FINAL CHAPTER

Joey's POV

Daniel and I quickly clambered down from the deck and jumped into the shallow water surrounding the Aedon beach. The cool icy water felt refreshing on my skin and soothed my exhausted body.

Joey- Ahhh.

I sighed with relief and let the water soak into my pores.

Daniel- What?

Joey- N-Nothing, the water's just really nice.

Daniel- Yeah it is but we have to hurry.

I made sure I had the magic silver box and we headed into the forest towards the kingdom of Aedon.

We walked in silence, the only sound was the constant rustling of leaves in the wind and the calls of certain birds.

I was trying to stay positive but my dark thoughts were being to consume me.

Joey- Danny?

Daniel- Mmhmm?

Joey- What if- What if we don't make it back in time? What if it's too late and the whole kingdom has been destroyed by the monster?

Daniel- Well J, all we can really do is hope, we must believe that it will all work out okay in the end.

Joey- You're right Danny.

Daniel- I know.

He said smugly and I snorted.

Joey- Pig.

Daniel- REEEEEEE! *sound of a pig squealing*

He squealed with a sly expression and I tried to stay serious but deadpanned. 

After a short while we were nearing the kingdom. Once it came into view through the trees I was shocked.

I could see the charred buildings and rubble everywhere. Everything looked like it was just hit by a tornado, earthquake and a fire all at once. The Kingdom plagued by the destruction of the monster.

I could not see any people or villagers anywhere so I gladly assume they evacuated.

Me and Daniel wandered through the wreckage.

As we passed a particular building, that looked half melted, Daniel gasped and let out a chocked sob.

Joey- Danny? Danny, what's wrong?

I said concerned and rushed to his side as he continued to stare at the ruined building.

Daniel- N-nothing. Just uh... this was- this was my house... for fourteen years of my life... and now it's destroyed.

He said trying to hold back his wails.

Joey- Awe Danny, it's okay.

I wrapped my arms tightly around him and he put his face in my hair, crying into it. It became sticky but I didn't mind, Daniel was much more important.

Joey- Hey. It's alright, I know it's hard but it's all going to be okay, we need to stay strong so we can defeat the monster and save the rest of the kingdom.

Daniel- You're right, I guess it's just hard because this place was the only thing that reminded me of Carter and Luke.

I rubbed his back for a few moments before he pulled away.

Daniel- Well, that's no point in moping, we've got a kingdom to save!

Joey- That's the spirit!

We walked back out of the kingdom walls and into the forest so we could devise a plan.

Daniel- I don't understand, how can this be the 'key'? It's just a box.

Joey- I don't think the box is the key, it must be inside of the box.

Daniel- I can't open it, it's locked shut, just like the other box.

Joey- What's with all the locked magic boxes?

Daniel- I don't know.

Joey- Does your bracelet work again?

Daniel- No. I already tried. This box doesn't even have any sort of keyhole. I can't even see where it opens.

Joey- This is pointless.

Suddenly I could hear a rustling coming from the bushes. I quickly drew my sword and leaped up.

Daniel got a fright from my sudden movement but then he also saw the bushes moving.

I quietly stalked over to the bush.

Joey- Who's there?

No reply.

I pulled some of the branches aside and what I saw was NOT what I was expecting. There before me stood...

The witch.

Joey- You! What are you doing here?!

I thrust my sword towards her but she jumped out of the way.

Joey- This is all your fault! You caused all of this!

I said angrily.

Witch- Please, this is important.

Joey- Well whatever it is we are busy... fixing what you did.

Witch- I know how to defeat the monster.

My facial expressions changed only slightly but I gestured for her to continue.

Witch- You see, I had to create the monster, it was the only way to play out the prophecy.

Daniel- What prophecy?

Daniel said from behind me, walking towards us.

Witch- Now you see the monster was NOT supposed to be that powerful but that boy got in the way.

Joey- That still doesn't explain why you created it in the first place.

Witch- I'll tell you a story. Many years ago I went for a horse ride. On my way I came across a woman in the woods. She seemed kind and she offered me an apple. I accepted, foolish decision I see now, once I took a bite I began to feel drowsy. When I awoke I was in the middle of the forest. My possessions were gone along with my horse. I soon realized that the lady was a witch and she had cast a spell on me, turning me into a witch as well. I knew my kingdom would not be safe if I stayed and neither would my child. I fled and came here to Aedon. Once here I discovered the prophecy which was etched into a cave wall I know you both have seen.

