15. | Crash
"Nice to see you, Beautiful." He smiled back at me.
His dark eyes pinned harder at the sight of his concentration. The small smirk he held upon his lips grew wider by the second.
I feared for my life now.
The intense look he had in his eyes of temptation towards me; drew me to take another step back.
"Don't even think about it." Jack stepped in front of me; staring up at Colt as he reached a hand closer to me.
Colt looked up, smiling towards himself with the thought of the warning Jack gave him.
"Why.. That's awfully rude of you." He said with a tone of offense in his words.
Andrew's eyes looked back at me.
"Say, do you mind if we have a word?" He asked looking back at me again.
I became even more frightened with what he said. The people around us didn't seem to care much. If I was in their position, I wouldn't either. Colt didn't seem so threatening. He was all dressed up, a good guy look in his face as he spoke. But don't let your guard down, this guy is the devil in disguise. He's smart about it too; which made things even more worse.
"Not another step closer." Jack stepped forward, urging his call of threat.
"Well that's no way to treat an old friend." He grinned.
Old friend?
"What do you want, Colt?" Jack stood up straight, flexing the muscles on his neck before tensing his jaw.
"Oh, don't you play dumb with me, G. You know exactly what I want.." Colt stepped closer. My heart beat heightened as I felt like he was about to bash his fist into Jack's. I stood corrected though as the next moment I saw him part his lips. An evil smile grew as his gaze then fell right back down to me.
"You.."
I felt my stomach plummet to the ground from the worry that began to eat me alive. Was he planning on taking me? Was he going to kill me? Would I ever get to see my mom or Mandy, or my friends and James.. Or even Jack?
I felt an arm urge me further back behind Jack. My eyes followed the limb to meet with the body of Jack's. He stood in front of me, sorta like a protective shield.
"Good luck trying." Jack grinned.
My cautiousness heightened as an evil smile was displayed over Colt's features; his body stepping closer to Jack's. I had no control over my actions as my arm swung over to grip Jack's. He noticed my actions, but reacted as if he didn't. All his attention was on the male in front of him approaching the side of his face with his own.
"...Do you really think I'm here alone?" He whispered over Jack's shoulder, flashing me a small smile as he noticed me from the other side with a wink.
He drifted apart.
Goosebumps quickly arose their way down my body.
Jack in the other hand became quickly pissed. His jaw was tense, fist balled up at his sides.
I grew even more scared. Not only for myself, but for Jack, and Colt, and everyone in here.. The two together are a combination of oil and water.. They don't mix.
"You have three minutes, brother." Colt smiled, satisfied with the reaction he was drawing from us. "Hand her over and no one gets hurt.. Or, I bring out my guys and we take her.. Everyone gets hurt.."
My breath hitched, immediately turning over to look over to Jack and wait for him to respond.
"I have you surrounded, G." He raised his hands to his sides. "Don't try to pull one of your little tricks.."
Not releasing Jack's arm, I glanced around the crowd. A few faces turned to look over at us. They were dressed as everyone else at the exhibit. It would be hard to point out every single person working for Colt.
Shit.
"Three minutes." Colt smiled, holding up three fingers before he lost himself in the crowd again.
I didn't waste a second.
Moving from behind him I jolted up in front of him the next moment I had.
"You knew this was going to happen?" I asked.
"Part of why I was trying to get you out of here in the first place." He retorted.
"Okay, what the Hell is going on here?" James jumped in. "Elizabeth, I'm taking you home right now." He gripped my hand.
"Hold it!" Jack stopped us; gripping my other hand.
James and I looked back at him as he got closer to us.
"Unless you want Liz or other people in this room killed, I suggest you follow my rules." He pinned his eyes back at James.
"You heard the dude; three minutes or he's taking Liz.. Regardless." James retorted.
"He also mentioned the fact that he has us surrounded." Jack snapped. "One wrong move and they start shooting."
"Fuck.." James clasped his hands over his face.
"We have less than three minutes to get out of here so there's no time to waste.." Jack instructed.
I gasped. "Wait, you have a plan?"
"I always have a plan." He looked back at me.
