"Aiden!" My fathers voice called out through the long hallway.
"I can hear you y'a know! We are supernatural after all." I complained as I walked towards the living room.
"Doesn't seem that way." He huffed.
"What is it?" I asked, leaning against the kitchen counter.
"Your supposed to be out, learning how to be an alpha. Going to meetings, training, talking to your subjects. Not just- disappearing to where ever you go." He complained, as he sat on the couch.
I'm the almighty son of the alpha. Alpha Knox that is. I'm supposed to take over when I turn 18.
But-
Why would I want to?
I rather run around and hang out with my friends then be in a stuffy building with old guys, talking about boring ass stuff.
As I had gotten older, my dad had put more and more pressure on me. Honestly sometimes I think he'll never hand me over his title. But it's not like I'm complaining.
Who cares about alphas anyways!?
"I don't understand why yo-"
"You know what I'm thinking?" I interrupted.
"What?" He asked curiously, looking me in the eye. Leaning forward with his hands together.
"I'm hungry. Why don't you make some food? I think better with food." I smirked.
He huffed, standing up.
"Yeah right. You'll just run off again."
"But isn't it fun? You get to chase me and stay fit. Old man." I jokingly nudged him.
He just shook his head. Even though he's supposed to make dad jokes, I'm the definitely the funny one.
"Hey, Lenny." I said as she walked into the kitchen.
"Good morning, Aiden." Lenny said sweetly.
She's my aunt.
"Eh, afternoon." My dad added, as he grabbed some eggs and sausage from the fridge.
He might be annoying and overbearing sometimes, but at least he can cook.
Don't ladies love a man that can cook? I laughed to myself.
Leaning over the counter I looked over at Lenny.
"Hey, do you think you could make something? Like a pie or cake. Cookies? Anything. I'd really looove it." I said nicely, kind of begging.
"Mmm. Maybe." She said.
"Oh, come on. You love baking! Pleeaassee?" I begged.
How could you not love a good ole, warm baked good!?
"Alright. I'll think about it." She sighed.
"Thank you."
My dad rolled his eyes.
"Something wrong?" I asked to bug him.
"Your not running off today, your going to get some training in. And no amount of charm can get you out of it." He said sternly.
"Ughhh." I groaned, resting my head on the counter.
———
"Come on!" My dad yelled, annoyed at me as I lazily followed behind him.
Groaning as I pulled myself forward, dreading what I'd have to do today.
We went into a building, it was so cold and empty. Chilling me down to the bone.
Then going into a meeting room, with a big wooden table, surrounded by boring old guys.
Why do we even have business meetings? We're wolves! It's weird.
Boredom hit like a truck as I sat in one of the leather chairs, completely zoned out from the conversation.
The guys going on and on about random stuff.
Until I heard something that caught my attention.
"This rival pack is impending on us. Becoming a threat."
"They're rogues!"
"We need to find out more about them and quickly." One said in a panicked tone.
Rival pack? Threat? Hmm.
"We haven't had any issues with rouges in years. Not since-" One of them then suddenly stopped as Alpha Knox glared at him. Gulping under his presence.
What are they talking about? What issues?
Why am I never told the interesting things!?
"We'll take care of it. Like we always do." Knox said confidently.
Whenever he spoke, everyone stood quiet.
Honestly it's kinda weird. One person having all the power? Something about it always felt- uncomfortable to me.
Yet I'm supposed to become the new alpha.
"Killian, Eros. You two take a small team. Find out more about this pack. Give me names, information. Soon." Knox said firmly, holding his hands together.
"You got it." Killian nodded.
He's basically my uncle, I guess. Him and Eros are brothers and have been friends with my dad for a long time.
But these two aren't your regular wolves, they're hellhounds.
Born from hell, basically sons of the devil. As I understand it.
Stronger, faster, smarter. And the only hellhounds that stay on earth. For some reason, not quite sure why.
But they're actually pretty chill. Haha- chill. Get it? Ahem, anyways.
They have always been very protective of me and my family. I've only heard bits and pieces of stories, but I know that Killian and my mom get along well.
And for some reason I've always had this mysterious feeling, like the whole pack is hiding something from me.
I barely know anything about the pack. I've only heard murmurs from others, about something happening before I was born.
I've always been curious as to what it was. But no one dared to tell me.
