A Princess is Born

Anakin pushed Gabby in a hover pram while accompanying Kara to meet with the Jedi Council. When Kara told Master Kenobi about how Padme had just given birth to a highly Force sensitive baby, she asked how they should proceed, and the Jedi Council became very interested in this. Padme needed time to rest, so she stayed in the Healer's Wing at the temple while her baby daddy and the baby's aunt took her to meet the council.

Baby Gabby started to cry as she rode in the elevator with her father and aunt.

"Shh. Shh. Don't cry." Anakin soothed.

Anakin looked in the baby bag he was given to look after Gabby and got a bottle, which he was about to feed her, until Kara grabbed.

"Anakin, you have to check it on your wrist first." Kara said.

Kara had experience working in the nursery sometimes, so she knew a thing or two about babies. So, Kara checked it on her own wrist, and then put two drops on Anakin's wrist too.

"That's how milk at the right temperature for a baby feels."

Anakin thanked his sister, then he gently took the crying infant out from her pram so he could feed her. And the moment the bottle entered the baby's mouth, she started to calm down. Anakin looked at Gabby with no other expression but love as she drank from her bottle.

"Someone was a hungry little baby, wasn't she?" Anakin cooed.

Of course, the baby only continued to drink until the bottle was empty. Kara grabbed a cloth for Anakin to have on his shoulder so he could burp the baby.

The baby babbled a bit as Anakin gently patted her on the back until she burped.

"Excuse you," said Anakin.

Anakin wiped a bit of drool from the baby's mouth and she started to grab his fingers, cooing curiously. Anakin couldn't explain why, but holding that little baby just made him feel things he'd never felt before. It was like magic.

Soon, it was time to meet the Council. Anakin slightly tightened the pink blanket around Gabby to make sure she was nice and warm before gently placing her back in the pram, and together he and Kara entered the Council Chambers, the baby crying again.

Anakin and Padme soon arrived in the Council Chambers, Gabby safely cradled in Anakin's arms.

"Brought the princess, you have?" Yoda said.

"Yes, Master Yoda." Kara said, looking into the pram, trying to calm the baby. "Shh. Settle down, Gabby."

But Gabby only continued to cry. Kara took the baby out from the pram and started to rock her, but Gabby didn't stop crying.

"Sorry, she was fine a moment ago." Kara said. "You did make sure she was burped, didn't you, Anakin?"

"Yes."

Kara was also sure she'd just changed the baby's diaper, and she'd woken up from a nap just before they got here.

But then, Kara noticed the baby reaching for Anakin.

"Oh, I think I know what's wrong." Kara said. "Anakin, take her back."

"What?!"

Anakin wasn't sure about this. He was already terrified enough of fatherhood before. Despite his desire to give his kid the father he never had, it was as though fear just suddenly decided to show up out of the blue.

To Anakin's great surprise, Gabby calmed down the moment he held her again.

"Huh. That was easier than I thought."

"It appears the child enjoys your company." Obi-Wan said, getting up to take a look at the baby. "Hello there, little one."

Gabby looked up at Obi-Wan and gripped his finger.

Obi-Wan couldn't help smiling when he looked at the baby's innocent little face.

Once the baby was a little calmer, the Council stood up and gathered to meet the baby, who looked curiously at all of them. Some would've expected her to cry again, but instead, she reached out curiously to the many different species she saw; a lot of aaww's filled the room.

A few Council members took turns holding the baby to get her better acquainted.

"Look at you," said Mace with a smile as the baby gripped his finger, which was not common, according to Anakin. "Aren't you a little bundle of joy?"

Gabby just responded by sucking on his finger.

It surprised Anakin to see Mace actually smile. To him, Master Windu came off as uptight and kinda grumpy, but somehow, Gabby's smile unlocked a side of him Anakin wouldn't have guessed existed. Seeing him tickling the baby and talking in baby talk to her, he struggled to keep from laughing.

The same thing happened each time another master took a turn holding the baby.

Gabby cooed curiously as she felt Master Plo Koon's mask.

"Katooya, Gabby. That means hello." Plo said, smiling behind his mask. "My name is Plo Koon. I am a Kel Dor. You are a human. That is why I look different from some people you have already met."

Gabby smiled at him and gripped his claw in her tiny hand, curious about how different his hands were too.

"How adorable and very curious you are." Plo Koon said.

Master Mundi also took a turn holding the baby. Like with Obi-Wan, the baby seemed to like how scratchy his mustache was. And she grabbed his nose too.

"I like you too." Ki-Adi said, albeit his voice sounding a little funny with the baby holding his nose.

The baby clapped and giggled, making the Cerean chuckle.

And Master Fisto started to play a game with the baby too.

