Welcome To Santa Carla
"Naomi, can you get off of your backside and help me carry this into the house?" My dad asked me raising an eyebrow.
"I can't carry that, I'm a tiny little woman and don't have the strength of a man" I dramatically replied.
"Don't have the strength of a man? Wasn't it just last week you offered out a six foot man for looking at you the wrong with?" I awkwardly giggled and nodded.
"He had it coming, he was looking at me funny though, you saw it!" I argued back.
"Get out of the car" I huffed and opened the car door, closing it behind me and running to go help my dad.
We had just moved to a new town, Santa Carla. My dad, Sam Emerson, use to live here back when he was a teenager with my uncle, grandma, and great grandad, who sadly passed on a few years back. He explained to me that they left Santa Carla after a huge problem that almost destroyed the family, he would never go into detail. Whenever I asked he'd simply say 'It's in the past time to move on and forget about it'
The only reason we came back is because my dad got a job here that would financially support the two of us and the house was more affordable. My mom and dad divorced because she decided to cheat, I couldn't understand why. I remember her always complaining that my dad didn't have enough money or never treated her how she deserved to be treated. My dad always tried his hardest to please her, but I realised when I hit 14, the woman was all about money. They both gave me an option after the divorce and I chose my dad. My mom never really was a mother in the first place so the choice was easy.
"Dad you need to hit the gym" I joked, shutting the trunk of the car, earning a playful glare from him.
"Listen. I may not be a strong as I use to be but I still got it. And my charmingly good looks" He pulled a 'magazine boy' pose. I stared at him wide eyed before turning away and into the house. Instantly finding my new room.
My room wasn't big, but not exactly tiny either. It was perfect. The walls were painted white, my dad had hand painted different patterns in black on one wall. I had a double bed, a closet for my clothes and a small desk for my gadgets to go on. All I had to do was add my stuff and it would be complete. I looked around the room and smiled before unpacking.
I slumped down onto the sofa and grabbed the remote, surfing through the channels to find something decent to watch.
"Finish Naomi?" My dad asked, entering the living room. I nodded and gave a small smile.
"What's for lunch?"
"Well for now make yourself a sandwich. I'll go food shopping a little later to get more stuff in" he told me before sitting next to me.
"I'll come with you if you like?" I insisted.
"Would you? It would be a big help" I nodded and he pulled me into a tight hug. My dad and I had the typical 'father daughter bond'.
"Oh by the way, your grandmother called. Would you do me a favour and give her a call back at some point, she really wanted to speak to you" he told me.
"Yeah sure!" I answered. I got up and walked towards the kitchen to fix myself a sandwich.

A few hours had passed, me and my dad had finished our food shopping. I never really like doing shopping like that, it took too long in my opinion, but I couldn't let him do it alone. When we got back into the car, he told me he wanted to visit some old friends of his. I didn't mind, I just had no idea he still knew anyone around here. He informed me that they owned a comic book store...well I say owed but they still do. Which I thought was weird but hey ho right? Everyone has a hobby. Their names were Edgar and Alan Frog. I couldn't help but giggle hearing their last name, my dad too snickered. I knew I'd have to keep it together when meeting them. No doubt, they'd introduce themselves to me.
"Here we are!" We both climbed out of the car and walked into the store. Two men approached us. I became shy and hid behind my dad.
"SAM" The shorter one of the two shouted, pulling my dad into a brotherly hug.
"I see you still have the 'George Michael took going on' The taller one chimed in. His voice extremely deep.
"That's right! I see you're still trying to rock the Rambo look though" my dad fired back causing the three of them to laugh.
"Are you going to introduce us?"Edgar asked, looking over my dad's shoulder to get a glimpse of me.
"Aaa yes! Edgar, Alan. This is my daughter Naomi" My dad pushed me forward and I gave the brothers an awkward wave.
"Hello there, my name is Alan" Alan introduced himself, shaking my hand.
"And I'm Edgar" I then shook Edgar's hand. I took in his attire and gave him a funny look.
"I hope you don't mind but You know the 80's ended years ago right?" I asked awkwardly. I watched Alan cover his mouth to stop himself from laughing, my dad gave a fake cough, doing the same.
"Well Naomi, I dress like this because it's my signature look and I feel comfortable in this" He paused. "Now why do you wear your top so short?" Edgar questioned. I glared and he snickered.
"Have you shown her the boardwalk yet?" Alan curiously asked my dad.
"Not yet, she wants to see it later" My dad answered bluntly.
"At night?" Edgar questioned, looking at my dad as if he was crazy.
"Don't worry I'll make sure to keep a close eye on her!" He defended.
"I don't think that's a good idea. It's not safe Sam and you know that!" Edgar spat. I looked back and forth at the two of them in confusion. It seemed as though they were communicating with their eyes. I found it extremely strange.
"Why would it not be safe?" I asked. I couldn't help it. All three of them turned their attention to me.
"Naomi go wait in the car please" I opened my mouth to object but my dad raised his hand, signalling for me not to talk.
I rolled my eyes and walked out of the comic book store. I went to open the car door, but a board full of missing people posters caught my eye. I left the car and went over to get a closer look. It was full of missing children, Adults and elderly people. There was so many. My heart ached, seeing some had been missing for over a year. I heard sobbing from behind me. I turned and saw a woman with a handful of papers. I watched her hang one up on the board. Really, another missing person?! The picture was of a little girl, I assumed to be her daughter. She looked over at me, tears streaming down her face. I shot her an apologetic smile.
"I hope you find her" I tried my best to comfort her. She gave me a sweet smile through her cries.
"Thank you" she replied. "You will keep an eye out for her won't you?"
"Of course I will" I reassured her. She smiled and hugged me before handing me a poster and walking away.
I headed back to the car and sat inside, waiting for my dad