James and I watched as Jack pulled out a silver can from one the pockets inside his tux. He looked back up at us with a leading look on his face. As crazy as it sounded right now, I did trust him. I had no other choice. But that doesn't excuse him for what he did..
"Stay close to me." He lead us on, nodding his head before looking back down at the object and snapping the lever off.
Smoke started igniting from the can. Jack covered his mouth with his arm and alarmed us on doing the same thing too.
The can was dropped to the ground and already it was becoming foggy. People started coughing, others screaming. I was lost in the chaos before I felt a hand take hold of mine. My eyes trailed up to see it was no one other than Jack. He nodded his head. Looking over my shoulder I took hold of James' hand and together we followed behind Jack's lead through the crowd.
It was hard to see what was ahead of us.
People were bumping, running, and screaming all around us. I heard a few sounds of glass smashing on the ground, other people yelling for help.
My heart was beating out of my chest right now. The sounds, the smell, it was all terrifying. Colt was not going to be happy with this.
"FUCK!" I loud shout was heard making us come to a halt.
It was Colt.
"We have to hurry." Jack kept urging us.
We took a step forward but immediately had to drop to the ground as a gunfire was heard.
It was loud. My heart jumped every time one sounded after that, and that was a lot.
More and more shots sounded. I wanted nothing more than to just get out of here. I was scared out of my life.
In all my moment of panic, I soon started realizing the fog start to clear. We were getting further away from the smoke pit.
Jack made us take a turn against a wall. There were people rushing out of the room we just exited, coughing and screaming. Panic arose in the room. The shots didn't stop.
"We have to keep moving." Jack signaled us back.
James and I didn't hesitate. Before we started walking again, we were forced yet again to another halt as anther guy, stood in front of us; a gun pointing right at Jack.
I didn't see any of the action happening in front of us, all I know is that Jack immediately had his hand right down his tux again to receive yet another weapon.
"I GOT THEM!" The guy shouted in front of us.
I panicked; but before I could let it sink in, a shot was fired and the man was down.
My eyes widened and I continued to feel my body weaken. Jack shot somebody.
Jack turned his head and I noticed the weapon tight in the grip of his two hands. He signaled us back with is head to keep moving. James and I looked back at each other with the same expression written on our face. Sadly enough, we had no other choice.
Moving back up, we followed behind Jack. I made sense of the guy yelling in pain from the shot that was fired at his shoulder. He didn't kill the man, but left him severely injured. Jack was not one to mess him.
I would duck my head every time I heard a gun shot. The feeling was scarier than they show in the movies. The real gun shots are crazy loud; it felt like my ears would pop every time.
There were twist and turns made throughout the museum. We were on the second floor and had crossed path by path, between hallways, and even in between some exhibits. All throughout our run, four people had jumped to us; people that work for Colt and that had their guns pointed at us. Other people too in which they were planning on taking hostage. Jack didn't let any of it happen though. He shot ever single one of those guys in places that won't kill them; but leave them gradually hurt. Their shoulders, a leg.. All with just one move. I was completely terrified right now.
I had to give Jack some credit, though. There were two other people with him; a whole crowd aiming to shoot all three of us. Jack however managed to not let that happen. On top of that, he helped some innocent victims too.
It was all too crazy.
In the end, after bumping and shoving continuously against other panicking people, it was safe to say that we were finally going to make it out.
"What are you guys doing?" Jack called back as James and I hurried towards the stairs that would lead us down to the lobby and exit of the building.
"We're getting out of here?" James pointed out the obvious.
"Not through the front your not?" He responded. "That place must be crowded with police by now and then there's the traffic of the people outside. We need to get out of here, and fast."
"Then where do you suggest we go?" James asked.
J a c k
"Then where do you suggest we go?"
I tried to think of something because right now I had nothing. Obviously the back would be the place to go but this place was huge and I didn't take time to study the blueprints of the building.
Guess I'll just have to elaborate with what I have.
Before I could start leading us again, I made a remarkable notice on a specific person.. Liz..
She was shaken up by everything, and I don't blame her. Colt just threatened her and made her go into a shooting chase around a museum. And on top of that; I shot five people right in front of her. None to which were killed of course; I got enough on my plate and murder will not be one of them.
I couldn't stand looking at her like this; nor was I going to let myself just not do anything. She deserves more than that.
