PART FOURTEEN

25.

It never wanted her; it never did want her. It took from her twice and it never wanted to take her specifically. It did take her life, it took her world and it let her live, let her go on in her own world. In that own world, she had been left cold, she had been left alone not once but twice. Why did it not want her? Why did it let her live?

Darkness begins to set in, and Terrence still hides. A madman, a lunatic with a chainsaw more or less came out of nowhere looking like something out of a horror movie and it more than appeared that he came with the intent to inflict horror movie like destruction. Maybe this chainsaw person was just having a bad day. Still ...

In here though, there is no day, there is no night, there just is ... what you see. Despite all that is going on, Terrence is sure that for a split second at least, he can once again see Mary. But that split second is just that ... a split second. None of this can be real; in fact, it is all so crazy that it cannot be anything other than real.

Having gone on the run with two fourteen-year-old boys, or rather ran off in the general same direction, Terrence took cover. The sound of the chainsaw has gone, the two fourteen-year-old boys gone too. Their capture and possible murder is an unlikely thing but then again, what does Terrence really know? He did not hear any mutilation occur, that does not mean all the lives of relevance to this situation, are still intact.

The sound of the chainsaw no longer rings out through the woods, Terrence still hides. Out of one kind of danger to run right into what would appear to be another kind of danger. What is being lost on him in this moment is that if time does not exist in this place, then why is a darkness coming? Time does exist but both all at once and from one moment to the next in no specific order.

Sitting in the shadows of the largest tree he has so far seen in this place; Terrence is ready to make another run should such a thing be necessary and such a thing is likely to be necessary right now. To run, however is something he has no time to attempt to do. To his right something is moving along the ground, and it is moving towards him at great speed. Miniature life, thousands of miniature lives coming his way.

Spiders, a multitude of spiders, a trail of small dark spiders are rushing towards him, there is no time to think, no time to run, the spiders are swarming him, climbing up one leg, then the other, rushing all over his torso, rushing all along his arms and hands, soon they completely cover him. One horror has without a doubt now been replaced by another, things all around have got dark, maybe the intentions in this moment are not all so dark.

Thousands of small black spiders completely cover Terrence, and they continue to scurry all around him for about ten seconds before moving off and away from him. A matter of only a few seconds pass until each and every one of those spiders have left his body, soon they are no longer in sight. In a blind panic Terrence checks himself over. No damage has been done as far as he is aware, no bites, no nothing then it hits him.

The spiders, when they surrounded every inch of him, Terrence saw something, he had a vision, a flash of a vision. Did the spiders show him something? Maybe something else wanted to show him something and it came through these insects, insect which are now gone, nowhere to be seen. This vision, it shows him something occurring back up on that horse chestnut trail. Susan Lynch, the daughter of Cecil Lynch is walking alone along this trail and as she is, she looks just like she did when Terrence had visited her.

It was May nineteenth, 1997, when forty-one-year-old Susan accompanied father on a walk along this particular trail, as they talked, as Cecil talked ... he vanished. When Terrence, along with Mary, had talked with Susan as she was the week before Terrence came to be in the park, she had acted in a sure manner that her father was fine.

The vision shows older Susan walking alone along this trail recreating the conversation she had been having with her father as if she were stuck in that moment or as if what she is doing is something perfectly normal and as every day a moment as anything else can be. This time, instead of her father vanishing at the moment he did, he now returns to his daughter as if he had not gone anywhere at all, time had obviously passed for Susan.

The apparent difference in age from being a woman in her early forties to being in her early sixties is something that Cecil does not question about his daughter. The two continue on and exit the park together where at such point Susan reverts back to being forty-one. This may have come to Terrence as a vision though Terrence feels as if it were something more. Has this park or forest or whatever it is, has it let Cecil Lynch go? Did it simply allow him to leave?

The place took twice from Mary and caused distress. It took once from Susan and distress was minimal, a return makes it so that it is as if it never happened. An entrance to walk this trail took place May nineteenth, 1997, and as the exit occurs there is a return to May nineteenth, 1997. Now a return for one has come while distress remains with the other. Why is this so?

26.

Given what occurred when he came in contact with fourteen-year-old friends Jeremy and Kenneth, Terrence, for now, decides to keep away from the trail he had been on. He came to be in between trails in the moment spiders had taken him. They are gone thankfully, having left him unhurt and with a vision of a release; thing is now with a sky continuing to darken ... what is it that he should do now?

