Chapter 4 - Twilight Province
They landed in the Witches Realm, the Twilight Province, which was even worse than the Mirage Isles. There was a fog that blocked their vision except from the light of their stowaway.
"How are we getting that light? There's no one around." Alec pointed out.
"Alec what do you know that glows?" Seymour asked him.
"Many things actually." Alec shrugged.
"Fairy." Sparrow turned to look at them.
"See Alec? Was it that hard?" Seymour questioned his friend.
"How'd a fairy get here?" Alec asked.
"More importantly, why's a fairy here?" Fenna questioned.
"Why are you here?" Seymour straight up asked the fairy.
"I wanted to help." The fairy answered him.
"You do know that your Queen is looking for you, right?" Sparrow asked.
"I know but what will we do then? Sit and wait for you all to fix the problem?" The fairy crossed her arms,"Besides, you obviously need light."
"She has a point." Alec nodded.
"I mean, will you be ok just being our lantern?" Fenna asked the fairy, placing her hand out.
The fairy nodded, floating into Fenna's hand.
"Well, looks like we've got a new companion." Fenna shrugged.
"What's your name, fairy?" Seymour questioned.
"Amber." The fairy nodded,"You?"
"Seymour. This is Alec, we're werewolves. The elf who's holding you is Fenna and the mortal princess is Sparrow." Seymour explained.
Just when everything was going calmly with the group now introduced, something knocked over Alec who yelped in shock.
"I mean no harm!" Alec yelped when he fell to the ground.
Amber floated over, lighting up what knocked him over... It was a sheep. Make that a very wooly sheep.
"Why the heck did a sheep knock me over?" Alec groaned.
"Because you're a wimp." Seymour lifted him up and held him bridal style.
"No I'm not. Shut up." Alec crossed his arms.
"Are too." Seymour stated, still holding him.
"Not." Alec muttered.
"Are you going to keep holding him like that?" Fenna asked him.
Alec had his arms around Seymour neck while Seymour still held Alec bridal style. Alec looked st Seymour before he pushed him off and fell back to floor, quickly getting up.
"Aw, that was cute." Fenna crossed her arms.
"It really was." Sparrow agreed.
"I am not cute, never call me cute again." Seymour rested against a tree.
"Or what?" Sparrow raised a brow.
"You don't want to find out, now let's go get that relic." Seymour sighed.
They all nodded while they walked carefully through the realm.
"So sheep, can you talk?" Sparrow asked.
The sheep just made a 'baa' sound.
"Guess that's a no." Alec shrugged.
"Should we name you?" Seymour asked slowly.
"You can understand her?" Sparrow questioned.
"I understand the wilderness, the wilderness understands me." Fenna answered.
"Right, well ask the sheep.. If they like the name.. Amy." Sparrow nodded.
"Sheep?" Fenna tilted her head.
"Baa baa." The sheep replied.
"Is that a yes?" Alec asked.
"It is indeed." Fenna nodded as they arrived at the edge of a swamp.
"Right, can any of you swim?" Seymour stepped back from the swamp.
"I can." Fenna raised her hand.
"I can float." Alec stated.
"I can fly." Sparrow raised her own hand.
"Ditto." Amber floated upwards.
"Well Alec, you can stay here with Amy the sheep because you can't really swim." Seymour told him.
Alec groaned before he sat down with Amy the sheep. Fenna and Seymour dove into the water as Amber began hovering and Sparrow transformed. Soon enough, they got to the other side. Fenna and Seymour drying themselves off while Sparrow transformed back.
"Do you think Alec will be ok over there?" Fenna asked them.
"He has a sheep. He'll be fine." Seymour shrugged.
"He has a tendency to wander though so let's make this quick." Fenna stated, brushing some hair out of her face.
"He'll be fine. If he has something or someone with him, he won't wander." Seymour stated.
"So, where do you think the witches keep their relic." Fenna looked around.
"Near them. It's valuable." Amber stated.
"Obvious much." Seymour rolled his eyes,"We don't come here often as the Witches don't really like me."
"What did you do?" Sparrow turned to him.
"Don't immediately assume it was all my fault." Seymour crossed his arms.
