Secrets Out

"I love scotch. Scotchy scotch scotch. Here it goes down, down into my belly" (y/n) sang the famous words as he drank his scotch.

"Should you be drinking in the middle of the day?" Eliana sat on her brothers desk while he was sitting on his bed.

"It's Shabbat. It's not like I do this every day. Besides I already had wine with lunch" the boy shook his head as he took another sip. "You want some?"

"No. I'm to important to start recreational drinking at this young age. I could cure cancer in a few years, but maybe if I start drinking I won't. Like you!" The girl smiled as if she hadn't just insulted her brother.

"First off you aren't going to do shit with your life" (y/n) shook his head as his sister frowned. "Second you also had wine at lunch. You had the option for grape juice and you chose wine" he glared at his sister. "And third. I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my room smells of rich mahogany" he motioned to the bookshelf.

Eliana glanced at the bookshelf. "The book thing may be true but I don't smell any mahogany. Rich or otherwise"

(Y/n) shrugged. "Well how would I know? I can't smell shit with my allergies" he took another small sip of his scotch. "I'm going downstairs" he spoke as he finished the glass. "Need to put this cup away"

"Okay" the girl stood up and followed her brother out of the room.

"Are you just going to follow me everywhere today?" (Y/n) asked with a sigh. She had followed him into his room and now this.

"Would you rather I stay in your room unsupervised?" Eliana asked with a smirk. She knew she was right. The two walked down the stairs in silence after that.

Once (y/n) and Eliana entered the kitchen they tried and failed to ignore the conversation Miriam was in with their parents in the dining room. "Why am I in trouble then!?" Miriam yelled angrily as (y/n) put his cup in the sink.

"Because you're the one who did it" their father replied sternly.

"(Y/n) breaks rules too!" Miriam replied causing Elaina and (y/n) to quickly turn to one another before turning to the entrance to the dining room.

"(Y/n) didn't bribe his English teacher into giving him a good grade" their mother spoke as she crossed her arms. (Y/n) actually did do that when he was in Miriam's grade but he wasn't about to admit that.

"Well (y/n)-" the girl was quickly cut off as (y/n) ran up to the girl and covered her mouth with his hand.

"Shut up" (y/n) growled as their parents gave him suspicious looks. (Y/n) didn't know if his sister was about to tell them about Kamala or that he was the one who had suggested she bribe the teacher but either way he wanted her quiet.

Miriam licked the boys hand causing him to pull his hand back in disgust. "(Y/n) is dating a Muslim girl!" The parents quickly turned to look at the boy wide eyed as he glared at his sister. Eliana gasped from the kitchen. "There. Now I look like a saint" she quickly stood up before running out of the room.

"I'm going to kill that little hussy!" (y/n) hissed before running out of the room after his sister before his parents could say anything. "Get back here!"

"You needed to tell them eventually anyways!" Miriam yelled as she ran up the stairs. "I just sped up the process!"

"I was waiting for the right moment! Like at their funerals!" (Y/n) ran up the stairs as he started gaining on his sister. He could just barely hear their parents speaking in the dining room about what they had just found out.

Once he reached the top of the stairs (y/n) turned only to see the door to Miriam's room slam shut and lock. "I'm sorry alright?!"

"Sorry isn't good enough you little witch!" (Y/n) slammed his fist against the door as he sighed. He knew the secret would one day not be a secret but he never expected it to be so soon. He had hoped that by the day they told their parents he'd have an apartment of his own. Maybe he could move in with uncle Marc.

"What's the worst that can come from this?" Miriam asked naively. She didn't understand, she was just a kid, how could she possibly understand? "So they yell at you a bit. So what?"

(Y/n) didn't reply. That was because he had stopped listening to his sister and walked back to his room. He closed the door and quickly locked it.

A couple minutes later there was a knock on the door followed by the voice of (y/n)'s mother. She did not sound happy. (Y/n) stayed silent, trying to make her think that perhaps he had left. Through the window. The window was open so if they went outside they'd see that.

After about ten minutes the banging on his door stopped and the boy was left in silence. "This could not be worse" the boy whispered with a sigh.

(Y/n) bent down and pulled his suitcase from underneath his bed. After Shabbat he'd get out of here. At least for a few days, after that maybe he'd come back and try to explain things.

The boy began packing his bag with clothes. He didn't touch anything he wasn't supposed to touch on Shabbat, he'd save that for afterwards.

He thought over his options. He couldn't stay at Kamala's because of her parents. All his friends were out on rich people vacations. Nakia was a maybe? Probably not if her parents were super religious. Uncle Marc was probably his best option but he didn't want to stay in the city.

(Y/n) sighed. He could probably just stay here and try talking to his parents. However the boy was so focused on the possible negative outcomes that he couldn't imagine any more positive ones. As far as (y/n) was concerned this could only end badly.

Word Count: 1117

(We're approaching the end of this book. One day I may make a sequel but for now I have no such plans. I want this book to go out on top. There's been nothing but positive feedback for this book and I really appreciate that. I know this is a pretty short book but I think with the way I chose to write it that is for the best)
