What is it worth?
I flew over the trees of the forest, letting the warm winds brush against my wings occasionally gliding through the breeze ruffling through my feathers. I peered down at the world below all the people looked so small from up here, all of them going about their daily chores, which they do time and time again. Humans have such limited time and yet they spend most of it on so many mundane things. They always want more from their lives and yet they still go on with the status quo. They blame others for their problems, whether it be lack of fortune, no prospects or opportunities or even a lack of love in their lives, there is always someone to blame.
I've always found people to be fascinating, they are a living contradiction and among all my years of existence they are the most unique creatures purely because of their choices. I've never seen so many diverse forms of choice among the other creatures I've met. With humans choices can be born from logic, or passion, even revenge, but they usually come from self interest and self preservation. Humans are truly an interesting species.
I reach the lake not too long after I started flying, I'd been so lost in my thoughts that I hadn't realized how long it had been. Then again time to a demon means very little, when you immortal the stream of time is more of a trickle. A small line of water that with the smallest amount of effort you could change it's course to follow whichever path you desired. I drop my wings to my side letting my self plummet through the air, opening my wings as I was inches from the ground. I felt the rush in my bones, as I soared low over the ground, with a few strong strokes of my wings I lifted up into the trees of Scuttlebutt island. I dodged the branches tucking in my wings then spreading them as wide as they could go, as I sped through the island letting my senses spread out before me.
The fog that covered the island sent chills up my arms as my breath came out in small wisps of steam. The forest on this island was so deep in fog that the sun itself couldn't penetrate it, the trees looked bleached of color and the trees and there was no sound not even a leaf shifting. I take a deep breath closing my eyes as my awareness spread, in this pocket I felt a presence it was like gentle pull around me. I knew what this was or rather who it was, I followed the pull into a small cave where by the entrance a woman in a long purple dress waited or me.
"Bill Cipher" She smiled her lips parting into a wide inviting smile her gold- green eyes shining at me in the dim light.
"Why are you here?" I say flatly. Her smile turned into an exaggerated pout.
"Is that anyway to greet an old friend?" She leans against the wall of the cave, she grins at me with a cold familiar charm. I raise my eyebrow at her and sigh in exasperation.
"Why. Are. You. Here?" I repeat rubbing my forehead in mild frustration.
"I was passing through when I found a lost little creature wandering around. At first I was going to ignore it, but then I could smell a connection to you. So I made this pitiful creature a deal to bring you back to this shit show of a dimension. Now I'm just waiting for IT to fulfill his part of our deal "I tried not to scowl at her as she insulted Dipper, but I bit back my retort and tried to keep my voice steady.
"What do you need from him?" I gently flex my hands trying to contain my rising annoyance.
"What I want from your ...... pet, he can't give me. At least not yet" I wince at her comment about Dipper, but ignore it putting on my best smile. In my mind I imagined ripping her to shreds, but I pushed those thoughts away. This demons sweet smile hid astonishing amounts of cruelty. Her bright green eyes held ancient knowledge known to only the oldest of beings in our galaxy.
"Then tell me what you want and I'll get it for you" She smirks at me, as if I'm a child that asked why the sky was blue.
"I'm afraid that not even you, the great and all powerful Bill Cipher can get me what I want"
"Surely then we can come to some sort of agreement?" The anger under my skin was silently creeping through me, I clenched my fist as this she-demon continues to beam from ear to ear brimming with superiority.
"What do you think you could possibly offer me that would make me want to give up my prize?" She's beginning to remind me of a smiling cat from an old human story that I could no longer remember.
"I'll let you return to the 2nd dimension" Her smile disappeared as if it had been slapped off her face, it took all my power not to start grinning myself. Her green eyes turned a dark red the veins in her jaw shifting like worms under her flesh.
"Now why would I want to return? After you threw me out my name was slandered. I lost all the respect of my followers, but here" She gestures to the forest of gnarled blackened trees her arms drawn out wide trying to touch both ends of the islands.
"Here I'm like a Goddess, the poor simple creatures that walk this worlds surface revere me" She throws back her head listening to the voices in her head, no doubt praising and worshiping her. She seemed to almost glow in this invisible adoration, her face twisting into an expression of pure ecstasy. Her form shook, it was unstable for a moment and I could see her true self peer through the illusion. I still remembered every twist if that form every curve and extension, it made me feel sick to my stomach. Her illusion snapped back over her as she lifted her head and stared at me intensely .
"Come join me Bill, be mine once again"She reached out brushing her fingers under my jaw, I stepped away with a grunt of displeasure. Her returned as she withdrew her hand.
"Such a pity, but no matter. I'll get what I want either way" A sudden gust of fog blew in my face and like that she was gone. The birds were once again singing in the trees and a frogs lonely croak sounded off in the distance. I stood there for a moment silent, I still had no idea what she wanted from Dipper.
"Why must demons be so fucking cryptic !?" I screamed into the trees, the birds nearby took off their cries of alarm reminding me of laughter. I shifted my form taking off from the ground, I had to get back to Dipper, whatever it takes I will protect him. That's a promise, I won't let her near him, she was a memory a picture and past that I longed to leave behind. Although it was starting to seem as if no matter where I went she'd always be tied to me. She was almost like my shadow, when once she was my equal. Now I wanted to leave her behind in my past, but she and I obviously don't want the same thing. So that still leaves me with a large burning question, that tumbles through my mind over and over.
What does she want?
