Chapter 20- The End

POV: Kylo Ren

My eyes shot open as the screeching of the ship's alarm blared in my ears, nearly deafening me.

I was out of bed in seconds and yanked my lightsaber through the air, igniting it immediately.

I instantly noticed that Rey was no where in sight. Panic fluttered in my chest for a second, but it was gone and replaced by fury in a heart beat. I started out of the out of the room, lightsaber blazing.

If Snoke had taken her or even touched her-

Before I was able to finish the thought, she was there.

Her soft face lit with worry as she gently grasped my hands and clicked off the weapon.

She wasn't dressed in her usual dark training outfit. She was in an almost white gown instead. It contrasted with her dark hair and eyes, but complimented her soft tan skin well. It was obviously just what she had slept in.

I felt relief wash over me as I felt myself snatch her up and pull her close, just relishing in the fact that she was right there. Suddenly I realized the situation and released her abruptly, rubbing my neck awkwardly.

Surprisingly she didn't look at all shook by the situation around her. She looked up at him with something he hadn't seen from her in a while. Hope.

"It's Luke." I heard her whisper and I felt a chill travel down my spine. She stepped closer to me, eyes shinning as she grabbed my hand.  "We can leave. We can leave Snoke and you'll never have to answer to him again-" I cut her off by slipping out of her grasp, my posture now rigid.

"What makes you think that's what I want?" I asked with eyes narrowed, my voice coming out harshly.

Her face cracked, she looked at a loss for words as well as completely crestfallen.

Finally she spoke up quietly, I could barely hear her over the alarms. "I thought- I thought maybe you had changed your mind, perhaps you had realized just how horrible Snoke could be especially with what he wants with my child-"

I rolled my eyes and I felt anger bubble up in my chest, ignoring her comment about the child. "Well you thought wrong. I should have known this entire thing was a sham. Here I thought I had saved you." She flinched away from my rising voice. I could tell that each one of my words stung, but it didn't stop me. "I thought I could save you from the true corruption and WEAKNESS that comes from following the light, but it looks like I was wrong. You played me, and I was all too gullible to believe you..." I trailed off, my anger was turning into something strange. A twinge of... sadness? Regret? Betrayal? I couldn't tell for sure. Pushing it away I smirked at her cynically, "Perhaps you have more of the darkside in you then you'd care to admit..."

I saw a tear slip down her cheek, but she quickly wiped it away as she looked up at me stubbornly.

"You're right. It was my mission to earn your trust, but it was never part of the plan to- to feel this... whatever this is. I was supposed to stay indifferent, but I'm not. I- I care about you, and I never could have predicted that. I hated you... with every fiber in my body I loathed you, but then I discovered you were nothing like I had thought you were. I found that you were not a monster, you were just a man who was afraid.

I knew after that moment I would not be able to do what I had come here to do. To kill you... I couldn't even bring myself to hate you anymore. Even after all you have done to innocents, to your family, to Luke... to me... Despite it all, I have chosen to stay. I have chosen to care about what happens to you... I can't imagine leaving without you, leaving you under the tyranny of Snoke. I lo-" She stopped, the o hanging in midair, never reaching the v. Her mouth gaped open in as if it were a silent scream as I saw her stumble forward, a hand on her gut. The blaster shot sound finally hit my ears, as if the world had begun to move in slow motion.

Before I could even process the situation I had rushed forward to catch her as she crumpled to the ground.

Immediately I slammed my hands on the wound to stop the bleeding, not even bothering to glance up to see where the shot had emanated from.

Rey's eyes were starting to roll, unable to focus on anything and her lids were drooping closed.

"No. Please don't do this. Rey, you need to stay awake." I grunted as I pushed on her stomach sharply, hoping the pain would keep her awake. I heard her groan in misery, but she fought to keep her eyes open.

"Drop your weapon and stand with your hands behind your head. " I heard a rebel order followed by the click of a blaster.

I looked up to see that there were only 3 of them, I could feel my rage burning from my eyes as I lifted a bloody hand and grabbed them in a force choke. Their blasters collided with the ground as their bodies levitated off of the ground and strangled gurgling noises germinated from their squirming carcasses.

Just as I was about to snap their necks I felt a soft hand on my face. Her touch seemed to melt my anger as I felt sadness overwhelm me and the men fell in an unconscious heap in front of us.

I looked down at her, grasping her hand to my face desperately. She swiped a single tear away and despite the agony in her eyes, she smiled slightly.

I knew what she wanted. It was almost as if I could hear her thoughts.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.

If there really is a light side of the force, then I am begging you. Please. Save her.

I expected no answer, but I knew it was what she wanted. To have me accept the light. To stop fighting it.

I vowed right then not to accept the light, but to follow her wherever she chooses. If she wanted to succumb to the light then I would help her defeat Snoke. If she had a change of heart and wished to turn against her master like she had pretended to do, then I would follow her then as well.

Why did there have to be sides. Why wasn't there a grey area? To care about others, but not glorify yourself as a hero. To respect your master, but not be blindly obedient to your code.

We were apart of two different sides of the force, but yet we were so obviously drawn to each other. Surely that means that there is more than just the simple light and dark. Our force connection- which transcended all of it and led me to feel whole when I was around her. It all means something. She is more than my soul mate- she is the other half of my soul and I cannot live without her.

"Ben. Ben open your eyes." My eyes flickered open to stare down at Rey, my own name sounding so unfamiliar in my ears. Her words came out so softly that I had to lean in to hear. "I- I care about you. Nothing will change that, but you have to- you have to make your own choice now. This is your decision." She rasped, her jaw was strained as if she were continuously clenching her teeth to fight the pain.

I just smiled at her comfortingly as I pulled her closer to me as I saw the pale robes of Luke Skywalker come into view.

This was it. I had to decide.

Rey's words rang softly in my ears as I forced my head up to face my old master, who was now crouched in front of me.

"Please. Help her." I begged as I heard my lightsaber clink to the ground beside me.

I'll surrender, for her.
