Chapter 8

Adrien and Marinette took a seat at the table, next to each other. They looked at each other, a little awkward and nervous before Adrien spoke to his father. "So, any specific reason you wanted to see us father?" He asked.

Gabriel cleared his throat and nodded. "Yes indeed. I wanted to discuss the ideas you two have for your wedding. I have some of myself of course and the things I find an obligation." He started as he looked at them with a straight serious face. Marinette always got the shivers from that look even though she has almost never seen him with another look on her face.

Adrien's eyes widened and gave a quick glance to his girlfriend before looking back at Gabriel. "Uh excuse me? Uhm obligation?" He asked a little in disbelief. Gabriel nodded and intertwined his own fingers on his lap. "Well yeah, with your standards there are some things that are absolutely obligations since we have to keep up the good name."

Adrien tensed a little and his leg started bouncing up and down. Marinette saw his jaw tense and moved her hand to his knee. She rub her thumb on the side of her leg in the hope it would calm him down. Adrien placed his hand on top of hers as a sign of thankfulness as he didn't move his eyes off his father.

"What kind of obligations?" He curiously asked but was also a little afraid of the answer. Gabriel reached for the bundle of papers on the table and held out the first two for the couple. Marinette grabbed them from his hand before they both took a look.

"Those are the guests that absolutely have to get an invitation." He explained. Adrien raised his eyebrows and let his eyes glide along the long list. "Father, we don't even know most of these people," he explained, truthfully. Gabriel shrugged. "So? With these people, you'll wedding will be for sure the event of the year!" He said as he had a slight grin on his face.

Adrien shook his head as he took the papers rather rashly out of Marinette's hand. Marinette winced as she looked at her hand and noticed a paper cut. Adrien heard her suck in her breath and quickly looked at her before throwing the papers on the table. "Sorry, baby." He hastily said. She gave him a sad smile.

"Look father, we don't care if our wedding is the event of the year or not. We want to marry each other because we love each other and we want to do it surrounded by the people we love." Gabriel shook his head in disapproval and placed his thumb and middle finger on the bridge of his nose.

"Son, she's gonna be an Agreste. That has to be celebrated in style." Adrien silently cursed under his breath. "Dad, It's not about her becoming an Agreste, It's about the fact that we're committing to each other."

Gabriel took a deep breath. "Alright. You can decide your own guestlist." He reassured. Adrien nodded. "We can decide everything." Gabriel wanted to interrupt but Adrien didn't even let him. "No, father. We're old enough to able to plan our own wedding."

Gabriel hummed, looking very shocked at the outburst of his son. "So, you don't need me for anything?" He asked to clarify. "No." "Actually-" Adrien began but now his fiancée interrupted him. Both of the men turned their heads and looked at her.

Mari looked nervously at them and cleared her throat. "I have already designed my wedding dress and I'd like to use a specific kind of fabric for the top of the dress and I was wondering if you could help me get it." She politely asked. Gabriel pushed his glasses more on his nose and nodded. "Well yes of course! Just let me know which type exactly and how much you need and I'll make sure you get the fabric." He told her and Marinette smiled accepting.

Gabriel coughed and stood up from his chair. "Excuse me. I'm going to get some tea." He said before he left the dining room to the kitchen. They could just hear him asking one of his private chefs for some tea.

Marinette turned back to Adrien and squeezed his hands. "Are you alright?" She asked. Adrien nodded and ran a hand through his hair. "Yeah, but god, I overreacted didn't I?" Marinette placed both her hands on his. "No, you didn't overreact. You just had a pretty strong reaction." She replied causing them to both laugh a little. "But I think you made your point very clear." She reached out to kiss his cheek just in time before his father got back from the kitchen with his cup of tea in his hand.

"I would like to ask one thing." He announced as he sat back down at the table. "What is it?" Adrien asked. "Well, I'd like to plan you guys an engagement party. It doesn't have to be big and you can invite whoever you want." Gabriel explained. Adrien looked at Marinette for her answer and she just shrugged at him. "I don't see why not."

Gabriel signed Nathalie to come over. "Nathalie, find a venue we can use for the engagement party next Saturday." He told her. Nathalie immediately wrote down some stuff on her tablet before looking up at him. "No problem." She said before she walked out.

Gabriel turned back to his son and future daughter-in-law. "Please. Eat." Gabriel said. Adrien gave Marinette a little grin before he dove for the plate of croissants.