I simply moved toward Elizabeth. Keeping my weapon down to my side, for I feared it'll make her not trust me. I rested my other hand gently over her shoulder. She was still shaken up, but even through that she managed to pull off a stern face. Something I was definitely not expecting.
"It's going to be okay." I assured. "I've got you know." I cooed to her in a slight whisper but she continued to glare forward, unaffected by my words.
The color drained from her face. Perplexed, I followed to meet her gaze, only to see the muzzle of a gun fixed directly on me. My jaw stiffened and although caused my instincts, ushered Elizabeth right behind my tall frame.
I pulled out my gun once more in front of me with both hands. Not even thinking about it, I aimed for his shoulder but stood frozen as nothing fired.
"Shit." I mumbled as I pulled the weapon right back down, finding it worthless as I ran out off ammunition.
My breathing was heavy as I stood helplessly.
"I got you now, Bastard." The guy laughed.
The man moved the slide back to load the cartridges of his weapon. There was no way out of this now..
I glued my eyes shut as I heard the shot fire.
My heart began to beat out of my chest in acceleration, hoping the adrenaline was enough to not feel the pain.
Only I wasn't hit, nor did I feel like a bullet had gone through my chest.
I shot open my eyes to see the man collapsed on the floor and Ivy standing behind him, grasping onto her own weapon. A stern look remained on her face. Thank fuck for that.
Her eyes shifted back up to me, noticing Elizabeth who was also behind me. At first I was glad to see Ivy show up, but at the same time I remember what she was here for and how I know she made Elizabeth feel. How we made her feel. Perhaps it was best to get shot.
"I thought I told you to leave?" I recollected myself, deciding to take my anger out on her instead.
"No.. You told me my work here was done." She retorted. "Obviously it wasn't." She referred to the unconscious body around us.
Now this guy is one for sure.
"Well thanks for that." I came to my conscious. "But now you seriously have to go."
I turned back to look at Elizabeth.
I couldn't read the way she was feeling from her facial expression. It was a dirty mix of jealousy and terrified.
"We have to keep moving." I reassured her.
Turning over to my left, I noticed her still shaken up friend standing aside. He was closest to the stairs and before the whole showdown, that's where he stayed.
"Your trip ends here." I called back to him.
"What?" He didn't understand what I was saying. "No, I'm not leaving Elizabeth."
"Look, having you around is only going to slow us down. You want to keep Elizabeth safe..? Then stay away from her; at least for tonight." I looked back at Elizabeth. "Colt doesn't know that he's your friend. If something like this ever happens again and I've run out of options, he's the only one that can keep you safe. You can hide out with him.." I explained looking back at the guy. "I assume you guys are close.."
The guy couldn't take his worrying eyes off from Elizabeth.
"I just.. I want to help..?" He spoke.
Ugh. People and helping!
"What about Mandy?" A soft, shaking voice which belonged to Elizabeth asked quick after that.
Ah.. An idea!
Pointing back at the guy, I continued to speak.
"You want to help?" I asked. "Keep an eye out for her sister. Colt still doesn't know where she lives or who her family is; but don't doubt him ever finding out; especially after tonight. Protect the sister and speak of nothing about what just happened." I looked over to Elizabeth. "The less who know; the safer you are."
I looked back at her friend to see him contemplating what I just said. His time was short though, and he knew that. Nodding his head, another voice jumped in.
"What about me?" Ivy asked.
I turned around and noticed her still waiting.
"Go with the guy." I ordered then looked back at him. "He doesn't look too good to be driving out there by himself."
Nodding her head, Ivy stepped over the dead body to which she shot. The long slit opening on the side of her dress opened wider as her legs did so. She walked over to me and handed me her gun.
Leaning up closer to me ear, she whispered Good Luck in an almost seductive way before pulling away and walking again.
I could literally feel the tension growing in Elizabeth.
Ignoring Ivy, I looked back at Elizabeth only to hear the guy speak up again.
"Where are you taking her?" He asked.
"Don't worry." I paused. "She's with me now, I'll keep her safe."
Not letting another moment pass him, he nodded his head. I gotta say, he put his trust in me. Now I don't know if it was what I just did for them or that he and Elizabeth have been previously talking about me; but it was clear that he trusted me with her. And boy did he seem protective of her..
