Michael is 49, Angela is 44
Michael: I was just about to enter Angela with my fingers when her hand clutched mine.
"Michael." she gulped.
"What's wrong? Did I do something?"
"N- no, I- I think my w- water b- broke."
What?
I pulled my hand out of her pants and stood up. Angela quickly covered her breasts with her arms, blushing deeply.
"This is so embarrassing," she said as I helped her up. More water came running down and stained her sweatpants. "Holy shit, it's really happening."
Suddenly, one of her hands grabbed my shoulder and the other clutched her stomach.
"Contraction?" I asked. She rolled her eyes at me, letting me know that was a stupid question. "Okay, breathe. In and out, Angela... The baby's going to be fine."
"I need to clean up. This is too much-" she cut herself off, her nails digging into my skin.
"Hey, hey... You have to breathe."
With my guidance her breathing steadied.
"I'm okay," Angela groaned, straitening up. "But I really need to clean up. And you need to get me a bag and call Dr. Holden. He's in my contacts, just search my phone."
"I'm not sure leaving you alone is a good idea." I told her as she waddled to the bathroom.
"Michael, I've been through this three times, I know what to do. I'll scream if something happens."
I shook my head, "I'm not leaving you alone like this. Especially since the baby's early."
"Fine, do whatever you want. Just get my phone so we can call my doctor." she rolled her eyes again.
I did as she told. When we entered the bathroom I quickly turned on the shower, and turned away as Angela stripped herself out of her clothes.
She snickered, "Seriously? You were about to fuck me senseless and you can't watch me undress?"
I knew it was her hormones going crazy right now so I ignored her. Angela scoffed, getting into the shower.
As she cleaned herself off, I looked for Dr. Holden in her phone and waited for him to pick up.
"Mrs. Jackson, what a lovely surprise." he said.
"Dr. Holden, it's Michael. Angela's water broke." I told him.
"What? Why? Was she on her feet?"
"No, we, uh... We kinda hit it off..."
I heard him sigh on the other end, "Just get her to the hospital ASAP."
"I will-"
"Michael..." I was cut off by Angela's groans. "Shit. It hurts so much."
A quick glance at my watch told me her contractions were only 5 minutes apart.
"Mr. Jackson? What's going on? Are you there?" Dr. Holden asked.
"Her contractions are 5 minutes apart." I hurried to answer.
The water turned off in the shower and Angela cried out. "Mike, I feel like I need to push."
"No, no, no," the doctor quickly said. "Get her to the hospital now. That baby can't be born naturally, it's too risky."
"Angela, just breathe and don't push," I instructed. "We'll see you there, doctor."
I shoved the phone into my pocket and took a deep breath in. You can do this, Michael.
This is your wife and your baby.
I opened the glass door to the shower, seeing Angela leaning against the wall.
"Let's go, we have to get you to the hospital." I held a hand out for her.
But as she took a step her knees gave in, making me catch her.
"You're okay." I reassured. In a matter of minutes Angela was dried off, dressed, and I also organized a bag for her as fast as I could.
With the bag over my shoulder, I picked her up.
"Javon!" I yelled. "Get a car ready!"
The bodyguard appeared at the bottom of the stairs. He looked confused.
"Didn't you hear me?! Angela's water broke, we have to get her to the hospital now."
Javon blinked a couple times before running to the garage.
I ran down the stairs fast. Angela moaned again.
"Hang in there, we're going to get to the hospital in time." I promised, kissing her forehead.
~
"How much longer?" Angela barked at Javon as she clutched the car seats.
"10 minutes." he declared.
"This baby isn't going to wait 10 minutes, so drive fucking faster!"
My wife panted heavily. "Shit, Mike, I don't think I can hold it anymore..."
"You have to, Dr. Holden said they can't be born naturally. You don't want to risk it, right?" I rubbed her back.
She shook her head.
"Good," I made her lean back against me. "Now breathe with me."
She held onto my thighs and took in a shaky breath.
Her contractions were only 2 minutes apart now. There's no way we're getting to the hospital in time.
"6 minutes, sir." Javon announced.
Angela whimpered.
"Just remember that we're having a baby... How amazing is that?" I whispered in her ear.
That's when flashes suddenly blinded my vision.
I was in the hospital, next to a bed. Angela was on it, she was pregnant, and was way bigger than she is now.
She was tired and full of pain. You could see it on her face.
A cry was heard and the doctor placed a crying baby on Angela's chest.
"Congrats, you have a baby girl." he said.
The baby was so beautiful I couldn't hold it in and started crying.
"Michael," Angela sniffled. "She has curls."
"Michael... Michael, I really need to-"
Angela dug her nails into my skin and let out a low moan.
It took me a minute to come back and realize where I was.
