Chapter 9 - Range of the Elders

"What about our friend? Allister. He just disappeared." Alec added.

"What's his ability?" Tyrrox asked, turning around.

"He has these markings, when danger is near they glow purple. But he just disappeared. Vanished." Sparrow spoke.

"I've met a few witches and warlocks but none who can sense danger. I'm afraid I can't help you with him." Tyrrox informed them, starting to walk again.

"He could be anywhere we can't just leave him." Sparrow turned to Amber.

"We can come back for him later, we are wasting valuable time." Tyrrox sighed, not stopping.

"He's a child." Sparrow turned back to Tyrrox.

"The entire dimension is at risk!" Tyrrox raised his voice before stopping himself,"I apologize, I never like raising my voice."

Sparrow blinked before she stepped back, walking beside Amber.

"I am sorry children but your small friend will have to wait. If you don't get all the relics soon, there might not be any dimension left for anyone." Tyrrox explained as they headed towards the mountains.

"We only need a few more." Alec sighed.

"The sooner the better." Tyrrox told him.

"How many more do we need?" Alec turned to Seymour.

"Well, we're about to get the Centaur's and we still have to go to the Mermaids, Angels and Elves." Seymour informed him,"We also have to go get the Dragon one."

"Dragon?" Amber spoke up, looking at Seymour.

"Yes, dragons." Seymour nodded,"King Smoulder is in charge there and it is also a highly flammable location."

"How many dimensions is there?" Amber whined.

"Stop complaining, that's my job." Seymour told her.

"Can we just hurry up and get the relics then we can sleep?" Amber sighed.

"Why do you think I'm leading you to the Parkour mountains?" Tyrrox asked her.

"The what mountains?" Alec questioned.

"Well, it's called 'The Range of the Elders' but most call it the Parkour Mountains." Tyrrox explained,"You are required to complete it to get the relic."

"And if we can't complete it?" Alec raised a brow.

"Well, you die. We Centaurs love competition and take it very seriously." Tyrrox told him, stopping at the foot of the mountain.

"That's not terrifying at all." Sparrow muttered.

"I know, there are also a few rules." Tyrrox began,"There is no magic allowed, only your natural born strength."

"Thats one." Seymour nodded.

"No flying, also." Tyrrox added on,"I think that's it."

"All of us need to go up?" Alec questioned.

"No, you don't ALL need to go. As long as one of you makes it to the end." Tyrrox answered him.

"I think I should go, I am the strongest." Seymour stepped forward.

"Can you jump?" Tyrrox asked him.

"I'd say so." Seymour nodded.

"Well go ahead, my boy." Tyrrox patted his back,"Start whenever you are ready."

"Be careful." Alec warned Seymour.

Seymour nodded, looking at the entrance before he began.

"Have a nice trip." Tyrrox waved to him.

Seymour just glanced back at them, continuing his journey.

"Right, how far do you lot think he'll make it?" Tyrrox asked the rest of them curiously.

"You think he's going to die?" Sparrow questioned.

"He might, I just want your options." Tyrrox shrugged.

"He'll make it." Alec crossed his arms.

"Where does he excel?" Tyrrox questioned, sitting down.

"He's a great fighter. Good runner, jumper." Alec shrugged.

"Kisser?" Amber whispered into Alec's ear.

"Kis-" Alec began before he blushed and looked away.

"So he is!" Amber exclaimed.

"What?! No! I mean, yes! Amber!" Alec whined.

"Children, please, this is highly dangerous. I don't want to miss this." Tyrrox told them, still watching Seymour.

"Then don't. We're having a conversation." Sparrow held her hands together.

"A loud conversation. That could disturb the rocks and cause your friend to plummet to his untimely demise." Tyrrox explained to them.

Alec quickly turned back to Seymour, "He's fine. We're fine. We won't talk."

"Oh look, he's reached the moving rocks." Tyrrox pointed out, clearly impressed.

"He'll be fine." Alec kept repeating.

"Why do you sound so impressed?" Amber asked him.

"Well, most people are dead at this point. Your friend is very skilled." Tyrrox nodded.

"Of course he is." Sparrow nodded.

"Is this Romulus' son? I recognize him." Tyrrox questioned them.

"Indeed he is." Alec nodded, looking over at Tyrrox.

That's when Tyrrox began squinting at the rocks,"Is he capable of turning invisible?"

"Is he capable of what now?" Sparrow looked at the rocks.

"I cannot see him and the bells of victory have not sounded." Tyrrox stated, standing up.

That's when Alec stood up slowly, "Seymour?!"

"I don't like intervening but Romulus would not be pleased if I let his son die." Tyrrox began running towards the rocks to see if he could find Seymour.

"He's fine, right?" Alec turned to the girls.