I took Elizabeth's hand with mine. Before I could take off with her again, the guy had moved over to us and grasp her in his arms. She let go of my hands. They held each other in a tight embrace while Ivy and I waited for them to finish.
"Be careful, Liz." He spoke over her shoulder.
Nodding her head, Elizabeth wished him the same too and they pulled apart.
Not wasting another second, I brought up the fact that we have to keep going again. The exit was right there for Ivy and Elizabeth's friend. They were safe now and I think that's what helped Elizabeth to keep going.
Taking her hand once more, I started leading us down the hallway in front of us. We drifted ways from the others and all I could think about now was getting Elizabeth to safety.

I could feel my pulse beating in my ears widely, and the sounds of uneven breaths soon became a distant background noise as I followed Jack closely. It seemed foolish to trust him after everything he's done to me and put me through, yet he still manages to revert all that and completely brainwash me all over again. I should know better. But without Jack being here tonight I could've been taken; perhaps even dead.. So I continued to trail behind him.
"Hold on." Jack stopped in our tracks.
Looking up at him; I watched him pull out his vibrating phone. He slid the screen unlocked and then held the object up to his ears.
"Talk to me." He gestured to the other person in the line.
My eyes wandered around the space as he continued to speak. Almost as a look out for another person coming with a weapon held tight in their grip.
We were lost in a trance of empty halls. There was no one here for the building was trying to be cleared by security through the main entrance and bottom floor. With that so, that doesn't mean we should let our guard down. Like Colt mentioned before; he has us surrounded.
"Yeah, I got her." Jack's voice brought me back to his attention.
"Colt should be finding his car right now.. We're in the east wing of the building." He spoke looking around.
"Hurry." He finished. And with that, Jack hung up his phone and placed it back in his pocket.
I stood still, as far as I could get from him as possible. Only one thought came to mind as I watched him start to settle down. No more running. It was all.. Calm..
"Is it over?" My breathing came out in heavy puffs of air.
Jack looked back at me. The look in his eyes said it all.
He couldn't come up with the right words to say.
The look in his face was all I need for an answer.
Looking back down, I sighed. "James was right.." I let out.
Curious to see Jack's face with my statement, I looked back him. The news didn't make any sense to him.
I guess I need to explain it..
"Look, I'm sorry." I continued. "I found myself in a scary situation and -- I didn't know what to do. I told James everything." I sighed. "He suggested that you were protecting me from someone... Someone who had it out for me." I paused. "Colt."
I couldn't really read Jack's expression. He was a hard one to read since he's always so serious for everything.
"Is he right?" I asked.
The answer was quite obvious but deep down inside me I hoped that he would deny it. I was praying that it'd be one of those days where he would tell me that I was over exaggerating.
Sadly, today wasn't the day.
Jack looked down and lightly shook his head. "I'm sorry.."
Yup.. Definitely not what I wanted to hear..
"You knew he was coming after me.." I continued, referring to past actions. "You came prepared.."
Jack looked up at me again. "I had to prepare for the worst."
"And what was your plan?" I crossed my arms. "Making me jealous of you?"
"It wasn't the best plan in the world.." He shook his head. "It wasn't even mine to begin with.."
Excuses, excuses.
"That's very low of you Jack." I pinned my eyes.
"I know."
His response took me by surprise. I was still upset with him but at least he became aware of actions and owned up to it.
"Why?" I found the urge to ask him rise up inside me. "Why couldn't you just tell me the truth?" I paused. "I would've believed you.. I trust you?"
Jack's head looked back up at me.
"I could've handled it." I sounded stiff and sturdy. Truthfully, I probably would've been scared to death much to how I'm like now. But I wasn't lying when I said I could've handled it..
"I know." His eyes glanced from the ground back to me... "But I wouldn't."
There was nothing more but blank stares reflected back from Jack and I. No words, no nothing. He had a power over me, and those words brought me right back to square one..
My mouth opened agape. I was about to say something when something else stopped me from doing so. A couple of footsteps were heard clicking against the polished tile floors of the building. The sound broke the stare Jack and I were holding and immediately brought us back to our fight or flight stage. Jack being the one to fight, and me the one to flight.