This place does not deal with time so if darkness were to come complete then it could be possible that Terrence may never see daylight again. Given this possibility, what is it that Terrence should do? Should he change trails? Should he return to either trail he has already come to be on? Or should he stay in between trails and wait it out in the hope that daylight will return his way without much of a delay?

Yeah, despite having been briefly chased by an apparent madman with a chainsaw and then becoming a temporary pit stop for a multitude of small black spiders, Terrence decides that it be best that he stays right where he is. Sure, the spiders had caused no harm, if anything they brought information and that has to be ... a good thing. This is all odd as odd can be. As he more than half expected, darkness does come wholly and completely.

For Terrence darkness has come to the point that if he were to put his own hand out in front of his face, he would not be able to see it. There is no moon in the sky that he can see; if it were out and in anyway full, then it likely would be blocked by the many trees around him. There is nothing he can do now but sit, wait by the nearest tree to him and hope that some kind of light does make a return.

He has his mobile phone with him, and it is powered off in his pocket. It is unlikely he would be able to ring anyone ... a call would highly unlikely connect with someone from the time he belongs to and if a call could connect at all then who knows with whom he'd actually connect with and from what moment in time they may belong to. The phone, however, does have a torch app though Terrence decides to leave it be. No point wasting the battery if there is nowhere with which he could possibly go right now.

He can't help but at least turn it on. No signal comes, so again, no point wasting power. Off it goes, and in darkness ... he waits.

In a place with no time, it is difficult to tell how long he has spent or will spend in darkness. Time doesn't really matter though; Terrence still feels some kind of passage. He is sure however that darkness is only temporary. If it were to be permanent, then what is the point of him being here? Has there ever even been a point?

A light of sorts does come to be, and it is a flickering light at that. Three candles have lit a small area about twenty feet in front of him. Intrigued by this, Terrence stands and carefully begins to move towards this light. He notices that the ground around him becomes flat and steady the closer he comes to these candles, candles that most definitely seem quite familiar.

Something else comes to feel very familiar. The closer he does get to these candles the more he becomes sure that he has just walked right back into his own bedroom. He has definitely come to be back indoors. This can't be right, such a thing happening is not possible, can't be possible. The candles are up upon a stool and from the light it does provide it is clear that Terrence is home. This is just another moment to add to a growing list of the impossible.

He flicks a switch within the room, no power, from the light the candles do provide Terrence can see that the window is boarded up. When he arrived to enter the park, a tail end of a storm was occurring so, is he home on the day from which he came? Or has he come back a day in time to when the storm was at its worst. Yeah, one heck of an impossible list is being assembled.

There has been up to now a lot to be confused about. In this moment, the confusion is as to if he is really home or is there some sort of trickery going on here? There is the possibility that he has lost his mind and is unable to discern reality. If he is really home and if it is the day prior to coming to the town park, then shouldn't there be an alternate version of himself present?

There is no alternate version of himself. From considering the possibilities of an alternate self being near and moving past such a thought, his thoughts can only really turn to Mary. Terrence had come to see an older version of Mary on the bridge within the park and from this it is clear to see that life from after the time he spent with her and up to such a time in her life, life itself had not been kind to her. He has no way of knowing of the years she has endured or will endure, whatever way such a thing could be looked at, or having her own mental health examined and taken care of, such are the effect of all that has come her way.

If this night is the night of the storm as it sounds to be from what Terrence can hear of what may surround him, then Mary is not home and due to the storm, there is no phone signal so again, Terrence has no way to contact her. He has no way of telling her of his experience and he has no way of informing her about her brother Todd.

If Terrence could contact Mary on the night of the storm knowing what he now knows, then what could he possibly tell her? Could he really tell Mary that her brother is alive and well and still seven years old within the confines of the town park? Whatever he could possibly tell is irrelevant due to that inability to contact her.

Irrelevant now too are any thoughts of where things can go from here. Do overs or anything else, Terrence cannot allow himself to decide what might come next other than possibly getting himself some rest. If this moment is fake or real, if the place he is in is fake or real, there appears to be a bed right close to him. He can at least try to rest within it, right? Why not? If he can sleep, then he can deal with whatever can come next when he wakes.
