BFF
While Brett and his dad played one-on-one basketball, Blue talked with Julia and Tita Belinda at the terrace. As expected, the topic of conversation was each other's love stories.
"Some of the greatest romances are of those between people passing through the inevitable test of time." Tita Belinda said. "My Joey there, we've been through so much that I couldn't refuse him the day he proposed to marry me."
She was equally enthusiastic talking about Brett's dad as she was when showcasing her figurines. "We were in this very fancy restaurant and he hired violinists to play this tune for me while he gave me this ring," she continued, showing them the huge diamond ring she was wearing. "I can't remember all of it, but as far as I can recall, it was Till there was you by the Beatles the band played for me."
Now I know where Brett learned his moves, Blue thought.
"So, how about you, my dear, how's life?" Tita Belinda turned to Julia.
"Oh." Julia jumped a bit from her seat. "Mine is a bit depressing. I am separated with no kids. Well, we just couldn't be at peace with each other. My... ah... ex is an artist. But I'd rather call him a painter. We just couldn't get along because of such differences."
"Like what, house chores?"
"No, the house bills. Everything that has to do about money. He makes no money in his chosen field, and that brings the conflict," Julia said.
"But you loved him?" Tita Belinda continued to ask.
"What?" Julia was taken aback.
"I said, but did you love him?" she repeated.
Julia looked down as she tried to fight back the tears. "Y-yes... I loved him. I have loved him more than anyone else," she admitted.
The old woman gazed at her for some time. She enjoyed putting people on the spot. "You still love him, do you?"
"Yes."
"Well, if you do, then what are you doing here without him?"
Julia began to cry. Blue sat beside her and consoled her.
"It's never too late, honey," she said. "Now, please excuse me. I'll just go on inside to check if the chicken is ready."
------
"Now, that's rude," Blue said. "But she's right, Julia."
"I agree on both statements." Julia was still her witty self.
"What do you want to do now?" Blue asked.
"We'll see," Julia whispered.
"I missed you, Julia. You just take care of yourself and do what you think is best for you."
"I missed you too, Blue." Julia said in between sobs. "I promise you I'll take care of this thing."
