Chapter 8: Endeavoring Success
Yes I'm aware that the cover still hasn't changed yet despite me not liking it and saying that it'll be changed soon. *cries in laziness*
Also, reading back on my older works, I realized even more that they're sooo cringey like wth. Especially that one standalone book that NO ONE should ever mention. That book can go burn in a fire.
I mean, not saying that my work now isn't cringey... but man.

Izumi's POV
A peculiar group of people caught my eye in the morning. Curiously, I stepped closer to the small circle of three.
"Wat'cha guys doing?" I peered in to see some sort of map on a piece of paper with some scribbled arrows on it.
Enomoto-kun was standing tall, arms crossed. He always sort of had a rougher personality, and the spiky blonde hair he has only made him look more like a troublemaker. Upon seeing him, everyone usually gravitates away from the boy, noticing he had a scary aura.
But, I guess that applies to most of the students in this class.
Suga-kun on the other hand had his hands in his pockets, seemingly focused on the piece of paper. The sides of his head are shaved, leaving a fluffy-looking mohawk standing in the middle. I've always wondered if he actually spends time in the morning to style his hair, since that mohawk seems to always keep its shape... His creamy brown colored locks seemed natural.
"Ah, Konishi-san," Yamazaki smiled at me. "Enomoto and Suga just came up with a fun plan against Shiota-sensei. I got curious too and butted in!"
"Heeh," I looked at the map they drew out. "So what's the plan?"
Enomoto-kun answered, "First off, after this is English. And you know how she always brings those heavy-ass dictionaries? Top that off with the assignment we're gonna collect today, there's no way in hell she'll be able to carry it to the staff room by herself."
"We'll just send someone to help her carry it, at the same time distracting her," Suga-kun continued. "Then I will wait for a chance to strike near a corner behind! If it looks like she'll notice me, Enomoto will be waiting to strike too behind a vending machine ahead of her." A spark lit up his eyes.
Enomoto-kun held up his toy gun. "I've been wanting to make use of these shabby toy guns, but it's so freaking annoying how the pellets are shot so damn slowly! Not to mention the loud sound it gives off..."
The ponytailed girl beside me spoke again, "That plan sounds pretty solid. So who's gonna distract Shiota-sensei?"
The blonde boy tilted his head and hummed. "That's the thing. We haven't found anyone willing to do it."
I looked at the boys, "If it's distracting, wouldn't you want someone unsuspecting? Someone that seems relatively... Well, not hostile, to say the least. It won't work if you send someone like Mizuguchi-kun..."
"You got a point." Enomoto-kun out his fingers under his chin and closed his eyes. "We need a goody two shoes, someone that wouldn't hurt a fly, so gullible-lookin' that the Teach won't suspect a thing."
Suddenly, all four pair of eyes shifted to the boy who walked in the class and warmly said, "Good morning!"
There stood Sunada-kun, a glasses-wearing boy that'a not much taller than me. He had simple styled dark cyan hair, and a hoodie was sticking out around his neck from underneath his uniform. He had noticed the four of us were staring, and he flinched a little.
"Hm?" He tilted his head, smiling awkwardly.
Suga-kun walked up to him and put his hands on both the shorter boy's shoulders, making him jump a little. "You have been chosen!"
"Eh? Eh??" Sunada-kun looked up to him, meeting his anticipation-filled eyes.
Just then, another pair of students walked in the class, breaking the sudden silence around the classroom.
"Good morning..." A soft voice spoke. I saw Shintani-san walk in with Mizuno-san just behind her.
"Hmm?" Shintani-san put a hand on her cheek. "Oh my, the class is rather quiet despite everyone here. Did we interrupt something?"
Mizuno-san noticed Suga-kun who still had his hands on his shoulders. "Huuh? That's weird. Are Enomoto-kun and Suga-kun bullying Sunada-kun?"
"Not true!" Both delinquent boys answered in unison.
-Lunchtime-
"That's all for today. Remember to be back before the teacher comes after the bell, all right?" Shiota-sensei smiled, and just like that, it was lunchtime.
After hearing the bell, everyone immediately dispersed to find a spot for lunch. I noticed Suga-kun glancing towards Sunada-kun. Enomoto-kun was already out the class, probably to his shooting spot.
"Ah, Sensei!" Sunada-kun made his move, walking towards the teacher who was most likely figuring out a way to bring everything to the faculty office without having another trip back. "Let me help you with that."
She looked at the boy, her eyes widening a bit. "Eh? Oh, I think I'll be fine, Sunada-kun. Maybe I'll just need to come back here for the other things after all..."
"It's fine, Sensei. Those look pretty heavy, and I don't mind lightening your load a bit for a change."
