Metropolis

Yes I'm well aware of the title of this Story, Forever and Apprentice. But don't worry, the title will make sense when I get to the end of this story. It just won't be as you thought it was going to be.

"Wake up Star. Star? Starfire?" Robin shook Starfire awake. "We're here."

Starfire yawned and sat up.

Even though Robin had gotten them first class seats, Robin was Unable to sleep. He was too busy thinking and trying to get over what had happened. He declined all food and drinks he was offered. He couldn't believe Slade had Gotten away...

"Are we in Metropolis?" Starfire brushed her hair straight.

"Yeah." Robin looked out the window. The plane was descending.

"We Don't have to stay a night in Metropolis if you don't want to." Robin pulled on his jacket.

"We shall see." Starfire answered as she gazed out the window.

"Please stow all tray tables and fasten your seat belts. We are going to land shortly." The flight attendant announced into the speaker.

"Who is this friend you wanted to see?" Starfire asked as Robin helped her fasten her seat belt.

"Just someone." Robin sighed and looked away. The plane was about touch the ground.

Starfire frowned. Robin wasn't going to tell her.

"We can stay at a hotel today." Robin told her while he was thinking about where he was going to meet this friend.

"Okay. Have you been to Metropolis before?" Starfire asked, hoping to get an answer this time.

"Yeah, I have. A long time ago." Robin replied, thinking about when he was here last.

"For what purpose did you come?" Starfire inquired.

"Batman and Superman were chasing the same villain, and so I had to come along." Robin replied, almost smiling thinking about the villain who thought he was so smart, not just going against Superman, but Batman? He had to be crazy.

"Oh." Starfire shrugged. The plane landed. "Oh! B..umpy." Starfire giggled.

When the plane finally stopped, the flight attendant spoke again. "Please remain seated until the seat belt sign has turned off."

Starfire sat up, eagerly waiting to get off the plane and stretch her legs.

When the seat belt sign turned off, and even before, people got up, and started to get their bags in a hurry.

"Come on Star." Robin stood up and grabbed his bag. Starfire nodded and they got off the plane and out of the airport. Much later, He had Starfire settled in a hotel, while he sought out his friend.

Robin, now fully clothed in his Robin costume for the first time a in while, made his way to the top of a building.

He just sat there on the top of the building, hoping that maybe, his friend would come by. Mostly because he didn't want to take an direct approach.

Robin was half hoping he wouldn't come by. And half hoping he would. It seemed peaceful and quiet. It gave him some time to think. His friends were worried about him, and it was hard to fake he was fine with Raven, and when his best friend that knew everything about him was near. But Kid Flash was gone for the moment.

And Raven in Jump City. He could fake it with Starfire easily. For now at least.

Maybe he would get better, it was just he didn't feel like himself. The trauma he had been trough, felt like it was too much.

"What are you doing here?" A voice spoke up behind him.

"Hello to you too." Robin sighed. He was here.

"I mean what are you doing in metropolis?" Robin didn't turn around to look at him.

"I don't know. I thought maybe a I could get away, from all that's happened. I feel worse and worse everyday. Bruce said I should talk to someone about it and I'd feel better." Robin replied, his voice husky.

"And you decided to talk to me?" A bit of Arrogance spread over his words.

"I don't know, maybe. I didn't really wanna go back to Jump City. Not yet. I thought A little detour might ease my mind. I lied to Starfire about meeting a friend here, but I thought why not." Robin chuckled sadly.

"I heard about what happened. It was all over the news." He leaned against the wall.

"I guess Bruce had to tell the press somehow, or I'd still be a public enemy." Robin wondered what would happen if he didn't.

"Perry had us do a mini story about it in the paper. I gave it to Lois though." Didn't he always?

"Hmm..." Robin sighed again. "I don't think I can go back to being Robin. Maybe I should just hang it up." Robin frowned realizing that he was wearing the Robin uniform as they spoke. He tugged on the R. Maybe he should of listened to Bruce so many years ago when he was shot by The Joker...

"I don't think that's a good idea. Robin is part of who you are, without it, you could feel lost, like a part of you is gone. And what about your team?" Now Robin was just talking crazy.

"But I do feel lost. A part of me feels like it doesn't know right from wrong anymore. The line is faint." The sunlight hit Robin making him wince.

"Let me tell you a story. On my planet, there used to be a brave and powerful hero. His name, was Nightwing."

"Ugg..." BeastBoy flopped on the couch. "That was the longest plane ride ever!"

"It wasn't that long B." Cyborg took a spot next to BeastBoy.

"All I want to do now is take a nap." BeastBoy curled up on the couch.

"Whatever Man." Cyborg reached for the remote. Raven watched them settle on the couch. Raven sighed, and left for the roof.

The Tower was quiet without Robin and Starfire. But instead of enjoying the peace and quiet, she kind of missed them.

Raven phased up to the roof. It was dusk. The sunset reminded Raven of how Robin used to love watching the sun rise and set.

Raven sat down and watched the sunset. As the light slowly terminated, the moon became slightly visible.

The wind blew, the stars came out, and Raven shivered a bit, when the moon had fully come out, the breeze was on full force.

Raven wrapped her cloak around her tightly.