"Where did the princess go?" Kit said playfully, hiding his face with his hands, and popping out. "Peek-a-boo!"

Gabby smiled and giggled at Kit Fisto's act of playfulness. So, he did it again.

This time, the baby started copying Kit. It had to be the most adorable thing the masters had ever seen!

All the masters found themselves unable to hold back from smiling when they looked at the baby's innocent little face, especially when she smiled at them. There was something about her emerald eyes and her beautiful smile that just seemed magical.

Obi-Wan knelt down to Master Yoda with the baby in his arms so the latter could see her up close. Gabby cooed really curiously at the short green Grand Master of the Council.

"Mmm. Yes. Adorable, you are." Yoda chuckled as Gabby felt his hand. "Great things, you are born for, indeed. Trained, she should be."

Except, there was one problem with that.

Gabby, to everyone's knowledge, was the first ever child to be born to a queen of Naboo while she was serving a term. According to Nabuian legend, when this happened, it was said that something amazing would happen, that there would be a connection between worlds beyond the known system, and someday that child would grow up to be a great ruler.

But there was also another matter.

"I did another study of her bloodstream," said Kara. "Months earlier, at the ball, I consulted with several of the royals and dignitaries of Enchantra, and I uncovered something related to a discussion I had with a member of the E.H.C."

According to Kara, she'd learned that Enchanteds studied something similar to midichlorians, except unlike the Jedi, every Enchanted had them. They were called gold blood cells. Rather than the number of cells in an Enchanted's bloodstream, it was primarily by the blood type and concentration of gold blood cells that determined an Enchanted's abilities, though numbers did play a role in it too. With gold blood cells, enchanted doctors and scientists could potentially predict an enchanted's strength, the type of magic they'll be most connected to, and what type of changes they may experience when they get older. Except, most enchanteds didn't show signs of developing those until they were five years old. Gabby was just a newborn.

"Is that bad for her?" Anakin asked, concerned as he looked at his sleeping daughter.

"No. It's not unhealthy for her. This sort of development is rare, but it's not harmful. Queen Amidala got me in touch with a member of the commission, who transferred me to an enchanted pediatrician, who assured me Gabriella will be fine as long as she is raised with care, and that it's important she be with her mother as much as possible."

That was a bit of an issue with how the Jedi code worked. The Council needed to debate on this.

For the time being, Anakin took care of Gabby in his room, where a crib was set up.

Anakin placed the baby down in the crib, only for her to start crying.

"No, no. Shh. Shh." Anakin gently started to wind up a little rainbow unicorn mobile. "Don't cry, Gabby. It's okay. Just go to sleep."

Gabby only continued to cry even as Anakin wrapped her in a swaddle.

"Shh. Please don't cry, Gabby. You're starting to make me cry."

Anakin couldn't stand seeing this poor baby cry. There had to be some way to get her to calm down. Anakin started to think. What would his mother do to get him to stop crying? And then he remembered something that never failed to comfort him.

Anakin:

Come stop your crying

It will be alright

Just take my hand

Hold it tight

I will protect you

From all around you

I will be here

Don't you cry

Gabby's crying started to die down. So when Anakin saw it was working, he continued to sing.

For one so small,

You seem so strong

My arms will hold you,

Keep you safe and warm

This bond between us

Can't be broken

I will be here

Don't you cry

Anakin gently stroked the baby's little head, and she grasped his finger again as she started to yawn.

'Cause you'll be in my heart

Yes, you'll be in my heart

From this day on

Now and forever more

Anakin then picked up a cute butterfly pacifier from the baby bag and placed it into Gabby's mouth as her eyes started to drop in sleep.

You'll be in my heart

No matter what they say

You'll be here in my heart always

Always

Anakin kissed Gabby's head and smiled down at her as he watched her sleep for a bit.

After a while, the Jedi Council decided to make an exception for Gabby. She would live with Padme for a little longer until she got a little bigger, and then they would make arrangements for her to spend time in both worlds. Sometimes, she would be taking lessons as Naboo's new princess, and sometimes she would be learning to be a Jedi.

The Jedi Council discussed this with Padme, but she would only agree to this deal if they would allow for Anakin to be Gabby's primary caretaker when she was at the Temple. She couldn't tell them the main reason why, so Kara told them because Gabby appeared the most calm around Anakin, and since she was shown to have gold blood cells in her veins, she needed to be kept in check so whatever abilities she had wouldn't go all out of whack.

Master Yoda thought about it, and he agreed. However, since the Jedi didn't know much about magic themselves, they were going to need a little help. So, Padme got in touch with Chairman Laverne and asked if she could offer any advice or assistance.

So, for the time being, since Gabby wasn't currently showing signs of magic, the commission sent copies of books that would teach them about different kinds of magical creatures, magical abilities, and what to do if an Enchanted's powers went out of control.