"Angela, don't push. We're a couple minutes away." Javon said sternly.
"I have to, please- Michael, the baby's right there-"
That's when Javon stopped the car and hurried to get off. He ran over, opening the door for us. We both helped Angela stand.
Javon took her in his arms and we ran to the hospital doors.
Luckily, a nurse was waiting there for us, saying Dr. Holden was getting ready for the c-section.
As Angela was placed on a bed and wheeled into the OR, all I could do was watch her as she screamed in pain.
Then the doors opened again and the same nurse ran to me.
"She said she's not having the baby without you." she said.
I followed her quickly, knowing I have to be there for Angela and our baby.
~
Angela: "No! Wait, I need Michael!" I told the nurse.
"Mrs. Jackson, we don't have time for this-"
"I'm not doing this without him."
She sighed, telling the other nurse that she's going to get Michael.
I wiped the tears that spilled out of my eyes and the second nurse kept wheeling me through the halls until we entered a room.
She helped me strip out of my clothes, dressed me in a robe, then put a surgery cap on my head.
"Let's get you into the the OR, Mrs. Jackson." she smiled.
That's when another contraction built up.
"Fuuuck, I really need to push..." I told her, clutching the bed railings until my knuckles turned white. "Where's Michael? I need him..."
A low groan left my lips as I stopped myself from pushing. Why the hell is this baby so eager to come out?!
"Don't push!" the nurse ordered.
"That's what I'm trying to fucking do!" I yelled at her then gritted my teeth. The pain was unbearable. "Why on earth isn't Michael here already?!"
She didn't answer. Instead, she helped me breathe through my pain. "Good, now I have to put an IV in your arm, okay? So just take another deep breath, and..."
I shut my eyes closed. Breathe, Angela.
When I opened my eyes again, Michael was finally there. I let out the breath I was holding.
He was dressed in scrubs and had a matching surgery cap on. I couldn't help but laugh a little.
"I'm here." he whispered, kissing my forehead.
"You're here." I sniffled.
"Alright, let's take you in." the nurse said.
~
Michael stood by my side and smiled through his surgical mask.
"You okay?" he asked.
"Yeah," I answered. "You have no idea how painful that was."
"Thank you for being so strong."
I smiled at him, "Do you see anything? Is the baby out yet?"
"I am not looking at that." he widened his eyes.
That made me chuckle. "Please?"
He took a quick glance above the divider.
"That was very unpleasant." my husband shivered.
"We're almost done, Angela," Dr. Holden told us. "Do you have any names for this baby?"
"Leo." Michael suddenly said.
"Leo?" I looked at him.
He nodded, "If it's a boy. Leo Jared-Michael."
And then a cry was heard.
"Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Jackson!" the doctor exclaimed. "You have a baby boy! Born at 11:03 AM."
"Another boy?" I asked, my eyes watering.
"Leo." Michael grinned.
"Would you like the cut the cord, Mr. Jackson?"
He was hesitant at first until I told him that he has to do it.
Leo was cleaned and wrapped up, then handed to Michael. He held our baby boy close to me.
I laughed happily, "He's so beautiful..."
"He's perfect." Michael kissed my cheek.
As I examined my baby my vision was getting blurry and I felt myself drifting off.
"Mrs. Jackson?" a nurse called vaguely.
"She's losing blood!" I heard before blacking out.
~
Michael: I watched Leo as he slept deeply in his little tub.
Of course, I couldn't help but worry. The minute Angela passed out, they forced me out that OR and told me they would update me if anything happened.
A pediatrician came in to do some tests on Leo. She said my baby boy was perfectly healthy.
The door to the hospital room I was in opened wide and in ran all of the children with Grace who had AJ.
"Daddy where's the baby?!" Paris demanded to know.
"Shhh, he's right here..." I told her, pointing at Leo.
"It's a boy?" Eric asked.
I nodded and played with Leo's tiny fingers. "His name is Leo."
"Wait, dad... Where's mom?"
"She, uh," I choked. "She isn't out of surgery yet, but I'm sure everything's fine."
Angela was a fighter. I knew nothing was going to happen to her.
A knock on the door was heard and Dr. Holden entered. The look on his face was very concerning.
"Mrs. Jackson is stable," he sighed. "But she lost a lot of blood due to the placental abruption she had. She's recovering right now and you can see her, alone, in a couple of hours. I'll make sure to send a nurse if anything changes."
"Thank you, doctor." I shook his hand.
He smiled weakly, "You have a very beautiful baby boy."
I thanked him again. He said his goodbyes to the children and left.
At least Angela's okay.
"So mommy's fine?" Blanket nudged my arm.
"Yeah." I patted his hair.
I closed my eyes, praying nothing would happen to my wife. I can't lose her.