Joey- Those ancient cave drawings were a prophecy... that you are a part of?

Witch- That YOU are a part of, yes.

Joey- But why did you create the monster?

Witch- Because you needed to travel to Romania, you needed to find the key and bring it back here to defeat the evil once and for all.

Daniel- You're a witch, why can't you just defeat the monster you created?

Witch- I cast all of my magic into it, I have no powers anymore but I cannot be freed from being a witch until the monster, and the evil, is destroyed forever. Then I can return home.

Daniel- Where is your home?

Witch- Romania.

Joey- Ro- wait! You said you disappeared after going for a horse ride, you left your kingdom and child to keep them safe... that's exactly what the King said about his wife...

Witch- That is because... I am the missing Queen Maria of Brașov.

Me and Daniel gasped in shock.

Maria- But there is something else you should know...

Janiel- What?

Maria- As you know my son was sent from my kingdom to keep him safe from the prophecy.

Daniel- What does that have to do with anything?

What the witch/queen said next shocked both me but mostly Daniel.

Daniel's POV

Maria- Don't you understand? The prince, my son, was sent away from my former kingdom with half of the key and the other was still in Romania, this half and this half,

She pointed to the box and then my bracelet. Then she pointed to me.

Maria- You, you are Daniel Christopher Preda, heir of Brașov. 

You are my son. 

My Prince.

I am a Prince. A lost Prince. From Romania. My father was King Alexandru. This was.MY.MOTHER.

The news was so overwhelming that I collapsed into her arms.

After so many years of having no idea who I was, having no parents, no idea where I came from. I could now hug my own mother.

Maria- I missed you so much darling. You've grown up into such an amazing, caring, handsome young man and I couldn't have ever asked for anything more. I've always been watching over you my dear.

I continued to sob but eventually let go of her. Immediately ending up back in Joey's arms. Gosh I love him so much.

Maria- I know it's all overwhelming but the prophecy isn't over yet, you must still defeat the monster and destroy the evil once and for all.

Joey- Well how do we do it?

Maria- You need both halves of the key. Daniel your bracelet is one and the other is inside the box.

Daniel- But neither of us can open it.

Maria- And neither of you can... but both of you, then it will open. 

Joey- What?

Maria- Touch it.

Joey picked it up and held it in front of him. I reached forwards and lightly placed my fingers upon it.

Instantly the lid cracked open and a turquoise smoke came out. Once it cleared we were able to see what was inside. 

It was a bracelet.

Exactly like mine.

Joey- It's another bracelet?

Daniel- Identical to mine...

Joey- I don't understand, how do we defeat a monster with bracelets?

Maria- They aren't just any bracelets. They are magic bracelets. The are powered by compassion and true love to defeat destruction and hate. You two are the love that will defeat all hate. Put on the bracelet Joey.

Joey slipped the bracelet onto his wrist and for a moment it glowed.

Maria- Together you are the key. The key that will defeat the monster. Now go out there and save your kingdom.

Third person's POV

The two boys ran back to the kingdom. They raced through the deserted village and up to the dark castle. The castle itself looked a lot more evil that in had before, as if it had been created by dark magic. It towered over the lovers, taunting them, as if to remind them just how small they were. But what the dark magic didn't realize was that they had the biggest hearts. 

The boys reached the castle and wasted no time breaking through the large front door. Once inside they saw the destruction. Tables over turned, paintings clawed as if by an animal. Holes smashed in the walls and blood splatters on the floor. The sight angered the Princes but also horrified them.

Suddenly a loud roar was heard from the floor above.

Joey- Daniel, quick, we must lead it outside.

The two waited until loud crashing could be heard from above and suddenly a huge bang and the roof above them began to collapse. They rushed outside as the monster fell through onto the bottom floor. 

They lead it outside, to the castle gardens of their youth. The monster followed, continuously shooting out bolts of fire that burned everything it hit. The monster was completely taken over by the dark magic and was faceless. The monster was closing in on the shorter boy and was just about to fire a bolt at him when the other called from behind.

Daniel- Hey! Over here!

Joey could tell Daniel was distracting it while he got closer.

Joey- Over here!!

Joey called and it faced him again so Daniel could also get closer.

Daniel- No, over here!

The tall boy called whilst running to the left to confuse the beast.

Joey- Yoo-hoo! This way!

Joey went to run but the monster already had him in it's sights.

The monster fired a fatal blow and it hit Joey in the side.