I watched the scene play from my seat, with Yamazaki-san sitting on the desk that was beside mine.
The student took the dictionaries from her hand with a smile. Shiota-sensei watched him struggling a bit to find a position that's comfortable to bring the heavy books. She narrowed her eyes a little.
"Ooh, that look's pretty scary," Yamazaki-san whispered to me. "You think she'll catch up?" She swung her dangling legs.
"Sensei? Let's go." Sunada-kun said.
The look that she had disappeared in a flash, making me wonder if I had just been imagining it. Yamazaki-san appeared to think the same, gazing over to Shiota-sensei with her head towards the floor.
I looked at Shiota-sensei and Sunada-kun walking towards the door. I noticed Suga-kun's already disappeared from class.
I smiled, "Let's go find out."
I pretended to head to the bathroom with Yamazaki-san. The faculty office was a floor below us, so maybe we couldn't follow them the entire way. I heard Sunada-kun making small talk with our teacher.
I glance at the corner behind us, and Suga-kun was peeking from it, eyeing Shiota-sensei. Suga-kun should have a clear view of her. Although not part of the plan, Yamazaki-san looked towards Suga-kun and signalled him to shoot, her fingers curling to form a gun behind her back.
We continued our walk forward, and we looked at the two in front of us to make sure Shiota-sensei was still distracted. Sure enough, Shiota-sensei was laughing at whatever it was Sunada-kun had said.
"Any moment now..."
Instead of hearing a low "pop" sound from the gun, I heard a high-pitched scream, and clearly, it caught the attention of just about everyone in the hall.
"KYAAA! A gun! He's holding a gun!!" A female student pointed towards Suga-kun, who had his arms out holding the toy pistol and just about ready to shoot.
The mohawked boy's eyes widened at her, and he panicked. "W-wait, this ain't a—"
"GET HIM!!"
In a flash, all the boys around us rushed towards Suga-kun with a shout, all piling up on him. The gun dropped and slid across the floor, and poor Suga-kun was trampled upon.
"..." Me and Yamazaki-san paled, sweat dropping.
I glanced over, and both Shiota-sensei and Sunada-kun seemed unamused by what was happening.
Looking back at the scene, I was quite surprised to see them ganging up on him instead of ducking to take cover. Well, at least it's good to know that the male students here are apparently more heroic than they seem...
I then saw a girl pick up the gun on the floor, and she pretended to inspect it. "Oh, my... This is but a toy gun." Shintani-san smiled. What she said was somehow heard even though the boys on Suga-kun were shouting relentlessly.
They halted to look up at her.
"Eri-chaan..." A panting girl came along beside her, and I recognized her to be the pink haired Mizuno-san. "You got here so fast..." She noticed the pile of students on the floor. "Hmm? Are you guys having a group hug?" She beamed at them.
The bright aura she gave off quickly made the boys scurry off of Suga-kun, all shyly looking at her.
"O-oh, Mizuno-san!"
"We had to intervene when we saw something dangerous like that..."
"But it'a a fake, isn't it? Hahaha..."
Mizuno-san took a look at what Shintani-san was holding, and she must have realized what was happening. "Oh, it's a thing that goes 'bang bang!' huh? It does look pretty scary..."
She seemed to have tamed the boys, and Suga-kun slowly recovered from shock as he stood back on his feet, taking in the scene before him.
"As expected of Mizuno-san," Yamazaki-san grinned. "Clearly no one can go against her cuteness!"
Shiota-sensei walked by us and to the group of students. "All right everyone, I'll handle it from here. Go continue your break." She dispersed the pack of male students.
Yamazaki-san and I watched from the sides as everyone went on their way.
Later...
"Suga-kun got called to the faculty office," I had said to Minako later on.
"Heeh..." The brunette looked at me. "Too bad I wasn't there to witness it. Student council's pretty busy, after all."
"Oh, after they dispersed, Shiota-sensei and Sunada-kun continued their way to the faculty office. Enomoto-kun unfortunately made the same mistake as Suga-kun, since he thought the plan was still on! In the end, he too was caught by a teacher and joined Suga-kun in the faculty office after school."
Yamazaki-san suddenly smirked. "But man, you should've seen his face! Still, I guess it was our fault for not concealing the fact that we were trying to shoot our teacher..."
I looked up at her, "But isn't this bad? We're not gonna get free food at this rate if any of the other teachers find out we've been assaulting our homeroom teacher..." I sighed, resting my head on my hands.
"Shiota-sensei got some scolding, too, I'm sure..." Shintani-san spoke as she walked closer to us, her voice soft and silky as always. "I feel a bit guilty, even though it was not us who got caught..." She put one palm on her cheek.