After Padme was rested enough, Gabby was sent back to live with her for the last few months of her last term as queen. But before then, another royal ball was set to be held in celebration of the baby's arrival.

____________________________

Everyone who was anyone from Enchantra and the Republic came bearing gifts for the baby..

Naturally, as Former Senator to Naboo and highest ranking member of the Galactic Senate, Chancellor Palpatine approached first to meet the newborn princess.

"Dearest Queen Amidala," said the chancellor. "Allow me to wish my sincerest congratulations to you on the safe, healthy birth of your daughter."

The chancellor glanced into the bassinet where the baby lay asleep, just starting to wake up, and he asked Padme if he could hold her. So, Padme consented. But when Palpatine held the baby in his arms, she took one look at him and started crying. The chancellor tried rocking her, but she only cried louder and started screaming and kicking, and that was when a big storm cloud started to fill the room, and the Chancellor got hit with a bolt of lightning that pretty much barbecued him, and gave him a very bad hair day.

For a moment, the baby did start giggling and clapping.

"Chancellor, are you alright?!" Padme said, taking her baby.

"I've been struck by worse." Palpatine collapsed.

Padme ordered a pair of handmaidens to get Palpatine to a medical droid.

"I don't think the baby likes the chancellor very much," said a six-year-old Fantasia to her mother, who was expecting her second foal.

Fantasia trotted up and bowed to Padme and the baby.

Gabby immediately started to smile and laugh when she saw the pretty pony nearby. Curious, Fantasia took a couple steps forward, and the baby got more excited and started reaching out for her.

"Oh, do you like the pretty pony, Sweetie?" Padme cooed.

Gabby just cooed and giggled cutely at the pretty pony before her. So, Fantasia got a little closer and carefully familiarized herself with the baby's scent, and Padme helped show Gabby how to pet Fantasia on her muzzle.

"Hi, Princess Gabby." Fantasia smiled. "My name's Fantasia. I'm a princess too, just like you. Except, I'm an alicorn. When you're bigger, maybe I can give you a ride."

Gabby was introduced to the other royal families of Mythiria. She met a fiery redheaded princess named Dracona and her older siblings Char, Arden, and Ginger. Then, she met Princess Memoria and her older sister Esther of Lefintiscia. Then there was Wysteria and the royal family of the frozen kingdom Frianieve, and of course Vivian's family.

Of course, Padme didn't forget to introduce Gabby to other Senators.

Gabby was very curious about Rodian Senator Onaconda Farr, and then she met Bail Organa and his wife Breha. Very much like the Jedi, it was hard to find a senator who could look at the baby princess and not smile instantly, especially when she smiled and shined her beautiful green eyes.

A lot of people, when they held her, tickled the baby, made faces, or played Peek-a-Boo with her. Even without any actual magic showing yet, Gabby showed to be very powerful in a baby's ability to make grownups act silly and lose their minds with happiness just by her mere presence.

Anakin watched from a distance as Gabby got acquainted with more people in one day than most babies did in an entire year. Taking care of a baby was no easy job, this Anakin knew, but he was more than willing to take on the challenge. But until Gabby came back to the Temple, he was going to brush up on parenting and practice taking care of a baby.

____________________________

Anakin agreed to let Kara coach him in proper childcare. To start out, Kara had Anakin carry a sack of potatoes she made sure weighed about the same as a baby.

Anakin may have known basic things like bottle feeding, changing a diaper, and rocking to sleep, but he needed to learn other things like understanding a baby's body language, teaching a baby how to do things, as well as baby-proofing his apartment.

The baby bag provided on Gabby's first visit to the Jedi Temple only held a portion of the things a baby needed.

Babies needed a lot of stuff, Anakin learned. Bottles, diapers, blankets, strollers, pacifiers, teething rings, rattles, wipes, burp cloths, baby shampoo, bath toys, baby powder, baby oil, baby food, bibs, clothes, booties, high chairs, potty seats.... The list goes on.

This was going to take a while.

"I hope the remainder of Padme's term is enough time to learn all this," said Anakin.

"Trust me, Anakin. You'll have a lot more to learn by the time Gabriella moves in." Kara said.

By the time Gabby was about five months old, she was brought back to the Jedi Temple. But by then, she was found to be showing signs of magic. The first thing everyone noticed was everytime Gabby giggled, pretty flowers started growing. At least, sometimes. Sometimes it was flowers, sometimes it was bubbles. But when she cried really loudly, thunderstorms or strong winds happened whether she was indoors or outdoors. And one day, when Anakin was giving her a bath, there was a flash flood in the hallway!

This was going to be harder than Anakin thought.