"It all started when Seymour and I visited. The leader's daughter has the biggest crush on him." Fenna began.
"Go on. We're listening." Sparrow hummed while they walked.
"She asked me out and I said no because I don't swing that way, especially with strangers." Seymour raised his hands,"Now they all hate me except a small boy I met called Allister."
"Wait, so you're.. Attracted to men?" Sparrow asked.
"I mean, yeah." Seymour shrugged.
"Interesting." Sparrow smiled slightly while they walked.
"It's not that big of a deal." Seymour stated as he fell down onto a ledge.
"Of course it's not." Sparrow shook her head.
"Are you okay?" Amber flew down to him.
"Of course I'm fine. Why didn't you save me like Alec, Fen?" Seymour looked up at her.
"Maybe she was distracted." Amber suggested.
"Huh? What's happening?" Fenna tilted her head before looking down at Seymour,"Whatcha fell over for?"
"You- Nevermind." Seymour shook his head.
"You need to be more careful." Fenna told him.
"I tried." Seymour complained.
"Well, can you see anything down there?" Fenna asked him.
"Uhh.." Seymour looked ahead of him, "My eyesight is shit. Even as a werewolf."
"You're no help." Fenna sighed before holding her hand out,"Here."
Seymour looked at Fenna before he took her hand and pulled himself up.
"There." Fenna pointed in front of them,"That's Allister's hut. We can ask him."
"Do you think he'll talk to us?" Amber asked.
"It's a possibility, he likes us." Fenna nodded.
"Then let's go." Sparrow made her way to the hut.
They reached the small hut and knocked on the door. A small boy, no older than thirteen, opened the door.
"Fenna, Seymour?" Allister asked, looking at the human and fairy beside them, "You.. Brought people."
"Can we come in? We'll explain everything." Seymour told him.
Allister hesiated before he nodded and opened the door. The group walked inside. His house was rather small but it looked quite cosy. They all say down on the chairs except Amber who sat on Sparrow's shoulder.
"What are you all doing here?" Allister asked.
"To fix what's happened with the magic." Fenna stated.
"What's happened?" Allister asked, it looked like he hadn't been outside in a while.
"Look outside." Seymour sighed.
Allister gave them a look before he looked outside his window.
"We're not sure what happened but we're here to fix it." Seymour told him.
"When did it happen?" Allister asked.
"Quite recently I believe but we don't know the exact date." Fenna stated.
"And.. Who are these two?" Allister pointed to Sparrow and Amber.
"She's a mortal? A mortal shouldn't be allowed here." Allister shook his head.
"Too bad, I don't exactly appreciate it either." Seymour sighed.
"You'll get used to me, Seymour." Sparrow hummed.
"Do you happen to know where the relic is bud?" Fenna asked him.
"I'm not allowed near it." Allister shook his head.
"But can you show us where it is?" Fenna tilted her head.
Allister sighed, "It's in the castle."
He walked over to a spell book and showed it to them. The relic was a wand, it had some information of where abouts in the castle it was. In the highest tower.
"Right, castle. Let's hope Amala isn't there." Fenna joked, standing up.
"Who's Amala?" Sparrow questioned.
"The one who fancied me." Seymour crossed his arms.
"Oh." Sparrow held back a laugh, "Let's hope she isn't then."
Allister let out chuckle and sat the book down,"Good luck."
"Do you think she'll try kissing you, Seymour?" Sparrow teased.
Seymour gagged as he stood up and walked outside.
"She can't be that bad, right?" Sparrow asked.
"Trust me, she is." Fenna replied, following Seymour outside.
Sparrow and Amber joined the two, Allister hesitantly following behind.
"So where is the castle?" Amber asked him.
"Just up north then turn left." Allister spoke, looking around.
"Would you like to join us?" Fenna asked him.
"Only if you'd like me to." Allister nodded.
"You're like a little brother to me, of course you can come." Fenna smiled at him.
Allister gave a small smile while they walked. He was unsure of everything. Eventually they came across a tall, crooked castle surrounded by clouds.
"This is the castle?" Sparrow asked, looking at it.
"Sure is." Allister nodded slowly.