Pulling the gun right back it in front of him, Jack pointed towards the only other entrance this wing of the building had. He stood there.
My heart bested louder as the steps drew closer.. And closer they did.
Widening my eyes, I noticed another male step into the room with an all black suite and dark blonde hair.
I released a breath I didn't even know I was holding as the male put down his weapon and I was able to recognize just who it was...
"Shit, Justin!" Jack exclaimed, putting his weapon down besides him too.
"What the Hell are you guys standing there for like a pair of statues for!?" He looked back at us in shock. "Let's go!"
Turning around, Justin started heading out and it wasn't long before we started tracing back in his footsteps too. I had to say, I was really relieved when I got to see Justin. Honestly, I really don't know if I could've been prepared if it was Andrew.. Ugh.. I don't even want to think about it. I can't! It'll only make me worse.
I followed up behind Justin. Jack having our backs. I was sandwiched between these two guys holding a gun around a very high class museum. That'll be really interesting to put on a college résumé.
There weren't as much ups and downs as before when Jack was leading the way. I guess Justin already knew where to go since.. Well, he's coming right from the place he's leading to us now.. Another exit.
Luckily enough, it was fast and easy. We had no run ins with anyone else whatsoever by choosing to leave from the back of the building. I had to say, this was probably crazier than running away from the cops.
We reached outside with a cold breeze hitting us the second Justin barged through the exit door. There was a flight of stairs waiting for us just like the ones from outside, only these had less lights and luxury since again.. It was the back of the building and not meant for public eyes! Down the flight of stairs, on the road besides the sidewalk, stood parked a dark gray SUV.
The windows rolled down.
I looked back as I heard a loud slam come to my ears from the door Jack was closing from behind him. He stood besides me and Justin as we watched who became clear that was behind the wheel.
"Well what are you waiting for?" A boy shouted from the drivers seat across to the passengers seat.
Justin and Jack hurried down the stairs which, to my due, I followed along behind them. Of course, it took longer for me due to the fact that my dress was short and I was wearing heels. Running is one thing, but going down the stairs requires much more effort.
The back door swung open and Justin hoped in. Jack awaited for me to finish before he too helped me climb on. In front of the driver's seat sat yet another familiar face.. Cameron.
I got on and the door was shut. My heart was racing.
Jack swung open the passenger's seat but before he could climb on; an excruciating sound of tires scrapping across the street ground roared from behind us. We all turned our heads. A car turning on the curb from the building down to our street.
It was a green car.. As crazy as it seemed, it wasn't just any car, but a familiar one too from which I recalled seeing the night Jack too me out to see the street race.. It was Colt's car.
"Shit." Cameron mumbled.
"GILINSKY GET ON!" He shouted back at Jack and pulled him in by his shirt.
Not wasting another moment, Cameron stepped on the gas. Leaving Jack's door still opened, it became a struggle to close it back up when he started driving at a speed of 100 miles per hour.
I was pushed back into my chair with the speed while every other guy seemed fine about it. My shoulders started swinging side to side with the movement of all the switching lanes we came across from.
Oh Dear God, let me live!
"What the Hell took you so long, Man?" Cameron asked Jack.
Jack had his body facing to the back, keeping an eyes out for the distance between them and Colt.
"It's a huge building, Cam." Jack retorted.
"Still, it shouldn't have taken you so long." He kept his eyes on the road as well as his mirrors.
"Whatever.." Jack scoffed. "I'm here now."
Ignoring Jack's remark, Cameron looked over to his rear view mirror. This time, he wasn't looking at the car behind us..
"Are you okay?" He asked referring back to me.
I shuffled in my seat feeling a sudden verge of uncomfortableness rush upon me. It wasn't what he said that made me get like this, it was how he said it. Was I really okay? I guess you could say that being in this situation I would be more panicked. I was rather calm from the fact that I was literally in a chase right now and had witnessed a shooting at the MET. Maybe I was so scared I had no emotion.. Whatever it was, it was scaring me too.
"I'm fine?" I answered back.
Jack didn't say anything, just sat back down in his seat. Wishing to myself he would've said something to kill the awkward silence, I soon became aware of why we were here in the first place and later started feeling remorsingeful to just the thought.
