fin.
Luhan woke up, his head pounding and dead weight on his stomach. Blinking his eyes a few times, he saw sunshine pouring through his window. It hit him that it was incredibly hot in the house. Shoving a messy haired Chen off him, he pushed himself to his feet, regaining his balance when the world revolved around him
He peered to where the clock was and was surprised to see it was past noon. Just how late did they all drink last night? Luhan only started the drinking session because today would be Sehun’s birthday, and he wanted to loosen his little brother up.
As he stood there, he couldn’t remember what happened last night. The only image he got was all the others laughing, but that’s about it. Looking down, vodka and beer bottles lay everywhere on the floor, and he sighed knowing he’ll order everyone to clean up their mess.
Then he noticed something.
It's past noon.
Usually Sehun would be out, preparing lunch for both of them in silence, and the others if they’re here. But he smelled nothing coming from the kitchen. Luhan walked out of the living and peered into the kitchen. No Sehun.
Must have slept in. Luhan thought nonchalantly. He shrugged and returned to the living room, kicking and shoving everyone to wake them up. Their response to his abuse was groans, but the only one to sleep through the pain was Chanyeol. That boy surely can sleep after a party.
After about an hour or two, the living room, dining room, and kitchen were spotless. It made Luhan glad that his friends had no problem cleaning up their mess, and were even willing enough to do it without Luhan yelling at them to. Maybe a little yelling at Kai and Tao, but that’s about it.
“Where’s Sehunnie?” Chanyeol asked with a frown on his face. “He hasn’t made lunch like usual.”
“I’ll make lunch, its okay.” Kyungsoo offered, already heading towards the kitchen.
Suho scratched the back of his head, “Maybe he’s too embarrassed to come out?”
“Probably.” Luhan agreed a little quietly. It is a bit weird though. Sehun usually comes out to make sure there’s food for everyone, all the time. Today is the first time he has done any of his usual service.
“Well, uh—“ Kris opened his mouth but stopped abruptly, looking away. Everyone gave him curious glances, some even suspicious. Luhan crossed his arms and walked up the handsome English-Chinese fluent giant.
“Well, what?” Luhan asked him in a flat voice.
“You really don’t remember what you said last night?” Kris responded to him in a quiet voice, seeming a little taken back.
“No?”
“Then it’s not worth repeating, seeming as everyone else here doesn’t remember.” The dark and short haired giant shrugged. “Just go check on him if you’re so worried. You’re his hyung.”
“We’re not brothers.” Luhan quickly snapped. That day replayed in his mind and anger, sadness, and madness boiled up within him. Sure, he doesn’t mind that Sehun plays the good little brother, but he will never forgive him for letting their parents die. Why did he live, and have Luhan do all the dirty work? Thank goodness for their wealthy inheritance.
“You are his brother.” Baekhyun shoved him. “No go.”
Luhan brushed him off, “Fine, fine.”
Sighing, Luhan started walking out of the living room, turning the corner until the wide pretty hallway appeared. On one wall, was a nice collage of him, Mom, Dad, and Sehun. On the other wall, were just trophies he and Sehun won when they were in sports together. After their death, Sehun stopped sports completely. Luhan didn’t mind it though.
The blonde haired hyung stopped in front of his little brother’s door and knocked loudly three times. He waited a few seconds, but there was no response. Luhan knocked more, but still no response. Down the hall, he heard the others come this way in curiosity.
“Sehun?” Luhan called out. The name felt weird coming out his mouth. He hasn’t spoken his name in, well—forever.
No response.
“Don’t ignore me, open up.”
No response.
“Well, okay. Just don’t get mad at me for entering.” Luhan turned the knob and opened his door, stopping dead in his tracks when an ice cold breeze hit his skin. Goosebumps rose on his arms and he felt a little scared. Shaking his head, Luhan frowned. A cold room and there’s no light? Luhan entered the room and flipped the light switch.
On the bed, lay Sehun. He was curled into a ball under his thick comforter. Sehun was facing away from him, but judging from the stillness, he must be deep in his sleep.