Sparrow raised a brow and turned to Allister, "You seem hesitant."
"Everything will be fine, just keep walking." Allister assured them.
Sparrow looked at Fenna and the others before they continued walking. That's when they fell through the floor, it collapsed beneath them. They all yelled before they landed on the floor beneath them. Everyone but Allister fell through.
"Hey Kid, mind giving us a hand here?" Seymour called up to him.
Allister looked down at them all, shaking his head, "I- I can't."
"What do you mean you can't?" Amber asked, her wings unable to lift her up.
"It's Amala, she-" Allister began.
"Allister!" A female voice yelled,"You served your purpose, now scram!"
"I'm so sorry." Allister whispered to the others, mostly Fenna and Seymour before he ran off.
"There you are~" The female cooed, looking down at Seymour.
"Oh no." Seymour muttered, moving behind Fenna.
"This is Amala?" Sparrow guessed.
Fenna nodded, glaring up at Amala and shielding Seymour.
"Look, Miss Amala. My friends and I just want to get out of here." Sparrow sighed.
"Ruin what?" Sparrow asked.
"My plan to rule all dimensions." Amala told them before adding,"Or my wedding."
"So you were the one-" Amber began, "Hold up, wedding?"
"To my beloved!" Amala exclaimed, walking off.
Sparrow could swear she heard Seymour whimper slightly as he grabbed onto Fenna.
Sparrow turned to her friends, "We've got a problem."
"And it's a big one." Fenna nodded,"I'm not letting her touch him."
"None of of will." Sparrow added, "We won’t let her do this, okay?"
She looked at Seymour. Seymour nodded, he may act tough all the time but he could also be vulnerable.
"What about the boy?" Amber asked.
"Allister wouldn't do this of his own will." Seymour spoke up,"Come to think of it, I didn't see or hear his mother when we went to his house."
"Do you think his mother is here? For ransom?" Sparrow suggested.
"It's a possibility." Fenna stated as a rope hit her on the head.
They all looked up to see where the rope came from.
"Climb up, you're going to the dungeons." Amala told them.
"Just follow her rules. We won't let anything happen to you Seymour." Sparrow assured him.
Seymour nodded, climbing up first. The others soon followed up after Seymour. The witch guards lead them all to the dungeons, throwing them in separate cells before taking Seymour away.
"Okay. This is fine. We can get out of here." Amber nodded.
"There are probably some enchantments here, best be cautious." Fenna told her.
"Will Seymour be okay?" Amber asked.
Fenna was quiet for a few moments, completely unsure before answering,"He will."
"Are you sure?" Amber raised a brow.
"No, I'm not but he will be." Fenna stated.
That's when they heard banging coming from her cell.
"You're going to break something. Calm down." Sparrow sighed, "We can think of a way out of here."
"Thinking takes time that we don't have!" Fenna shouted.
"Calm down!" Sparrow walked up to her own bars of the cell and glared at Fenna.
Fenna flinched before stopping and sitting on the floor.
"Thank you." Sparrow sat down in her own cell.
"Did you really just get Fenna to listen to you?" Amber asked.
"I didn't expect you to listen." Sparrow lay down on the floor.
Fenna just crossed her arms, she didn't expect herself to listen either.
"I'm sorry if I scared you." Sparrow hummed.
"I'm not scared." Fenna mumbled.
"You seem scared." Amber poked Fenna through the bars since their cells were next to each other.
"No hitting the bars." Sparrow sat up and looked at Fenna.
"I just don't like how I need to sit here while Seymour could be in danger." Fenna sighed.
"I know, but we'll get out. Trust me." Sparrow stood up and began inspecting the cell.
Fenna wandered around her small area, absentmindedly flicking around small flames.
"Aha!" Sparrow looked up at the ceiling of her cell.
"What is it?" Amber raised a brow
"Bloody shoes." Sparrow muttered, taking her shoes off before she pulled the bench that was in the cell over to her and stood on it.
That's when Sparrow jumped up and climbed onto the beam that held the roof up.
"If I can just balance, I can jump down and get the keys." Sparrow told them.
"You do that." Fenna nodded.
Before Sparrow could jump down, a few of the guards came in.