Not giving Cameron much of a chance to speak up again, bright lights flashed from behind the automobile's window, signaling to us that they were right behind us.
Cameron cursed, yet again.
My pulse could now by heard from ears once more as I was now in a speeding car practically be aiming part of a speed chase from yet again.. Colt.
I tried to keep my cool. I couldn't..
"Why is he still following us?" I leaned over to come centered between the two seats.
Cameron glanced from both his mirror and back to the road. A heavy pull was felt on my body as he swerved over to another lane in order to get away from Colt.
"Obviously you're one heck of a price." He looked back at me from the mirror.
Taking it in, I managed to sit back down on my seat. I tried to remain calm when..
Just when I was finally recollecting myself, I lost it again..
Bang!
A loud shot was heard, then later felt as it came crashing from the window behind us.
My hands swung to cover my head and duck. We all did. Shards of glass came flying from the back window of the car.
"Elizabeth!" Justin's hand met my knee as he looked up at me concerned. "Are you alright?"
I was too nervous to speak; the shot took me by surprise. It took us all by surprise but these guys are probably used to this kind of stuff. Seeing from before in the museum and the shoot down Jack put us through, this was the least of their worries.
"FUCK!" Cameron cursed as he punched the steering wheel.
"Dude, you gotta get out of the city!" Justin exclaimed, glancing back over his shoulder to see the distance from Colt.
"Alright, change of plan." Cameron instructed.
"What happened to the original plan?" Jack shouted back.
Everyone was shouting in this car.
"The original plan didn't involve this motherfucker chasing and shooting us!" He looked back at Jack. "We're moving to another plan." He instructed, looking back out to the road.
Not a moment after, another shot crashed into the remaining glass from the back of the car.
Covering our heads yet again, the guys started cursing.
"That's it!" Justin exclaimed, jolting up to his knees and turning around to look over to the broken glass.. A gun in his hands.
My ears ringed with the sudden sound of shots being fired. Apart from the fact that it was already loud, the sound was excruciating when it was right next to you in a closed space.
He kept firing. Shot after shot but still no sign of Colt stopping.
"Speed it up would you!?" Justin called back to the driver.
"I'm going as fast as the traffic lets me!" He called me. "It's New York Fucking City for crying out loud!"
Justin fired another shot, this one making him smile as he hit the windshield of Colt's car and causing to swerve from lane to lane from the blockage of cracked crystal in his window.
"Got him!" Justin exclaimed as if he's conquered the day..
Looking back from his mirror, the driver didn't hold any expression. I on the other hand was still scared shitless.
"What's the new plan?" I heard Jack's voice ask Cameron.
Cam didn't respond to him for a good while. Focused on the road, he didn't speak until we took an exit off from the main road; the sign reading "Forest Ahead"
What could possibly be this new plan?
"You need to get down.. You and Elizabeth." He explained. "Right now our homes are no good and a hotel would be easy to track once you swipe your card to pay for your room."
"So you're taking us to the forest!?" Jack exclaimed.
"Uh guys.." Justin broke in. "We've got company again.."
Looking back, we noticed the green car make a sudden reappearance. This time, coming in faster than before.
"It's the same run you've done before. I'll meet you at the break of dawn when I know Colt is done for good." Cam instructed.
"You can't possibly know that." Jack retorted.
"But I can try.." He continued. "I need to give him a distraction."
"Do you see that curb over there?" He pointed over to it just a mile away.
Jack nodded.
"When I make that turn, you have to jump."
"What!" I exclaimed.
For the whole time they were just planning this, all I could think about was when it was going to stop. And now I find out that I have to jump out of a moving vehicle!
"You have 30 seconds, Jack! There's grass on the other side and a small hill that would lead you straight into the woods." He explained to both Jack and I.
From the looks of it, Jack already knew what Cameron was talking about. It wasn't the first time they were pulling a stunt like this.
"Here." Cam dug into his front pocket and pulled out a set of keys. They were placed in the palm of Jack's hand.
Both men stared at each other and without saying anything else about the object, they skipped to another subject.
"15 seconds.." He instructed.
