Chapter 4- Doubt
"So how did it go?" Luke asked curiously with inclined eyebrows.
I shrugged, "I almost died, but after my vision saved me it was fine." I stated simply as I flashed the silk pouch as proof, I conveniently left out the part about asking to see my parents (I knew he wouldn't approve).
"Vision saved- What do you mean?" He asked, suspicion laced his voice.
"You had warned me about visions right? Well I had a vision of Kylo Ren, but he seemed real. In my stupidity, I had run him and I fell straight through the ice and was almost impaled, but he saved me." I explained as if it were no big deal. "I pushed him through a wall and that's where I found my Kyber crystal. I was assuming that was where the vision was trying to lead me since he had disappeared when I had found the crystals." I added when I saw Luke's expression.
My face crinkled in confusion as horror washed over his face. "What-"
"We have to leave. Now." He nudged me abruptly towards Chewy and the falcon, but I hopped out of the way and glared at him.
"No. I'm not going anywhere until you tell me what's going on." I growled as I crossed my arms. I honestly didn't know why I was being so stubborn. I was freezing and I would gladly get on the ship, but I had a feeling he wouldn't tell me if I gave in.
"It was no vision..." He muttered as he forcibly grabbed my arm and tugged me onto the ship.
My eyes widened in realization and as the ship's ramp closed I caught a glimpse of a First Order ship landing in the distance.
"Chewy get us out of here!" Luke bellowed as I reached the pilot's seat. Not sure why he's yelling at Chewy when I'm the pilot...
I quickly got us in the air, out of the atmosphere, and into lightspeed before you could say "Porgs are too cute and we don't deserve them".
When I knew we were safe I let Chewy take the controls as I went back to confront Luke. I found him sitting at a table with an ancient hologram game up on it. He wasn't playing it, he just stared at it forlornly as he rubbed his temples.
"Want to tell me what the hell is going on?" I muttered as I sat on the opposite side of the bench.
He sighed and opened his eyes as his gaze met mine and he sighed.
"If you didn't catch on already, it wasn't a vision. Visions can't physically do anything for or to you, unless they're a force ghost, they are there merely to guide you. So that means-"
"Kylo Ren saved my life." I finished in awe and disbelief. "Why would he do such a thing? How did he find me?!" I asked more to myself.
"I don't know. Did he say anything to you while you were in there?" He asked as he stroked his beard in concentration.
"Just that he needed me, whatever that means, to bring me to Snoke. I told him I would never help him, but he knew that already. So why-"
"I sense a plot against us, but I also sense conflict and turmoil within him." He muttered as he sat with his eyes shut.
I sensed it too, but why was he conflicted? It wouldn't have been difficult to just let me die.
POV: Kylo Ren
There was as much curiosity in Supreme Leader Snoke's voice as there was disappointment. "This scavenger- this girl- resisted you?"
"That's all she is yes. A scavenger from that inconsequential Jakku. Completely untrained, but strong with the Force. Stronger than she knows." My mask off, I replied with what seemed to be my usual assurance. No one else would have sensed the difference. Snoke did.
The Supreme Leader's voice was flat. "You have compassion for her."
"No-- never. Compassion? For an enemy of the order?"
"I perceive the problem," Snoke intoned. "It isn't her strength that is making you fail. It's your weakness."
My eyes snapped open and my surroundings slowly filtered back, the memory of my last failure faded to the back of my mind as I marched to room that I was to speak to Supreme Leader Snoke.
When I arrived, he was already there with a disappointed scowl on his face.
I was in for it...
"How could you let her escape? I gave you a simple task Ren. Retrieve the young Jedi before she constructed her lightsaber! You are incapable of doing even that." Snoke scolded before I could even speak.
"Supreme Leader I-"
"No! I don't want anymore of your excuses. New mission, I want her dead or turned in the next few days and unless you can turn the girl, I expect her body to be presented to me in that time." His voice was stern and filled with fury.
"Yes Supreme Leader." I replied obediently as I knew it was pointless to argue.
"I feel the light pulling at you. Don't let it in." He warned gravely. "I don't need to remind you what will happen if you fail."
I felt a shiver go down my spine and real fear threatened to take over, but I pushed it down.
"She was afraid. Not only that, but she longs for vengeance. Revenge for Han Solo. I saw her hatred and fear. She has grown closer to the darkside over the last month, despite her training with the old man." My voice sounded intimidating from the mask, but in reality there might've been a slight tremble without it. "She will turn before the week is out."
"See to it. I expect you to bring her to me. Dead or alive. No more second chances." Supreme Leader Snoke growled with eyes narrowed as the hologram faded abruptly.
I let out a sigh as I turned on my heel and made my way out of the chamber only to be stopped by Hux.
"Careful Ren, don't let your feelings get in the way of the Supreme Leader's orders." I stayed silent as he continued to pick at me. "I see the way you react towards the girl. What is so different about her?" He inquired with an eye brow raised.
"She would be a great addition to the First Order. We need more force wielders in order to crush the rebellion, and she is the strongest." I replied simply and devoid of emotion.
Hux still looked suspicious, but the answer would suffice as he continued down the hall.
Of course that wasn't the only reason she wasn't dead yet. I wouldn't dare say it's compassion, but I would say that it is because she is... different. She intrigued me.
I am drawn to her like I never thought I could be drawn to another human being. My connection to her is strong, too strong. That's how I was able to find her in the caves. Her mind was all too familiar to pick out.
I had to kill her. I knew that if I attempted to turn her, a little bit of me will turn to the light.
She was my pull to the light.
