Chapter •2•
[~•3rd Person POV, Central Command, Six AM~•]
Riza pushed the door open to Mustangs office, going over to the coat rack and slipping off her jacket, placing it onto one of the many still empty pegs.
She turned, about to head over to her own desk, when she noticed Roys slouched over figure, face firmly buried in papers that lay upon his desk, a pen still in his hand. Riza sighed, and walked over to him, not bothering to awaken her superior. She gently began straightening his desk, pulling papers out from underneath his head delicately.
Once finished, she put them in a neat pile. Noticing every one of them had been signed, she smiled softly, a rare happening, at the sleeping Mustang.
"Oh Roy.." she said quietly to herself, knowing no one was around to hear.
Deciding to let him have his rest, she went back over to her own desk, a stack of papers, though not nearly as large as Roy's had been, awaited her to look through. Most of which where case files, she wondered how they had gotten here. Usually they weren't sent to their office. Must have been a mistake, she thought. But still found herself looking through them.
One of which was fairly new. A few days, at most. She felt slight recognition when she read the name on the file. Bald. Hmm... Ah, yes, the man who had tried to hijack a train a while back, when the Elric brothers had stopped him. She continued reading through the file.
At the very end, a few words made her deep hazel eyes widen. They read; Escaped, and yet to be found.
Escaped? Why had they not been informed? Riza stood quickly, her chair making a loud sound as it screeched slightly on the floor behind her, causing Roy to stir, lifting his face, hair sticking up in odd angles and to his face, by drool, most likely.
His onyx eyes blinked several times, trying to blink the drowsiness of sleep away.
"Sir," Riza said, standing at attention, the files tucked to her side.
"Yes?" he yawned ever so slightly. Riza thought for a moment.
"I believe you should get cleaned up, sir, and afterwards I have something of great importance to show you." she told him, keeping up her emotionless facade.
"good idea." he nodded, his formality still taking time to awaken with him. He stood, stretching, and rubbed his face.
He walked towards the door, opened it, and waiting for Hawkeye, before exiting and heading towards the bathrooms. Upon reaching them, Riza took a spot beside the door, as Roy entered.
Hawkeye found herself confused. Left alone, she had time to think. And that could indeed be dangerous. Bald had a grudge against mustang, who wouldn't? So, he was probably going to come after him. What Riza couldn't figure out, was when, or where. Mustang could be in danger. She couldn't allow that to happen. Seeing him blind, vulnerable... That, had hurt her.
The strong man she relied on, vulnerable. It seemed so strange and impossible.
"Hawkeye?" his deep and comforting voice asked, only the smallest amount of concern lacing his voice, but enough for her to sense.
"Oh, yes, I'm fine. Sorry, Sir. " she said, snapping out of her thoughts. He seemed unconvinced, but luckily didn't push the matter. But she knew this wouldn't be the last this subject was discussed.
"What was it you wanted to show me?" he asked, now more awake, his face clean, but his hair slightly damp. She had the strangest urge to run her hands through his hair. She cleared her throat.
"This, sir. " Riza handed him the file she had found earlier, and he took it. His eyes scanned over the words, and his eyebrows knit in confusion.
"Bald?!" Mustang exclaimed after a few moments. "Why haven't I been informed of this earlier?"
"I don't know sir. I just found it on a stack of paper work on my desk. " Riza told him.
Mustang knew what this ment also. Bald wasn't the only person who had a grudge against the military, especially a certain flame alchemist. And of course plenty of Amestrians weren't favorable with the Ishvalans. There where small underground groups that hated the military. And after the whole battle with father and when Briggs attacked, the military was week, and unprepared for any type of uprising that was bound to happen some time.
The corners of Mustangs mouth turned down into a frown, that to Riza was quiet adorable. Why was she thinking such things? there where much more important things at hand. An uprising was possible with Bald in the lead, then getting the Ishvalans back to their home.
"Alright. " Roy said after a moment, straightening his posture and putting on a stern look. "We, lieutenant, are taking this case. We have to find Bald. "
"But colonel, we're supposed to be leaving to Ishval in a few days, all the Ishvalans are gathering so we can move them back home. " Riza inquired. Mustang sighed.
Roy scratched the back of his head, trying to think of some sort of solution. Riza sensed his slight distress.
"Don't worth colonel, you can let someone else handle this until we get back. " She assured.
"Alright then. I guess it couldn't hurt..." He shrugged it off. "well then, what's on the agenda today lieutenant?"
Roy clapped his hands together as he said so. And a small smile grew on Hawkeyes lips. Her feeling strangely happy.

Mustang noticed a change in his subordinate at the end of the day. He wasn't sure what had caused this stranger, and only very slight change in Hawkeyes behavior. It was a small thing, barely even noticeable. But Mustang noticed. After so many years, it was obvious to him, when anyone else wouldn't even realize anything new or off.
One thing was for sure. He was tired. Mentally and physically. His back hurt, he had a knot in his neck from being bent over papers for near sixteen hours, that also counting working all of the past night in the office. His choices where either home or the sleeping quarters, which weren't usually good smelling. He finished up signing the last few papers, then stood, noticing the lieutenants desk empty and clean.
Must have already left. He thought, and felt slightly bummed. Though not sure why.
He went over to the coat rack, grabbing his jacket, and slipping it over his shoulders before leaving the office, and then leaving central command. Tomorrow was a Saturday. His day off. At last a day for himself and whatever else he wanted to do.
Though he had no one in particular to share it with.