"No," I interrupted. "No, I can't do this." I shook my head.
Jack turned in his chair. "Elizabeth, you have to do this.."
"I can't." I got nervous.
"Elizabeth, you made it this far." Jack took hold of my hand. "I know you can do this!"
My breathing became uneven.
"You said you trusted me..." He paused. "So trust me now more than ever..."
I bit my lip. I wish I could just do it, but it's not like I've done this before.. What if I don't jump as far as I needed to and blow the whole plan up? What if I jump to far and skip the hill to break a leg or something? I'm in heels for crying out loud!
"GILINSKY!" Cameron shouted.
Jack gave me a nodding look. Having confidence in me, he released my hand and opened the door. I did the same.
"JUMP!"
Our bodies swung out of the vehicle with the help of the turning friction.
It was all too dark. I couldn't see where I was going; but 3 seconds later I felt gravity take the best of me. Cold, wet grass was felt all over my body. My breathing became heavy as the hard thump left me with no air. We made it to the grass, but it wasn't enough.
"Get down!" I felt Jack's hand urge me to scoot further down the small hill and just lay there. My face fully hitting the grass.
The sounds and lights from Colt's car were felt. Since we were still so close to the road, we felt the vibrations of car in the soil beneath us. The headlights flashed as he too made the turn on the curb. Screeching noises from the tires sent my heart racing until nothing else was heard.
I raised my head; heavy panting had the small strands of hair blowing in and out from in front of my face.
They were gone..
I turned my head with the sudden touch I felt to my shoulder. Jack was laying right besides me; completely out of breath too.
There was a good second or two of just plain stares. Shortly after, it was broken by our heavy felt heads hitting the ground again.
That was probably the calmest moment we had tonight. At the forest, with our heads and bodies resting weightlessly over the wet grass.
Defiantly the best moment from tonight.
Of course, like everything good that happened tonight.. The moment couldn't last.
"We need to get going." Jack gestured.
Nodding my head, I sat up. I shook off the pieces of grass that got stuck to my arms and chest. Jack followed my actions but he wasn't so worried to take off ever single piece of grass he found. I stood up tall, to start removing the grass from my dress.. But it was a bad idea..
I was in grass, still wearing heels, and became unaware of the heel burying into the ground with my body weight. We still basically on the hill and all to the second, I lost balance.
"Elizabeth!"
Jack's hand reached out to grab me but I was already too tipped over for him to rescue me.
He didn't have time to pull away either.
Holding his hand, I took him down with me. One on top of the other, together we rolled down the hill.
It was a painful roll. A few twigs were heard snapping on the way down. Painful bumps were hit.
We finally reached the bottom and of course, we were both grunting in pain.
"Oww." We both complained, rubbing our heads.
I sat up only to find out I was literally on top of Jack. Our eyes met and though his remained closed after a while to rub his head, mine had literally bounced out of their sockets. My body was sore from the fall, and the jump, and the run; but I was quick to react and get off him so quickly that it felt as if I've pulled a ligament or something just moments after.
"Ouch!" I clasped a hand over my ankle.
It wasn't a pleasant fall. And between the fall and the roll down the hill, I felt as if I had severely damaged something.
"Are you okay?" Jack quickly sat up, coming closer to my side.
"We just rolled down a 10 foot hill." I stated sarcastically. "What do you think?"
I didn't mean for it to come out as mean as it did. After everything he put me through, he still managed to get me out. Might not have been the safest way, but I'm out..
"Sorry." I apologized.
My eyes dropped back down to my ankle.
"You're not the one who should be apologizing." He spoke up.
His remark made me look back at him. He was taking full responsibility for this; something I never thought was possible.. Especially for Jack.
"Can you walk?" He asked, looking down to my ankle.
Jack stood up then helped me as he watched me struggle to do so myself. Once up, I put some weight on it and felt the difference. Only, I couldn't find myself answering that question without a little more detail..
"Depends?" I asked. "Where are we going?"
Jack dug his hand into one the pockets of his suit. He pulled out the keys Cameron gave him. No words were spoken but he held onto them pretty tight. Curious with what they would unlock, I decided it was best if didn't question for the moment. I guess I'll find out eventually anyways.
"Follow me."
