Chapter 5- Reminiscence

I convulsed in a jolt as my eyes snapped open and they strained to adjust to the dim room.

I glanced down at the restraints holding me and pulled against them briefly before realizing it was hopeless. That's when I saw him. He had been watching me, even with his gaze hidden beneath the helmet.

I strained to maintain my aloofness as I refrained from breaking eye contact.

"Where am I?" I inquired, my voice harboring a slight tremor.

He chuckled slightly, sending shivers down my spine, before responding. "You're my guest." His voice disguised by his helmet.

"Where are the others?" I asked phlegmatically, ignoring his comment.

"You mean the murderers, traitors, and thieves you call friends?" He growled. I stayed silent as I blinked at him blankly. "You'll be relieved to hear, that I have no idea."

I swallowed my happiness down quickly. At least they were safe. I upheld my prolonged glare at him silently.

"You still want to kill me." It was more of a statement than a question.

"That happens when you're being hunted by a creature in a mask." I asserted harshly, narrowing my eyes slightly.

He stared back at me for a moment, regarding me carefully.

Abruptly he grasped the sides of his mask, the depressurization hissed in protest.

My heart almost stopped. What was he doing? When I had said that... I didn't actually expect him to take it off..

He stood up swiftly as he pulled his helmet off. Revealing not a creature, but an attractive young man with raven black hair and a chiseled jaw.

I had to force myself not to react as he observed my reaction carefully. This time it was his real eyes, and I couldn't help but stare into the brown pools that I was sure concealed a great deal of secrets.

After a couple seconds, I had realized what I was doing and my eyes flicked to the ground. Every time I looked at him I got a strange feeling in my gut... I refused to feel emotion for this man- he was a monster.

He seemed to sense my thoughts as he walked towards me, slamming down his helmet as he went, causing the reverberation to echo throughout the room.

I hadn't noticed I was following his movements until I had leaned forward to turn my head. I hastily turned back to the front, sitting back and staring straight ahead as he came around to stand extremely close to me.

My eyes flickered up at him briefly when I sensed him staring.

"Tell me about the droid." He stated simply as if having his mask off in front of someone was no big deal. I nearly gasped out loud when I heard his voice. It was not as deep as the mask had portrayed, but it was enough to attract anyone's interest.

I took in a quick breath before answering, rattling off the only information I knew about the droid. "He's a BB unit, with a selenium drive and a hyper-scamp indicator-"

"It's carrying a section of a navigational chart and we have the rest, recovered from the archives of the Empire, but we need the last piece and somehow you convinced the droid to show it to you." He paused, his gaze had turned to me now, but I continued to evade his glare. "You... A scavenger." I heard him take a breath as I finally looked at him and he glanced away for a split second before staring at me with something more on his face.

"You know I can take whatever I want?" I felt a chill travel down my spine, and a cold sweat had begun at his utterance.

I sucked in a breath and tensed as he raised his hand in front of my head and I recoiled in pain as he began to probe my mind.

Memories flashed through my cognizance and I felt tears start to leak from my eyes. I attempted to push him out as the pain got worse, but it got to the point where I was gasping for breath.

"You're so lonely. So afraid to leave." He whispered almost sympathetically. He seemed to get closer as he looked deeper. He paused as I tried to catch my breath under his power, more tears continued to leak out. "At night, desperate to sleep." His voice spoke of empathy still as he delved again.

"You imagine an ocean. I see it. " I felt his eyes travel down my face though I couldn't see him through the tears. "I see the island."

I attempted to push him out before he saw anymore of my dreams, but I knew it hadn't worked when he spoke again.

"And Han Solo.." I couldn't stop the slight gasp, the lack if oxygen just made my breath even more labored. "You feel like he's the father you never had." STOP I tried to scream. He got closer to my ear as he muttered, "He would've disappointed you."

"Get out of my head." I growled finally able to produce words. He pulled away roughly, but only briefly.

"I know you've seen the map." He said louder, but I could hear the slight waver in his voice. "It's in there. And now you'll give it to me." I could still hear something in his voice as he attempted to threaten.  Was it fear? No I possibly sensed... Sadness.

Abruptly I felt an agony worse than the first and I scrunched my eyes shut as he tried to find the map.

I gasped for air as my entire body constringed against the restraints and I tried to resist his probe.

I wasn't going to give in. Not to him. I felt fear start to shake my adamant as I sensed something getting in.

"Don't be afraid. I feel it too." He whispered, his face only a couple inches from mine, as if he actually cared.

Anger bubbles in my throat as I struggled to speak, "I'm not giving you- anything."

"We'll see." He muttered and almost looked as if he were going to smirk at me.

The pain protracted to the point where I thought for sure I was going to crack, literally. Then I found it, my weapon against him.

I sensed fear in him. More fear than I had.

I pushed him out of my head and glowered at him, the pain receding slightly. He had reached a wall.

I saw a look of confusion cross his face as he attempted to get in again, but I held firm.

Back and forth it went as frustration started to drip from him. I leaned towards him as I bore down on him.

His hand was wavering now as I shot his power back at him. His fear rose as his control on me shattered and I sucked in a breath.

"You." I crinkled my eyebrows in concentration as I dug at his head. "You're afraid." Certainty could be heard in my voice and I saw him shake his head slightly as if to deny it, but I saw it, a flash of another masked man who had ruled with so much fear.

"That you will never be as strong as Darth Vader." I alleged strongly as I focused on him. Instantly the pain was gone as he released me and stumbled back, obviously jarred.

He gaped at me with labored breath similar to mine.

I couldn't read his expression as he considered me.

Without a warning my eyes split open, to the stone but that i had been staying in.

I was greeted by a tired Luke.

"Did you see it again?" He asked gravely. When I nodded as he stood up from his criss cross position next to me and motioned for me to follow.

I rubbed my eyes violently, noticing that they were damp. I shadowed him, standing up.  What had I been expecting Kylo Ren to do? Go easy on me? Never.

"Nothing better to distract you than activating your lightsaber for the very first time." He conveyed as he padded over to the stone table I had been slaving over since I had acquired my crystal. "I am still somewhat disappointed you haven't shared what your color is with me yet."

I smirked as I almost skipped over to my work of art. "I wanted it to be a surprise of course!"

I had placed the crystal using the force last night, but I had made myself wait to activate it so Luke could be the first to see it.

I held my breath as I caressed the hilt gently and pressed the activation button.

Two beams of light spilled from either side of the hilt. The room was promptly bathed in a blue glow and its low hum permeated throughout.

"Same hue as your grandfather's." Luke whispered and my heart seemed to stop.
