A friend

It was saturday morning, many students were found chilling with their friends as they had no classes today. But unlike them Mel and Levi were both sitting in the library, scribbling furiously on the piece of parchment, determined to finish their homework as early as possible.

They had decided that they would finish their studies and then have fun watching other students run here and there trying to do their homework tomorrow.

Mel and Levi were both exceptional students. So it was not surprising to find that they had finished their work by late noon.

"Damn! That was tiresome", Levi exclaimed as he stretched his body trying to get rid of his stiff muscles.

"Fancy going to the black lake?", Melisende asked.

Levi grinned. They both gathered their stuff, dropped it in their dorms and set off towards Black lake. They both sat by a tree, silently watching their fellow students shoving each other in water.

Finally relaxed, Mel's mind drifted towards James' apology. It's been a week since that detention but yet she couldn't understand his intention. He had stopped bothering her, which came as a shock to both Levi as well as the Marauders'.

After all this years, Melisende still found it difficult to believe that James had been harsh towards her just because she was a Slytherin. She knew that there was more to it and her suspicions were proved that day. But what?

A third person would think that she was over reacting, that it wasn't much of a deal!

People often realise someone's importance when the said person is no longer with them. Melisende was young, but she wasn't naive.

Her parents had abused her from a young age, just because her views were different. They feared she could go wrong. Melisende was too innocent for her age, so when her parents told her that the non magic people were just filthy pieces of scum and that they deserved to die, she voiced back her thoughts.

She had been in endless fights with her father, refusing to accept their idealogies, which always ended up with her in pain. She wondered why her parents were not like those she saw around in the park. She wondered why they didn't take her out, why they wouldn't plan a picnic in their huge backyard, why the wouldn't let her play with other childrens, why they wouldn't plan a surprise party on her birthday?

Mel never agreed to them. Soon her father started physically torturing her, using various curses on her and then leaving her alone in her own pool of blood. Maybe that's why she fears blood, yes she could stand it but it always brought back memories she wished to forget.

As she grew up, she realised that her parents were different. She realised that their souls were pure black and she could do nothing to change it.

That's when she found James. She needed someone to love her, she needed someone to believe her, someone who knows her inside out, someone who gave her a shoulder to cry on, someone with whom she could share everything.

And unsurprisingly that person was James. Though they both were young, they had developed a bond not even years of friendship could built. Elders called it love, but the word LOVE held a very bigger meaning which their small minds couldn't grasp.

And when the only person she loved broke her, it was an understatement to say that she was devasted.

Suddenly Mel felt herself being turned around. She found Levi's eyes boring into her's. She could see the concern they held for her and suddenly she felt better. She wasn't alone. She had Levi.

"I know something happened in that detention, i tried giving you space but all you do is space out", he whispered gently.

She felt bad that she wasn't giving him her attention. So she took in a deep breathe and told him everything.

He remained silent for a few moments.

"You have me Melisende, i will be always there for you", he said as he grabbed her hands into his.

Mel felt glad that he had not made any comments on the incident. He knew that the topic was close to her heart. And rather than making her upset by talking about it, he just reminded her that she had him. He reminded her that he wasn't going to break his promise like James did, and she could always count on him.

Mel smiled. "I know Levi, i know", she said as she hugged him tightly.

Levi glad that he made her smile wrapped his arms around her, burying his head in her hair.

They stayed in each other's embrace and then pulled away. Melisende rested her head on his shoulder, as he wrapped his arm around her.

They both watched the sunset, feeling comfortable in the silence that followed.

Little did they knew James Potter was watching them from a few yards, where he was sitting with his fellow Marauders'.

He had came with the intention to relax, but it seemed like he was fully wrong.

Watching his love in another man's arms was much more painful than being repeatedly stabbed by a sharp knife. He cursed his fate for putting him in such a situation. He cursed himself for being an idiot, because there was nothing he could do rather than curse.

He stood up suddenly not able to keep his emotions in check, turned around and walked back towards the castle, leaving his mates who were busy in an argument bewildered.
