Daniel POV

I was writing down a list of repairs needed on the Grantham's car when I heard the familiar crunch of stones in the path behind Downton, and a black car pulled up to the servant entrance.

"Uncle Thomas, Uncle Thomas!" A familiar little voice shrieked as she walked into the door, hand holding onto her mother's arm.

"What is the meaning of this?" Mr. Carson shouted from the kitchen.

"Oh, I apologize Mr. Carson." Thomas came rushing from the dining area.

"Who is this Mr. Barrow?" Carson looked over to Thomas, obviously stressed out.

"This is my niece, Annabelle, I figured since the family was out again this weekend, then it would not be an issue." Thomas explained, Annabelle struggling against her mother's tight grip in the doorway.

"Where would she stay, she cannot stay with you. She is a young lady." Mrs. Hughes interrupted Carson.

"Miss Annabelle may stay with me, ma'am." Baxter came into the room to join in the conversation.

"Alright. Please check beforehand the next time Mr. Barrow." Mr. Carson replied, and Mrs. Hughhes nodded in agreement.

Annabelle finally broke free of her mother's grasp and ran into Thomas' open arms, squeezing the breath out of him. There were a few "ohs", "awws", and "how cutes" from the maid staff, unuse to this side of Thomas. I noticed Daisy turning to look at Thomas as well, which stirred a feeling of jealousy inside me.

"Uncle Thomas, I missed you!" He lifted Annabelle up and swung her around.

"I missed you too." She had quite a swet of manners, that I will say, because she walked straight over to Carson to say hello. "Hello sir, thank you for letting me stay with my Uncle Thomas."

Carson was caught off guard by little Annabelle. "Why, it was  no trouble young lady." He smiled at the short child.

She noticed me then. "Oh hello, Mr. Daniel!" Annabelle ran over to hug my legs.

"Hello there, little Annabelle. How are you?" I managed to get her off of me, to kneel down at her level.

"I'm good now that I'm here." She stated and Thomas took her little hand.

"We should get you something to eat." Mrs. Patmore said from the kitchen doorway.

"Okay. I am hungry." Annabelle swung Thomas' hand back and forth on their walk to the kitchen.

"She's absolutely precious." Anna said, looking at Mr. Bates.

"Indeed." He replied, arm slung around his wife.

"She has quite the manners as well, I must say." Mr. Carson commented.

"Did you see the way Thomas acted with her? He is quite a man." Daisy dreamily sighed.

The pencil I held in my hand snapped in two, after that remark. I was eginning to really dislike Daisy after all.

"Something wrong Daniel?" Mrs. Bates asked.

"No, I'm fine. Just a little tired, is all." I replied, as I set down the pencil.

I stood up and heard my name being called from the kitchen. "Mr. Daniel!"

I walked in to see little Annabelle at a smaller table in the kitchen. "What's the matter Annabelle?"

"I'm bored and Uncle Thomas had to go to the toilets." I couldn't help but laugh at how straightforward she was.

"Okay, what would you like to do?" I sat at the other side of the table so that I was across from her.

As children often do, she went off to tell me a lengthy explanation"I want to go exploring! I found a book in the library about Lewis and Clark! They're from America, they traveled over 8,000 miles! That's a lot."

"Wow, that sure is quite a long way." I grinned at the excitable girl.

"Do you want to go to America, Mr. Daniel?" She asked.

"Yes, America seems very nice." I responded.

"Could we go for a picnic, then go exploring?" She squirmed in her seat.

"You would have to ask your Uncle Thomas that." I explained, her demeanor unchanging.

"Okay!" I saw her as she ran to the toilets.

"Oh no." I got out of my chair to stop her from opening the door, but luckily Thomas was already out and talking to her.

"Uncle Thomas, Uncle Thomas! Can we go for a picnic? I want to go exploring!" Annabelle grabbed his arm.

"I suppose." He chuckled at his niece. "We can pack your dinner and go outside. Will that make you happy?"

"Yes, yes, and I will be very good. I promise!" She exclaimed. "Can Mr. Daniel come too?"

Thomas looked over to me and I nodded. "I don't see why not."

"Yay!" Annabelle went back to the kitchen to grab the bread and cheese that Mrs. Patmore had given her for dinner.

"Thank you." She hugged a surprised Mrs. Patmore.

We left Downton to walk around the estate. Normally we would not do this, but the family was not home. We settled on a nice shady spot under the trees for the picnic, which ended up only being five minutes, since Annabelle was finished eating in three.

"Let's go exploring! Uncle Thomas can be Lewis, Mr. Daniel can be Clark, and I'll be Sacawea!" She said, mispronouncing the last name.

"I think you mean Sacajewea." I corrected the name.

Annabelle looked at me and giggled. "Oops." She ran ahead of us, and it wasn't worth the energy to catch up to her.

"She's a handful, isn't she?" Thomas said, and smiled at me.

"That is an understatement." I laughed.

"She likes you, though. You're very good with her." We sat on the ground to rest.

"You are amazing with her Thomas. How are you so impeccable with children?" I wondered.

"Well, Katherine is my younger sister, so I had to take care of her on occasion." He explained and laid down on the grass. He patted the spot next to him to signal for me to lay down.

My back hit the grass and I felt Thomas grab my hand and squueze. "I love you, Daniel."

I saw Annabelle come from the forest and she laid down in the space between us, curled up in my side, and as she fell asleep, I whispered, " I love you, Thomas."

So cute <3 I love them so much! IDK if I like the Blimmy spinoff. Should I just write chapters in this one for them? Please comment and vote. Thanks.