Daniel- JOEY! NO!

The boy fell to the ground in pain, breath shallow.

The monster proceeded towards the injured boy but Daniel was quicker. He raced to Joey's side and lightly placed a hand over the injury.

Daniel- Joey? Joey! 

The lighter haired boy's eyes began to flutter and the dark haired one could do nothing but clutch onto him in shock and despair. 

Daniel- J? Joey? Joey NO!

He sobbed and screamed into the others chest in desperation. Soaking the fabric till it stuck to his skin.

Joey- D-Daniel, I-I love yo-

He croaked out and then his eyes began to close. Daniel just stared at he boy he loved so, so much.

A tear from Daniel's eyes dripped onto Joey's face and he took Joey's hand softly in his own.

Daniel- I love y-you too.

He whispered into Joey's lips as he connected them with his own.

As their hands touched, although Daniel didn't see, their bracelets began to glow. They grew brighter and brighter until there was nothing but a giant ball of golden light.

Neither of the boys opened their eyes for many moments until a large shock wave exploded into the air. Daniel's eyes flashed open at the sensation and he pulled back from Joey's lips.

To see him looking back.

Daniel- Joey?!

Joey- Daniel?

He whispered with a shallow breath.

Daniel- Joey, I thought I lost you!

Joey- You'll never loose me Daniel, i'll always be with you... 

Joey's eyes closed once again.

Daniel- No Joey! Stay with me!

The taller boy begged in desperation and a low sound began to emit from the small boy's throat.

Daniel- Oh my gosh! You're dying!

The sound got louder until Daniel was able to recognize it as a familiar sound.

Daniel- Are you... laughing?

The boy's eyes opened, the bright ocean blue meeting deep forest green.

Joey- You didn't think you could get rid of me that easy did you?

He said laughing even more.

Daniel- Joey!

The taller one grabbed onto the other as tight as he could and connected their lips with pure fireworks of passion and love.

X- Well, seems like that all worked out...

The two boys broke apart, sat up and turned to see who spoke.

Daniel- Jerold?

Jerold- Yes.

Joey- What? But.. how?

Jerold- It seems you two and your true love has defeated the evil once and for all. 

The two boys smiled at each other as they looked around to see that the shock wave of magic from their bracelets caused the monster to simply disappear as well as save Joey. Both Tyler and the King were dead.

Then someone else spoke.

X- Ah Jerold! Long time since I have seen you!

Jerold- Hello, my Queen.

Daniel- Mother?

Maria- Hello Daniel.

Joey- Why did Jerold call you his Queen?

Jerold- Because she has always been my Queen, long before you both were born I was Queen Maria and King Alexandru's loyal servant. I came here with you Daniel. I took you here and gave you to Carter and Luke because I knew they would keep you safe. I've been watching over you all these years, working in the castle because I knew one day, the prophecy would come true. And it did.

Maria- Now that the evil has been destroyed, I am no longer a witch and I will be returning to my Kingdom in Romania.

Jerold- I will go with you, my Queen.

Daniel- I will miss you very much Mother.

Daniel said, standing up to hug her.

Maria- You are welcome to come Daniel. You can come back to Romania and rule all of Brașov as Prince and then King.

Daniel- Really?!

Maria- Of course, it is who you are.

Daniel was filled with excitement of finally living in the place he was born but it dissipated once he turned and saw Joey standing behind him.

Daniel- Joey! Will you come with me?

Joey- Daniel, you know I would love to... but, I can't leave my people. Now that the King is dead I must become King and rebuild my Kingdom. You must go, this is who you were meant to be Daniel. Go rule your kingdom, I will miss you. Go be with your family.

Joey didn't want Daniel to leave for he loved him more than he could ever imagine but he believed this was what he was meant to do. Go home, be who he was meant to be, with his family. He always believed 'if you love them, let them go'.

Daniel was torn, go with his Mother, live with his parents, become king, rule his home Kingdom or stay with the love of his life. He might have been torn but that didn't stop his choice from being perfectly crystal clear.

Daniel- I'm staying.

Joey didn't realize that was the answer he wanted until Daniel said it. He ran into his arms and they held their embrace tightly.

Daniel- I would never leave you Joey. You are the love of my life. For goodness sake, WE were the chosen ones. You're going to need help rebuilding a kingdom. And besides, I already have a family... 

you.

Joey and Daniel then spoke in unison.

Janiel- I love you, my Prince.
