Opal stood under the hot rain of the shower, her thoughts completely empty as she stood there not daring to move. Small stitches cover her hands while there is only one on her cheek, Finnick had gotten her cleaned up before escorting her to the shower, Opal didn't deserve him and she knew that she had hurt him and the woman would never forgive herself for it. Opal poured shampoo on her head scrubbing herself head to toe, only stopping when the urge to throw up came over her. It was mostly just bile that washed down the drain along with the pretty-smelling bubbles. Finally clean she put her robe on and headed to bed knowing that's where Finnick would be waiting for her, small drops of water followed her from her dripping hair but at that moment Opal couldn't care less all she wanted was to wake up from this nightmare. To her surprise, Finnick was nowhere in sight, the woman's anxiety overcame her as she wondered if he was angry at her.
She slowly climbed under the blankets her body felt like it was on auto-pilot, footsteps on the creaky staircase make her nerves increase for the first time she didn't want to see Finnick, afraid of what she might say. Opal struggled into an upright position pushing her wet hair off her temple. Finnick appeared in the hallway holding a small bundle of wisteria, her favourite flower. She opened her mouth to apologise again but burst into a fit of tears. The man moves to sit on her right side patting the bed which signalled the small dog to jump up, the animal immediately rushed to its owner's side attempting to lick the tears away. She scrunched her face up with a faint smile pushing Pearl away. Finnick moved to the side grabbed a small towel and started to dry her hair while brushing out the knots, Opal had to admit he was doing a terrible job at it but the woman was too tired to make innocent jokes at him. He soon dressed her in warm pyjamas and held her close as she drifted off.
Opal's eyes flutter open, she could tell it was early in the afternoon by the light that made its way through the curtains, there was a mug of some type of tea on her bedside table, it was still warm so she quickly drank it feeling dehydrated after yesterdays performance. She got up and dressed in a simple vest and jeans before beginning to tackle her hair. Opal pauses a the top of the stairs, feeling slightly embarrassed about how she handled the news of the Quarter Quell. Her erratic behaviour, breaking everything and most of all hurting Finnick, she was just glad the Capitol cameras weren't there to capture any of it. As she made her way downstairs she spotted Mags and Finnick sitting on the couch, Opal soon realised that it must have been Mags who made the tea for her as Finnick was hopeless at that sort of thing.
"Morning," she speaks in a strained voice, the pair turn to face her with comforting smiles on both of their faces. Opal plops herself on the same couch as Finnick, finding warmth in his touch, in response the man places his arm around her.
Mags watched the pair, she smiled, the older woman had watched both of them grow up she had taken both of them taking them under her wing when they had no one, to Opal and Finnick she was like a mother. The frail old woman hobbled over to the girl placing her hand softly on her heart, it was Mag's way to show she understood the pain Opal was going through.
The day was hot and slurry, the sun beamed down heavily on them as the population of District four waited to sweat in silence. Peacekeepers surround the area much more than usual which unsettled Opal's nerves more. "Welcome, welcome, as we celebrate the seventy-fifth anniversary and third Quarter Quell," Elizabeth begins it's clear the now pink-haired woman is not eager but the tone of her voice "of The Hunger Games. As always ladies first," She moves over clawing around in the glass bowl and struggled to pick up one of the three pieces of paper, with careful fingers she pried the paper open "The female tribute from District four, Opal West"
Her boots tapped lightly against the floor as she made her way to Elizabeth, it took her back to the time when she was fifteen, the first time she met Finnick and the day her life fell apart. Opal desperately fought back tears the thought of her and Finnick being the last ones left in the arena was unbearable, she would never hurt him again.
"Lovely," Elizabeth faked a smile "And now for the gentlemen," her voice softened knowing there was only one outcome for this situation. Opal prepared herself she knew that Finnick was going to be reaped but the actual thought of it had not yet settled into her head, the woman remembered the words he told her many years ago, do not let the Capitol see your weakness "And the male tribute from District four, Finnick Odair."
The act began, Finnick raised his hand in the air smirking, Opal simply gave the camera a small wave his large hand soon found her waist pulling the woman in for a kiss. Their relationship was no secret in the Capitol, the pair just hoped their situation could gain them a few more sponsors once they got into the area, it would either be their biggest gain or biggest flaw "We will be okay," she whispered into his ear softly.