However, Luhan had a weird feeling in his gut. Something didn’t feel right. It’s nearly five in the evening and Sehun hasn’t budged out of bed. The hyung began to walk towards Sehun, taking notice that the others were outside of his bedroom watching with wide eyes. Luhan leaned forward, pressing his hand firmly against his blanket that was draped over this shoulder and shook him roughly. However, Sehun was really limp and showed no response.
“Sehun?” Luhan whispered. “Wake up. It’s almost evening.”
The little brother didn’t budge.
Luhan tilted his head. He at least knew Sehun was ticklish.
The hyung gripped the blanket tightly and threw it off him, sending it flying behind him. There was a catching sound behind him, and Luhan glanced behind to see Kai and Baekhyun right behind him. Yixing was by his side, gazing at Sehun with a serious look.
“Why does Sehun… look so pale?”
Luhan turned back to the motionless Sehun. He leaned over him and saw a paper limply clenched in his hand. Worry washed over Luhan. Something definitely isn’t right.
He reached over Sehun, beginning to take the paper, but his hand brushed over Sehun’s skin and he froze instantly. Sehun’s skin was ice cold—not warm. It was so cold, that it shocked him and froze Luhan in place.
“H-He’s cold.” Luhan choked. The hyung forgot about the paper and began to put two fingers against the edge of his throat for his pulse. Sehun was incredibly cold—and there was no pulse.
Panic washed all over Luhan. “He can’t be.” Luhan spoke in a loud voice. He began to shake him crazily, but all he got was nothing. Something broke within Luhan and he almost forgot how to breathe. The others backed away, scared.
“No, no, no, no, no.” Luhan repeated the word as he continued to shake Sehun, but the little brother showed no signs of waking up. His eyes were closed, skin was cold, and he was absolutely motionless. Heaving, Luhan remembered about the paper and instantly grabbed it, squinting his eyes so he can read through his blurry vision
Dear hyung.
All I wanted was your attention, your brotherly love that I craved for all my life. I was lonely every day. It felt like knives were thrown into my heart every day. For years, I would cry myself to sleep because of how harshly you criticized me for Mom’s and Dad’s death. I was scared. I was scared to go against you. Even though I knew you hated me, I always loved you hyung. During these last moments of my life, I knew you worked hard to take care of me. You never realized it, but you did. No people picked on me because of you. But I hope you’re happier now, Luhan hyung. You won’t be living with a murderer anymore, so I hope you are at peace. I hope you continue to live with a breath of relief. I’ll meet you up there with Mom and Dad.
Bye hyung, remember to smile
Sehun
Luhan crumpled to the floor, clutching the last remnants of his little brother. Tears spilled from his eyes, knowing why he would have done this. He felt everything around him disappear and fade away in the distance; the only person in his world right now was Sehun—dead.
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry Sehun.” Luhan broke out into uncontrollable sobs. “I’m so sorry.”
Lay watched Luhan sit alone, curling himself into a ball, staring into nothing. He didn’t talk to anyone, only moved when necessary, but completely isolated himself from the others. Everyone gave up trying to have him speak, but they understood why. Luhan is now blaming himself for Sehun taking his life.
The doctor reported that he has been dead for the past six hours due to a drug overdose, so chances of reviving of him have been redeemed impossible. All Luhan did was nod and stood up, walking like a zombie. He had a ghostly expression as Suho escorted him out, saying he’ll be the one to care for him for the time being. Because Luhan has no family left, Suho and his family offered to prepare burial services. Luhan reluctantly agreed with a tight nod.
A few weeks later, Luhan took his life as well. The entire family has been wiped from existence. With months of recovery, their friends finally held their heads up high and proudly keep their names alive. Although they died so young with reasons half-unknown, every single one of them made sure they didn’t go forgotten. As years passed, Baekhyun and Chanyeol named their sons after them, and in surprise.
They were exactly like the HunHan they knew when they were just teenagers.
“It’s nice to have you by my side once again hyung.”
“I missed you, little brother. Don’t leave me like that again.”
There was an angelic laugh and a beautiful, heavenly smile. “We’ll stick together from now on, okay?”
“Always.”