Fenna thought quickly and began flicking flames towards the guards, not sure if it would help.
"Stop that!" One of the guards demanded before he was dragged into an open cell.
"What are you g-" Fenna stopped herself, realising he was gone,"Huh?"
"I didn't do it." Fenna placed her hands on her hips, looking down at the guard.
"Sorry bud." Sparrow quickly took the keys from the guard before she kicked the guard into the cell, locking it.
"You can't do this!" The guard yelled.
"Well, she just did." Fenna stated, waiting by the cell door.
"It's quite comfy." Sparrow shrugged, turning and unlocked Fenna's cell before doing the same to Amber's.
"Where is he?" Fenna walked up the the guard.
"Your little friend?" The guard asked.
"Yeah? Where is he?" Fenna repeated.
"Busy." The other guard answered.
"I think you misheard. I asked where he was, not what he was doing." Fenna grabbed onto the bars.
"Probably.. At an altar by now." The guard smirked.
Fenna pushed the guard through the bars before running off.
"Have fun." Sparrow hummed, Amber waving before they ran after Fenna.
"What did you say to him?" Amber asked, finally getting enough magic to fly again.
"I told him something I'd rather not repeat." Fenna answered, running up the stairs.
"That's understable." Sparrow shrugged while she ran after Fenna, "Where's the Chapel?"
"Does it look like I know? I'm just running until I find it." Fenna shouted, stopping to look around.
Once they all stopped, they heard Amala speaking to Seymour in a room not far from them. Fenna crept over to the room, pushing the door open just a crack so the others could hear as well as her.
"Look, Amala. I've told you. I don't like you!" Seymour told her.
"I know you do." Amala stroked his face.
"Please, Amala. Just let me go. Let my friends go." Seymour pushed her hands off of him.
"I'll let them go." Amala paused before adding"After the wedding."
"No." Seymour crossed his arms.
"You don't have a choice." Amala pushed him onto a chair.
"Isnt there someone else you could marry?" Seymour asked.
"There are but I don't love them, do I?" Amala tilted her head.
"Well.. I don't love you Amala. You don't want a relationship like that." Seymour sighed.
Amala smiled before pulling out a wand and aiming it at his neck,"Now you listen to me, you will marry me or your friends will get it. Starting with the ugly one."
Seymour glared at Amala before he nodded slowly.
"That's good." Amala patted his head before walking through a portrait.
"Is she gone?" Amber whispered.
"Seems so." Fenna nodded.
Sparrow nodded before she opened the door even more and walked in.
Seymour looked at them,"What are you guys doing?"
"Saving you, duh." Amber fluttered into the room.
"You can't, she'll find us. Besides, she said she'd kill Fen." Seymour crossed his arms.
"I'm not ugly!" Fenna shouted, putting her hands on her hips.
"Don't be mean, Seymour." Sparrow crossed her arms, "Fenna isn't ugly and we'll find a way for you to get out of this."
"Look, I appreciate this but it won't work." Seymour sighed,"She probably has guards after you already."
"The guards are.. Locked away." Sparrow spoke slowly.
"She has more than three. She may be butt ugly but she has some intelligence." Seymour told her.
"Then we make sure we don't get followed." Amber told him.
"Just let us save you, you stubborn wolf." Fenna grabbed onto his wrist.
"When will Amala be coming back?" Sparrow asked Seymour while he got up.
"Does it look like I know? I don't even know why she left." Seymour shrugged.
Sparrow looked at Seymour before she began walking over to the portrait.
"It's bewitched or something like that." Seymour told her.
Sparrow tilted her head, "Peculiar. There's runes on the portrait."
"Fenna, what kind are they? You know that weird stuff." Seymour sat back down.
Fenna walked over and began examining the portrait; looking towards Sparrow.
"They say something. I'm not too sure though." Sparrow shook her head.
"I can't read it, they're ancient witch runes." Fenna shrugged,"If only we had a witch at our disposal.."
"Do you suggest anyone? We can't exactly ask Amala." Amber tilted her head.
"Stay here, I'm getting that guard that I traumatized." Fenna then sprinted out of the room.
"Be careful!" Sparrow called out to her.
