorter girl's shoulder.

"Mamiko-chan... Why didn't you...?" Shintani looked at the vandalism.

Mizuno looked up and gave a small smile. "Well, at any rate, I should clean this mess up before Shiota-sensei or anyone else sees..." She hung her bag on the hook of her desk.

"I'm going to the infirmary to get some alcohol." She glanced at the others before walking towards the door.

"Ah, Mizuno-san!" Yamazaki ran up to her. "Let me help." Shintani also walked up to her. "Me too." The door closed and once again, the class is silent.

These happenings unfortunately weren't that uncommon, yet it doesn't make it any less cruel. Usually girls would be both targets and culprits, but Izumi never thought Mizuno would be one of the victims. She also seemed like she knew what she was doing when she went to the infirmary. Has this happened before?

In an instant, memories began to rise up in Izumi's head. She saw a younger version of herself, isolated from the rest of the class. They whispered something behind her back. Moved away when she walked down the hall.

"I don't get it," Minako spoke, and it pulled Izumi away feom her deep thought. "Why would they do that to Mizuno-san? She's no troublemaker, if anything, she's the sweetest girl I've ever met."

"Y-yeah," Izumi agreed, trying to get in the conversation. "Mizuno-san was always sort of a ditz, but she's really friendly and sweet. Oh, and cute. Super cute."

"Hmph," Fujinaga crossed her arms as she narrowed her eyes with contempt at the grafitied desk. "Whoever it was, they're going to go through hell for what they did to her."

Tsudawari clenched his fists and his face showed determination. "Yeah! No one shall ever disturb Mizuno-san again!"

The ever so sweet Mizuno becoming a target for bullying came as a surprise, because the pink haired girl always seemed fine. But if she was actually getting harassed, Izumi shuddered at thinking how long she must have endured it. And to conceal it beneath her for who knows how long, something within her must have bubbled up, right?

At that moment, she noticed a particular comment on her desk. It wasn't as big as the others, and it was written sideways across the left edge of her desk. The silver haired girl tilted her head. "Boy stealer," it read. That one sentence was enough to give her an understanding.

"She didn't want anyone to know," Shintani had later told them during lunch, in a secluded garden within their school. "I accidentally ran into her when I was going home one day. She was being cornered by the lockers..."

Izumi, Minako, Yamazaki, and Fujinaga listened intently. "She said she had been confessed to by an upperclassman that day. And when they found out, they..."

"So it's jealousy," Fujinaga looked down at Shintani who was sitting on a bench. "I should have known. I can't stand some of the girls in this school."

"That's awful." Yamazaki looked down and swung her legs back and forth. "What a stupid reason to get so worked up with. So I'm guessing they keep at it until now?"

Shintani nodded solemnly. "After she told me not to tell anyone, I couldn't help but worry for her. That's why I became close to her until now. I know I should have told somone earlier... But I just couldn't with how she begged me. I know it's partly my fault this is still happening, yet..." She buried her face in her hands.

Izumi looked at the grass beneath her feet. "Shintani-san... How long ago has that happened now?"

"..." Shintani looked up. "That happened during halfway through 10th grade."

"So this has happened for almost three years?" Yamazaki's eyes widened.

"But why didn't she want anyone to know about it?" Minako asked. "For all I know, they could have some serious consequences if the faculty and student council were involved, maybe even expulsion."

"I think it's because... she believes that even the cruel are doing such things to her, she should still repay with kindness, not the same cruelty they treat her with," Shintani said. "In the end, I think it's because the goodness of her heart."

They all stayed silent. Could someone truly be willing to stay silent even if they were being harassed for a long time? All because they believe the bad should be repayed with good?

"Shintani-san," Fujinaga spoke with a low growl, the story obviously making her teeth grinding. "Do you know who the culprits are?"

The light brown haired student looked down again. Then, with a small voice, she said, "Yoshioka-san. Yoshioka Rinka-san."

And with that, Fujinaga turned on her heel and speed-walked back into the building.

"Wai- Fujinaga-san!" Minako stood up and called.

Yamazaki also looked at the deep orange haired girl. "Fujinaga!"