"This is Seymour, he'll be fine." Sparrow put a hand on his shoulder.

"He won't die, he loves you too much." Amber shrugged, landing on Amy

Amy baa'd, doing a small nod while they eagerly watched for Tyrrox or Seymour.

**

Seymour was currently hanging off the mountain side, trying not to look at the fall beneath him. He didn't want to die, he couldn't die. He had his dad, his friends, Fenna. God, this is just like when they first met...

"What are you doing down there?" Asked a young elf.

"I fell, what does it look like?" Seymour sighed, looking up at the elf.

"Heh, you should've been watching where you were going." The elf told him.

"I was. It was a stupid trap." Seymour scoffed.

"Well, I don't think the trapper would like to eat you." The elf informed him,"You're kind of ugly."

"Hey!" Seymour looked up at the elf.

"Do you want out or not?" The elf asked him, kneeling down.

Seymour hesitated before he nodded slowly.

"First, you lift up your arm and grab the closest nearby rock." The elf started.

Seymour sighed, doing as she said and pulled himself up.

"See, you're doing good." The elf praised him, holding out her hand.

"I could pull you down here right now, you realise that?" Seymour raised a brow.

"But I can climb." The elf pointed out.

Seymour rolled his eyes and took the elves hand. She smiled and pulled him up and out of the hole.

Seymour then sat on the grass, getting his breath back, "Thank you."

"You're welcome. What's your name?" The elf asked him.

"Seymour." Seymour answered, "And you?"

"I'm Fenna." The elf introduced herself, sitting beside him.

Seymour nodded, "I like that name. Thank you, again for helping me out the hole."

"It's no problem, I don't get to see many people." Fenna told him.

"How come?" Seymour tilted his head.

"Nobody ever comes to the forest, they're too scared." Fenna sighed,"It's just me and the trees."

"Well lucky for you, I'm not scared." Seymour crossed his arms.

"Seymour, there you are!" Romulus sighed, running forward,"Aw, you made a friend."

Seymour sighed, "Father, meet Fenna. Fenna, meet my dad, King Romulus."

Fenna bowed down,"It was very nice to meet you, sir."

"She saved me from the trappers trap." Seymour pointed to the hole.

"That's very kind of you but we must be off, head back to your parents Fenna." Romulus told the pair.

"Her parents live in the forest, she said its just her and the trees." Seymour looked up at Romulus.

"What are parents?" Fenna asked Seymour.

Seymour slowly turned to Fenna, "This is my dad, he's my parent."

"But what is it?" Fenna tilted her head, still confused.

"Dad?" Seymour turned to Romulus, "Why doesn't she know?"

Romulus looked at the two children in front of him as he thought before picking up Fenna.

"I have decided that I'm taking this child with me." Romulus announced.

"Come Seymour, you two can play while I sit through a boring meeting." Romulus took his son's hand.

"Oh.. Okay." Seymour nodded with a small smile.

That's when he reached up, grabbing the closest rock to him.

"I need to get through this." Seymour muttered to himself, pulling himself up.

**

"I can see him!" Alec jumped up and down.

"You do? Where?" Amber questioned, flying off Amy.

"There." Alec pointed ahead of them, they could just see Seymours hair.

"Aren't we lucky that his hair looks like snow, he's easy to spot." Amber nodded, floating over to Alec's shoulder.

"I'm just glad he's okay." Sparrow sighed.

Amy baa'd in agreement as they saw Tyrrox approaching

"See? He's okay." Alec nodded to Tyrrox.

"I can see that." Tyrrox told him, sitting down again.

"How far up is he?" Alec questioned.

"So high that if I caught him, my arms would break." Tyrrox stated.

"Oh god. How much longer do you think it'll take him?"  Sparrow raised a brow.

"He appears to be quite close, he just needs to reach that podium." Tyrrox pointed to a stone podium.

"And then what?" Amber asked.

"Well, he grabs the shield and then he can walk down the path back to us." Tyrrox explained.

They all nodded as they watched Seymour reach up to the podium, pulling himself up. That's when he grabbed it, causing the shield to glow for a few seconds. That's when he began making his way down the pathway.

"See? Told you I could do it." Seymour said proudly once he got back to them.

"Yes, my boy, but you nearly fell to your death." Tyrrox reminded him,"You were dangling around like a worm."

"I'm fine." Seymour shrugged.

"Are you sure about that?" Asked a familiar voice.

"Fenna." Seymour looked at her, wiping the sweat from his face.

"Not just me." Fenna told him, running over to them while holding a sleeping Allister.

"Are you two alright?" Sparrow and the others walked over to them.

"Perfectly fine, those birds couldn't touch me if they tried." Fenna nodded.

"And Allister?" Amber asked.

"He fell from the sky but I'm sure he's fine." Fenna answered.

