Gunshots
As I hug Zach I smile to myself. This is how I always imagined it. I turn my head to whisper in his ear, "I love you," I whisper softly.
I watch as his jaw tightens showing that he's smiling even though I can't see his face. As I hug him I move in front of him and I look into his deep green eyes. I can tell that he really loves me. As I step onto my tiptoes to hug him I'm disturbed by a loud bang.
A loud bang coming from the distance. I look around anxiously not knowing where it came from. As I look around some more I realize Zach bolted away.
I run after him grabbing his sleeve.
"Where are you going?" I ask scared that he was going to leave me.
"The castle. It's the rebels. I have to go," he says sharply knowing he was wasting time.
I reach forward to hug him one more time, "I love you," I say as tears run down my face.
"I love you too. I need you to take this, just in case," he says nodding at me as I take the small knife in a leather pouch from him. Then he pulls away and runs towards the exit of the secret garden. I hear something lock on the other side and it takes me a moment to realize he locked me in here.
I pull the shiny sliver knife out of the leather pouch to realize that it's not a knife. It's a dagger. On the handle of the dagger is a star with two circles, one around the outside of the star and one in the middle of the star. I don't know what it means, but it must mean something.
As my eyes work their way up and soon I'm transfixed by how the now setting sun reflexes off of the dagger. It's beautiful really. I stare at it for a few more minutes before the sounds of gunshots pull me out of my gaze. I need to get out of here. I look around anxiously looking for another way out.
I spot a large vine that reaches up the brick wall of the secret garden. I quickly run towards it and start to climb. It's pretty stable. I really wish I wasn't wearing a dress. I keep climbing until I'm almost at the top of the wall.
As I reach for the last vine to pull myself on top of the wall the vine breaks and I'm falling backwards. I try to grab the other vines, but they're all out of reach.
As I fall backwards, I pick up speed and in no time I'm plummeted into the earth. It felt like being trampled by a thousand bulls all at once, but worse. Like being shot in the same spot over and over again even though your blood is gushing out. Like someone literally pulled your heart out of your body and started squeezing it tightly.
It felt like all these things and much more as I passed out from the impact.