The meeting ended and everyone left. I gladly sprang up to get away, until my dad grabbed my shoulder.
"Uh, Uh. Come here. Your not leaving yet." He said annoyed.
"Ughhh. Now what?" I complained, being dragged somewhere else.
———
"Why are we here?" I asked as we stepped into the gym.
"Well I figured if you wanted to do something more interesting, this would be the place." He smirked.
Staring over at him. "Great."
"Here. Put these on. Then we'll see who's fitter." He said, tossing me some boxing gloves.
Welp. I got myself stuck here now. At least it's a change of scenery.
A loud thud sounded through the gym as his gloves hit mine.
"Who's out of shape now?" He chuckled.
"Yeah, yeah. We know boxing isn't my forte."
"You still need the practice. And I'm easier on you then someone like Killian would be." Knox said, walking around the ring.
"Eh, not really." I shrugged.
"Oh, so I'm meaner than him? Scarier?" He smirked, holding up his gloves.
"Nah. Your just an ass. Everyone knows it."
His eyes squinted, moving forward, ready to throw another punch.
Oh fuck.
Quickly dodging it, throwing myself into the ropes. Why do I always get caught in these bad positions!?
———
After dodging some punches and running around the ring, I finally got a break.
Someone came up to talk to him, so I took my chance. Sneaking out of the building.
Running off into the woods for a break. Just- getting away for awhile.
It's something I had always done, but it became more common as I had gotten older. Stressing about being the new alpha, what the future holds, meeting my mate, all of that. Those thoughts constantly ran through my mind.
So I tried to outrun it. Stupid, yeah, but it made me feel better.
I mean, it's good exercise, so why not? No harm done.
I knew the trails well and would take different ones depending on the day. Sometimes I'd even be gone for hours, just to have the time alone.
And a lot of the time I didn't even shift. I just ran on my feet like any other human would.
Just to escape it all.
While I made my way through the woods as usual, my eyes caught a glimpse of some sort of movement.
Pausing in place, my eyes looked through the woods, catching sight of a fawn.
Well, technically a deer. A single deer all by itself. About two feet tall but still had white spots.
For some reason I felt connected to it.
The deer had grown older, capable of taking care of its self. But it still had its spots, a reminder of its childhood innocence.
My eyes watched as it raised its head. Facing me.
It's big brown doe eyes staring into mine. Then frolicking off.
Sometimes I just want to run off into the woods; and never stop.
Explore the world, not just be another alpha, to another pack.
To be someone special. To someone special.
Continuing on my path, weaving through trees and bushes. Finding new spots I've never seen before.
Then the woods suddenly opened up to a clearing.
Tall grasses surrounded a pond, weeping willow trees swaying in a gentle breeze. A few ducks swam in the water, diving down for fish.
How haven't I found this place yet?
It's beautiful.
Closing my eyes as I breathed in the calmness.
Finding a place to sit down on the grass, fiddling with some small wild flowers. Some call them weeds, but I think their beautiful.
This would be a great place for a picnic. I should've brought some food with me.
But eh, I wanted to get out of there.
I can always come bac-
A sudden noise caught my attention, a twig breaking.
What should have been a normal sound in nature, sounded different. Like a footstep.
This wasn't a normal animal.
My senses were heightened, studying the tree line, across the pond from where I was.
A figure slowly emerged from the dark trees, another wolf.
Headed down towards the pond, then stopping, hair stood up on their rigid back. As their eyes connected with mine.
My breathing seemed to stop, even from across the pond I could sense something about them.
Our eyes were locked.
The wolf went to take a step back, but instead continued to the pond. Glancing away to take a drink, then shooting their gaze back up at me.
Who is that? What are they doing? Just- if it was a wolf from another pack-
Another pack?
Why aren't they running away? They should be.
The wolf raised its head from the water, our eyes still connected. Then they just turned and walked back into the woods.
Their fur blurring into the dark woods.
What was that?
Time had stood still, then suddenly I was back to normal. The sounds and smells of nature came back, same as before.
Where did I go?
Why had everything faded away? Only for a moment. Or- maybe more?
Standing up, I looked again at the trees. Empty.
Whoever was there, was gone. Almost as if they had just disappeared.
Something about that wolf lured me in. Something about that wolf was different.
It gave me a strange feeling.