"No kidding," Minako added. "Two of her students were caught holding up guns, about to shoot... Fake or not, I'm sure they would get some consequences regardless..."
"You're not completely off the mark, Arisato-san."
We turned our heads to see a familiar blue-haired woman going in the class, Suga-kun and Enomoto-kun following behind her. The two were almost pouting, and I held in a laugh.
"Good, most of you are still here," Shiota-sensei said. "Thankfully, these two got off with just a warning. They were lucky since no one was injured, and the fact that the guns were fake."
Everyone had held off going home for now, since we were all worried to know if we were caught or not. Well, aside from few individuals like Mizuguchi-kun, Sakurai-san, and Mikami-kun.
"What level of idiocy did you reach now, Suga?" Tsudawari-kun laughed, his hands in his pockets as he leaned against the window. "High tier? God tier? That'll be a new record!"
"Yeah, we almost lost our chance of free food," Sonohara gave a chuckle.
"Ugh, shut yer traps!" Suga-kun shouted. "I'll admit I was... a little careless, all right?"
"Understatement," Fujinaga-san sighed, crossing her arms in her seat. "You were practically waltzing in the halls with that thing. Not to mention Enomoto went and did the same idiotic thing..."
Enomoto-kun looked at the reddish-brown haired girl with a fist. "Hey, I was just going with the plan! How was I supposed to know it backfired on us?"
Shiota-sensei looked at us from the podium. "I must admit that I was also partly at fault. It was me who gave you all the things in the first place."
"Yeah, but, it was us who didn't know how to use it and commence a plan properly," Yamazaki-san admitted.
The tall mohawked boy rebutted. "Hey, we knew how to use it, and the plan was going fine—"
"Oh please," Fujinaga interrupted him. "You guys clearly didn't asses the situation properly."
Shiota-sensei gave a smile. "Well, although the plan did have a chance, there were its flaws. As Fujinaga-san said, Suga-kun didn't properly consider that he wasn't in a secluded place, but a crowded hall full of people. At that point, it was straight out murder, not assassination, considering the method of killing," she explained, her pointer finger pointing upwards.
"And Enomoto-kun. Having a backup plan is always the right option, since the main one often doesn't go as predicted. But you guys didn't communicate at all with him that was still waiting on the first floor. So when he saw me and Sunada-kun, he just assumed that Suga-kun had failed to see the opportunity to strike." What she said made me, Suga-kun, and Yamazaki-san flinch. She was totally right.
"Even though the situation was pretty out of hand on the second floor, you should always think of your other comrades, and always update them on what's happening."
"And lastly," Her head turned towards me and Yamazaki-san. "Stealth. If you're going to act, be sure not to keep staring so suspiciously. If you're to follow, make sure your target has absolutely no way of knowing."
My eyes widened. "So we'd been found out from the start..."
She was already on to us the moment she noticed we were staring weirdly. And I thought we were being so smart about it, too...
I pursed my lips. "Nothing really gets past her, huh...?
"But, it was a good attempt. I'm looking forward to what you all would come up with again in the future." She gave us another warm smile.
"Sheesh, we weren't even close, huh?" Suga-kun scratched the back of his neck.
Enomoto-kun glared at our teacher. "Tch. She really figured us out to the bone."
Tsudawari-kun chuckled. "Well, next time we'll get her for sure. And the rest of us will be joining right in! Right, Dorameon?"
Doraemon-kun flinched in his seat, seemingly surprised that his presence was suddenly acknowledged. "H-huh? Yeah, sure..." He lifted up his round glasses further up his nose bridge.
"How about we use that techy brain of yours to concoct a new plan?"
"What?" He replied unamusingly. "I'm just good at programming and inventing stuff, not thinking up of brilliant schemes."
I noticed Aoba-kun raising his hand. "Um, can we go home now? I fell asleep just listening to all of you... Your conversation ended up going into my dreams..." He yawned loudly, covering his mouth.
"Yeah, let's go home!" Yamazaki-san hopped off of her seat. "All this assassination bussiness is making me hungry. Anyone wanna join me for ramen?"
"Ooh, I want to!" Minako raised her hand. "Izumi will, too!"
"Ehh?" I said despondently. "I'll get fat..."
"I would also like to join!" Mizuno-san stood up also. "I love to jump at the opportunity to use my new cute chopsticks every chance I get!" She showed off her pink chopsticks in a cute case up in the air with her two hands, a sense of cuteness aura going off of her.
"What, you just ate ramen yesterday, Mio!" Sonohara-kun snickered.
"Shut it!"
In the midst of it all, I noticed Shiota-sensei still giving off that signature curve of her lips.
Really, what a strange teacher...