"Aren't you cold?" A voice from behind Raven spoke gently.

"No. Not really." Raven lied.

"Hm. What you doing out here?" Beastboy sat beside her.

"I don't know. What are you doing out here?" Raven Asked back.

"I like to look at the stars sometimes." BeastBoy answered as he gazed up at them.

Raven simply shrugged and sat quietly next to him. The pair watched the stars, silently keeping each other company.

"Nightwing?" That name sounded vaguely Familiar.

"Yep. He fought crime on Krypton. He had a sidekick you know." He mused thinking about his home planet.

"Who was his sidekick?" Robin perked up slightly interested in the story.

"Flamebird. They made quite the duo." (Btw I'm not making Flamebird up, look it up.)

Robin thought about were he heard Nightwing before. "So what happened to them?"

"They died fighting for krypton. They failed unfortunately, that's when my parents sent me to earth." He frowned.

"Huh." Robin couldn't get over it. Were had he heard Nightwing before?!

"As I was saying, they fought together until the very end. They never gave up. And neither should you."

Then it hit him. Robin remembered.

FLASHBACK.

"Then Nightwing handed me the clock, and I entered the vortex." Starfire took a breath from explaining.

"Woah..." Raven started.

"BALD?! Your telling me I'm going to be BALD?!" BeastBoy yelled in shock.

"Guess your were right about all that reckma stuff." Cyborg frowned.

"I don't want us to drift apart, does it all have to happen? Isn't there anything we can do?" Robin asked softly.

"Our friendship has already changed warp's past. I believe it can also change our future." Starfire smiled. It was good to be back with her friends again.

"So...is it to late to do this festival of friendship thing?" Raven asked as dark magic picked up the necklaces.

"Oh it's never to late!" Starfire became excited and smiled brightly as a necklaces were placed around her friends necks by Raven.

"HAPPY BLORTHOG!" Cyborg yelled in Raven's face.

"Blorthog? I thought it was blort hog." Beastboy shrugged.

"Okay. I feel like a wind chime." Raven rolled her eyes and Cyborg.

Starfire picked up a necklace and placed it around Robin's neck.

"So, Nightwing huh?" Robin liked the sound of that.

END OF FLASHBACK

Robin smiled remembering that day.

"You see my point?" Superman broke Robin from his thoughts.

"Oh yeah yeah. Sure. Thanks." Robin stood up. He had to get back to Gotham. Now.

"So your going to keep being Robin right?" Superman smiled.

"Oh no I'm not." Robin took out a grapple gun.

"Wait, what? I thought you got my point!"

"Don't worry, I'm not giving up on the hero thing." Robin smirked and grappled away, leaving a confused Superman behind.

"Star! Wake up!" Robin shook a sleepy girl awake.

"Huh?...what time is it?" Starfire sat up.

"We have to go back to Gotham, right now. I got us tickets already. We need to get to the airport now!" Robin urged her as he picked up her stuff and stuffed it into a suitcase.

"Why Friend Robin? Did we not just leave the city of Gotham?" Starfire stood up and brushed out her long hair.

"I know, but we have to go back. There's something I gotta do." Robin wheeled the suitcase out the door and grabbed his backpack. He hadn't felt this motivated to do something in awhile.

"Oh, okay." Starfire nodded as they left the hotel room.

"What do you plan to do with the boy, Master Bruce?" Alfred asked as he watched Bruce work on his computer in the cave.

"I don't know yet." Bruce's answer was short.

"But now since The Titans are gone and This whole ordeal is over, surely you will think of something." Alfred replied smartly.

"This isn't over. Slade got away. It isn't over until he's behind bars in Arkham." Bruce Sternly replied.

Alfred shook his head slightly. "You can't just keep him here forever."

Alfred changed the subject back to Jason.

"I know that." Bruce replied slowly. What if... "You like Jason right Alfred?"

"Yes, he is a bright little boy." Alfred smiled.

"So does Barbara and Dick right?"

Were was he going with this? "Yes, I'm remember them having a few laughs together."

"He knows my identity already, and he's an orphan..." Bruce trailed off.

"Absolutely Not! Don't even think about Master Bruce!" Alfred half yelled at him.

"What? I didn't-" Bruce cut of when he heard a noise from upstairs. Jason was in the cave somewhere, there was no one upstairs...

"What was that?" Bruce stood up.

"I'll go check on it." Alfred vountered.

"Wait." Bruce grabbed his arm. It could be Dr Leslie, or even Barbara...

The heard the clock door shift and move out of place. Two pairs of feet could be heard coming down the stairs.

"Thanks. Keep the change." Dick nodded to the taxi driver as Richard Grayson and Starfire stepped out of the car.

He was of course wearing sunglasses. Robin pulled Starfire across the lawn in a hurry as he raced to the front door of the Wayne Manor.

Robin had been silent the whole plane ride. Starfire fell back asleep, she really needed it anyways. Robin was thinking about how he was going to do this.

"Come on." Robin pulled the double doors open and pulled Starfire inside.

Starfire raced after Robin as he sprinted to the clock leading to the Cave.

Robin moved the clock hands to 10:47 and the clock shifted open and the pair made their way down the steps.