"I'm sorry, how could he have fallen from the sky? He just disappeared." Sparrow looked at the small boy.

"He what?" Fenna blinked, looking at the group around her.

"He was getting scared, shaking. Then his marks glowed and he vanished. I wanted to stay incase he came back, but I wasn't allowed." Sparrow explained.

"Luck was on your side because he fell from the sky and knocked a bird out on his way down." Fenna stated,"Don't worry, I caught him."

"Since when could he vanish?" Alec asked.

"Maybe he got a bit overwhelmed by the whole situation, you'll half to ask Nostradamus." Fenna shrugged.

"We will once we find them." Seymour nodded.

**

"They aren't here." Amala crossed her arms.

"Of course they aren't! He lied to us." Natasha groaned.

"Y'know, I actually thought that dog was stupid enough to spill the beans." Amala turned and grabbed a nearby vine.

"What are they even trying to find?" Natasha turned to Amala.

"Patience is key." Amala told her, her eyes glowing a faint green.

"Do.. Your eyes always glow?" Natasha asked slowly.

Amala placed a finger over Natasha's mouth as she turned to a tree,"Tell me where they went."

Natasha couldn't hear anything, nothing at all. But then she heard a faint whisper, stating that they went to the centaurs. Amala then shook her head as a faint green mark appeared on her hand and her eyes stopped glowing.

"What's that?" Natasha moved Amala's finger away from her mouth.

"Side affect, now let's make our way to the Centaurs." Amala brushed her off as she created a portal.

"They could be gone by now." Natasha sighed.

"What do you want me to do about it? We have to see." Amala jumped through the portal first.

Natasha looked around where they were. This was all too new for her, but she needed the crown. Then, she jumped through the portal.

**

"Where to next?" Alec asked them.

"I believe.. The mermaids?" Seymour turned to Fenna.

"One problem, we can't breathe underwater." Fenna pointed out.

"I can help with that." Sparrow raised her hand.

"Oh yeah, you have water powers." Fenna remembered.

"Does anyone know where we can get Gillyweed? For you guys?" Sparrow questioned.

"I'm no botanist." Alec held his hands up.

"Mr Tyrrox?" Sparrow turned to him.

"There's a pond not far from here, it has interesting plant life. You might find it there." Tyrrox told her, pointing in a different direction.

"Thanks." Sparrow nodded before she started making her way to the direction.

"What does it look like?" Fenna asked Sparrow.

"Just like any small weed. It usually grows in a small patch together." Sparrow answered.

"This is going to be fun." Seymour sighed as they reached the pond.

"It's fine. We'll find it easy." Alec nudged Seymour.

"Mhm." Seymour nodded, nudging him a bit harder.

"Ow." Alec pouted.

"Seymour, don't hurt your boyfriend." Amber warned.

"Watch me." Seymour crossed his arms.

"Hey!" Alec stopped walking.

"Boys, play nice." Fenna told them, stepping into the water.

"Seymour is threatening me." Alec crossed his arms.

"You'll be fine." Fenna rolled her eyes, making a flame from her fingers.

"If I see any fighting, you're both getting Amy on you." Amber warned while Amy baa'd.

"Right, we're close. The water temperature is quite warmer when you're near Gillyweed." Sparrow stated.

"Maybe I should get out then, so I don't affect it." Fenna suggested.

"You shouldn't affect it." Sparrow shook her head, "I don't think you should anyway."

"My body radiates a fair bit of heat, that's the reason I haven't frozen to death yet." Fenna explained.

"Alright." Sparrow nodded, "You can get out then."

Fenna nodded, stepping out of the water and sitting on a rock next to a still unconscious Allister.

"Do you think he'll wake up before we get to the mermaids?" Amber asked Fenna.

"I don't know, I've never fell out of the sky before." Fenna shrugged.

"It's quite painful." Amber nodded.

"At least he wasn't eaten by a bird." Fenna patted his head.

"That's lucky at least." Amber nodded.

"Found it!" Sparrow held up a weed in her hand.

"I do have a question, what does it taste like?" Seymour asked, shaking the water from his hair.

"Very rubbery. Slightly salty though." Sparrow nodded.

"Rubbery?" Alec raised a brow.

"Yeah. But it's the saltiness you'll taste more." Sparrow shrugged.

"Let's get this over with." Seymour sighed.

"The second we eat it, we'll struggle to breathe. Well.. You guys will. So Fenna, you'll need to open the portal right away and everyone needs to go through." Sparrow explained, handing them each a strip.

Fenna nodded as she opened a portal and shoved the strip into her mouth.

The others did the same while Sparrow lifted up Allister, "Right, quickly."

She watched as all of them went into the portal. Sparrow then put Allister in a  protective that would allow him to breathe underwater before she walked through.
