Chapter 11- Blend
I jolted upright with eyes stretched wide and my chest heaving for air. White flooded my sight and the steady beeping of a monitor drew my attention to the wire in my forearm.
"Remain calm. Stay in your bed, you are not well enough to move." I ignored the medical droid's robotic advice.
My heart had started to pound in panic as I yanked the wire out and struggled to get untangled from the sheets, but a hand appeared from nowhere and pushed me back onto the bed.
"Let me go!" I yelled as I pushed their hands off me and glared up at the dark eyes of none other than Kylo Ren. My anger stuttered a bit as he raised his eyebrows in concern.
"Well I guess that means you're okay now." He growled as he held my shoulders still, to prevent me from getting up. "You should still stay put though. You took quite the beating."
I stopped struggling momentarily to gape up at him. I shoved him off me finally and hopped out of the bed, pushing him towards the wall with a scolding finger.
"I took a beating? You cheated! I would've kicked your-"
"But you didn't. There's no such thing as cheating when it comes to battle. You just fight to win." He was coming towards me now, but I backed away in response until I felt the side of bed press into my back, preventing me from going any further.
Still he came closer. "It still wasn't fair..." My voice came out more as a whisper as I strained to keep a distance from him, but I wasn't budging.
He leaned down so his lips were nearly brushing my ear as he spoke, sending shivers down my spine.
"First lesson, nothing is ever fair." His breath tickled against my cheek as I held my breath, waiting for him to snap, but it never came.
He pulled away, his gaze saddened. "I'm not a monster you know."
"I'd beg to differ. You killed your own father, you've massacred innocent people, you nearly killed me-"
"But I didn't. I could've very easily ended your life, but I didn't." His voice was hushed, but frustration threatened to raise it.
"Well how kind of you. I assume you think I should be grateful to you for that?" I stood up straighter as I came closer to him. "Think again." I almost spat as I shoved past him and through the doorway.
I didn't know where I was going of course, but anywhere was better than here.
I felt my limbs freeze as Ren stood between the door and I.
"And where do you think you're going?" He growled with an eyebrow raised.
"Anywhere but here." I stated harshly, grateful that I was still able to speak. "What I don't understand is how you can betray me so quickly. I came to you with no resistance and you chose to kill me still." My words came out sharp through my clenched jaw.
"But I didn't-"
"It doesn't matter if you succeeded or not! It's the thought that counts." My voice was gradually growing louder, soon storm troopers would start to take notice of our argument. Not that I cared. "How do you expect me to trust you, when you are so willing to bend to your master's will?"
"Because that's what he is. My master. I don't have a choice in the matter. He made me what I am. I owe everything to him. I can't just tell him no." He had somehow shifted extremely close to me as he spoke tenderly.
"I betrayed my master to come here... The least you could do is disobey yours and not kill me." I muttered as I tried to ignore his body heat radiating near me.
"Fine! What can I do?" He threw up his hands in exasperation and looked at me expectantly while brushing his hair out of his face absentmindedly.
"What?" I was shocked he was giving in.
"What can I do... to make you forgive me." He conveyed gingerly and his eyes almost begged me.
"For starters you could let me go." I affirmed without hesitation.
Immediately I was released and I stretched my shoulder wearily.
"Do you still want me to train you?" He inquired carefully, afraid I might run if he asks the wrong question.
I looked up at him for a moment, regarding him conscientiously. His sudden vulnerability is somewhat unbelievable.
Maybe I should just run... It would be the smart thing to do.
I pushed away my thoughts and focused on his face for a moment. Could he be telling the truth now? It was hard to say.
He was beginning to look uncomfortable at my peculiar staring session so I just nodded my head.
I saw emotion flash in his face, but before I could decipher what it was, it was gone.
"Very well, if you'll follow me this way to your quarters." His formality had returned and his feelings were guarded even more now.
Strange. I would've expected cockiness or something of the sort out of him.
I quickly followed him down the hall of the ship until we came to the aperture that led to my new room.
"This is where you will be staying from now on. Until I can fully trust that you won't do anything you will regret, I am posting guards outside your door anytime you are not training." He explained as he nodded towards the heavy door. "My room is just down the hall so if you do anything-"
"You don't have to worry about it." I interrupted his warnings with a reassuring smile.
I thought I saw him fight down a slightly amused reaction.
"I recommend changing out of those disgusting scavenger clothes as soon as you can. There are suitable habiliments in the dresser, though you may have to search to find something that fits you. We stock every room full of every size, but you may just be the smallest." He explained, his degrading comments came out more as prodding jokes than actual insults.
"Fair enough. Where should I meet you when I'm done?" I inquired casually, as if we were long time friends.
"Well I'm to assume you haven't eaten yet so, I'll fetch you in around a half hour to show you to the commissary." He explained as he motioned for the troopers who were just arriving to stand post by the doorway.
I just nodded as I used the force to open the door to my room just as I heard him give me another warning.
"Remember, no funny business. Or you will get more than a trip to the med center." By the time I had turned around to respond to him, he was already walking away down the hall.
I shrugged as I made my way into the room, hearing the storm troopers shut the hydraulic metal door behind me.
The room was pretty massive in my opinion. Considering I had only known the inside of an AT-AT and then a hut, it was the most luxurious cabin I had been in.
The first order emblem decorated the wall above the bed and was splattered in black in the middle of the king sized bed upon the scarlet comforter. There were two massive black pillows that were made of the softest material- I couldn't even compare it to anything I had ever known. The bed was held by four bed posts that had an elaborate designs on each of them.
The prodigious room itself was pretty much bare, with dark wood flooring to complete it, apart from the bed and the nebulous dresser. It was also very dim, even with the overhead light on, I had a difficult time searching through the many pieces of clothes.
Unsurprisingly, all the clothing choices were black and there was nothing abnormally fancy either. The only ones I found in my size was sooty colored wrappings that I was able to cover my torso with and tight obfuscous stockings for my bottoms. Luckily there was a ceremonious looking covering that I could put over the promiscuous outfit that made me look as if I had some amount of decency.
Thankfully, finding boots that fit was not nearly as hard and they went up to my knees. Also, I found some nice sleeves I could pull up past my elbows which reminded me of my outfit from home. It was comforting to say the least.
Overall, it had taken me 3 quarters of an hour to find all of it and I felt partially drained as a result.
It didn't take long for Ren to figure out I was finished. He didn't even bother to knock before marching in stoically.
When he finally saw me, I felt his interest peek as he motioned for me to follow him to commissary.