"..." Izumi and Shintani didn't say a word.

Fujinaga ignored the calls for her name and stormed off to Class 3-3. She knew exactly who Yoshioka Rinka was. She was that super gaudy chick, always showing off her glam with that annoyingly high pitched voice of hers. She was always with that group of friends, probably all as horrible as her.

She understood that Mizuno was the type that couldn't tell people off. So she was willing to do it herself.

Slamming the door to Class 3-3 open, she stood at the doorway. "I'm here for the trash called Yoshioka."

People stared at Fujinaga. Lunches were stopped. Silence ensued.

Then, a snort. "What did you call me?" A blonde girl, the ends of it orange, in a high ponytail scoffed.

"You. Come here for a sec." Fujinaga narrowed her jade eyes at Yoshioka, clearly giving off hostility.

"Heh, what's up with her?" One of the girls beside Yoshioka giggled.

"What a weirdo."

Yoshioka stood up from her seat and walked towards Fujinaga. She put a finger to the other's chest. "Listen here, you go and barge into someone else's class and start insulting me? That's a big no no, dearie."

"I need to have a talk with you. Outside." Fujinaga didn't seem to be intimidated, as she crossed her arms and looked down at the girl.

"Ugh, there you go again making orders to me," The ponytailed girl twirled her hair around her finger. "We're in the middle of something here, so unfortunately for you, I'll have to decline."

One of the girls from Yoshioka's group spoke with a laugh. "Hey, Rinka. Isn't she that rumored girl who killed one of her classmates back in grade school?"

Fujinaga flinched, her body immediately tensed up at her statement. Her jade eyes widened and she stood frozen in shock as the whole classroom let out a small gasp and started murmuring to one another.

Memories began to bubble up to the surface.

"Ahahaha! What'cha gonna do now?"

"She's all scared and trembling!"

"What do you say, Fujinaga-chan? Should we teach her a lesson?"

A giggle erupted from Yoshioka, pulling her out of her thoughts. "Oh, so you're the one?" She crossed her arms and tilted her head, inching closer to Fujinaga. Her earrings that were dangling swung, the light illuminating them making them sparkle with a glint. "How terrible, Fujinaga, was it? Yes, that Fujinaga, who bullied her classmate to the point where it killed her. Oh, poor soul...."

Another laughter was heard roaring from the girls.

Fujinaga clenched her hands tightly, not caring how her fingernails dug deep into her skin, surely leaving marks. "Don't act like you're any different..." she said, her voice barely audible to even herself.

She had initially come to her classroom to confront Yoshioka. There was a reason she specifically said she wanted to talk outside, to a more secluded space where it was only them two. Even though practically the whole school knew how Yoshioka was, she still didn't feel the need to expose her when there are other people around. It was a cowardly move.

And here she was, witnessing Yoshioka do just that.

Everyone's laughter was abruptly stopped as she raised her arms and grabbed Yoshioka by the collar of her uniform. "Don't act like you're any different from me, hypocrite!" She screamed at her, making Yoshioka yelp from the sudden tug of her uniform. "You don't have the right to say that crap to my goddamn face!!" She shook the girl in her hands.

Fujinaga felt a hand on her right shoulder, and suddenly her eyes could see clearer. She looked over her shoulder, and saw Izumi looking at her calmly. Behind her was a worried Shintani who was clasping her hands together, and Yamazaki with a determined expression.

She realized her sudden outburst had gathered an audience, and she received stares from people in the halls and classroom alike.

"Don't let this sorry excuse of a person get to your head. We'll figure it out together." Izumi looked at the taller girl, her amber eyes glistening.

"Yeah, Fujinaga," Yamazaki slowly followed. "Whatever happened between her and Mizuno-san, we'll take care of it together, promise."

With that, Fujinaga slowly put Yoshioka back on the ground, her hands retracting from her collar. Her eyes were shadowed as Izumi lifted her hand from her shoulder. Her body turned and she took a couple of steps out the classroom. "...You're right, you are different from me."

Yoshioka looked up at her questioningly as she fixed her shirt.

Fujinaga looked back at her with confident eyes. "The difference between you and me, is that I've changed."