It became clear that keeping Gabby calm was critical while she was still a baby. And Anakin found some effective ways to do that. Singing her grandmother's lullaby, shaking her favorite pink butterfly rattle, or playing Peek-a-Boo were the most effective so far.

____________________________

As hard as parenting was, Anakin wouldn't miss seeing Gabby grow for the world, especially one day when she was eight months old.

Anakin had been working on an assignment in his room while Gabby was crawling on the floor, babbling as she played with her toys.

Gabby shook her rattle and babbled loudly like she was trying to call her father.

"Not right now, Gabby. Daddy needs to work on his assignment. We'll play together soon, okay?" Anakin said.

Gabby pouted at that response. And then, she saw another toy on Anakin's bed. But it was really high up. So, she grabbed the blanket and started to pull herself up and babble again.

"Gabby, I already told you-"

Anakin froze mid-sentence when he saw Gabby standing!

"Come here, Gabby. Come to Daddy." Anakin said quietly.

Gabby stood on wobbly feet. She took one wobbly step, almost falling down. She thought about stopping, until Anakin encouraged her to keep going. Then, Gabby smiled as she took another step, then another, and another until she walked over and dropped into her father's loving arms.

Anakin happily tossed Gabby up and down, the baby laughing and smiling continuously.

"Yes, Gabby! You did it! You walked!"

Anakin gave the baby a big kiss on her cheek and nuzzled her tiny nose.

Every Jedi Master, as well as Kara and Padme had a similar reaction when Gabby walked to each of them for the very first time.

____________________________

Gabby slowly started to improve at walking, and on her first birthday, Anakin decided to make a special gift just for his baby girl.

Since Gabby loved to hug and cuddle so much, Anakin made Gabby a teddy bear. It was a really well done bear too. It had soft brown fur with two black pearl buttons for eyes, a lovely embroidered smile on its adorable face, and a pink bow tied around its neck.

Gabby loved that teddy bear the moment she saw it, and she never wanted to be anywhere without her teddy.

____________________________

While Gabby was learning to walk and eventually trying to talk, the Jedi and her parents were beginning to notice she was a little advanced for her age.

At age one, Gabby found that she had a gift for escaping things, namely her playpen, her crib, and from her father when she wanted to explore the Temple. And then, they began to notice she was very curious and starting to learn about some of her powers on her own.

Gabby loved experimenting and playing with all her different abilities. Even the Jedi masters found it adorable. But, Gabby did prove to be a handful. They weren't sure if it was a magical power or not, but Gabby seemed to have a gift for disappearing then popping out of nowhere and getting all over the place, like in a cartoon. And she was pretty good at sneaking up on people, that being proven after Anakin read a Winnie the Pooh book, and Gabby started to imitate Tigger by bouncing all around and pouncing whoever she could. She just never seemed to run out of energy or sit still, except when she was sleeping or being told a story.

By the time Gabby was two, she was showing signs of being very smart in magic and being a resourceful child. Her creative mindset made her very good at problem-solving. But... the Jedi also found that she didn't seem to show any use of the Force. She hadn't been able to make anything levitate, Force push, Force pull, or play mind tricks. At least, not the same way the Jedi did for that last one. She did a little something called Puppy Eyes or fluttered her cute little eyelashes. In other words, she killed with cuteness. But the Jedi were a bit concerned. So, they tested her again. Her midichlorian count was the same, and she could sense danger and emotions. Although, they thought that might've been simply because they were finding her magical specialty was emotions.

And as Gabby continued to grow, Anakin discovered that although he already knew she was actually smart for her age, she understood what the grownups were saying better than he would've expected from a toddler. So, he did his best to make it very clear to Gabby that whenever she was around anyone other than him, Padme, or any of their friends from Enchantra, she couldn't call him 'Daddy' because they would get in trouble. And Kara helped him out in that respect.

"Can I still call Auntie Kara my auntie?" Gabby had asked.

"Of course you can, Sweetie." Kara said. "Just like you call the other Auntie and Uncle. But if you're with anyone besides me, your mother, or any of our friends who aren't Jedi, you can't call your daddy 'Daddy'. Do you understand?"

Gabby understood, but at the same time she didn't.

"Look, Baby Girl, I don't like keeping secrets either, but until things change, you're protecting your family and friends by keeping our relationship secret, okay?" said Anakin.

"Yes, Daddy. I mean, Master Skywalker." Gabby said. It felt weird to call her father by his name. But, it was for a good cause, and she just had to grin and bear with it.

For now, it was time for Gabby to go home to her mom, and Kara was taking her.

Before she left though, Gabby got one last hug from Anakin.

"I love you, Daddy." Gabby whispered into Anakin's ear.

"I love you too, Princess." Anakin whispered back, and he gave his daughter a kiss.

And then, Kara took Gabby to go be with her mother.
