Marinette did the move as slowly as she could. She could see the younger girls copy her movement in the mirror. Her students were trying their best and the ballet instructor found it adorable. She heard the last song on her Adrien disc begin to fade and she quickly wrapped up the practice. The sweet girls were packing up and talking among themselves. Marinette quickly passed out papers to the older girls who were participating in auditions for dance schools. She gave her entire class candies like she usually did and told them what she expected for the next practice. The future dancers ran out into the lobby to greet their parents. Anastasia sat at the counter, her brown hair laid on her shoulder in a loose ponytail. Marinette settled beside her as she watched her students joke around. The two women waved until the studio was quiet and empty again.
Marinette looked at Anastasia who had a proud smiled displayed on her lips, her green eyes were sparkling. "How's Adrien?" The older woman asked knowingly and the ballerina blushed.
"He's well..." Marinette trailed off. A blush becoming prominent against her pale skin. Anastasia nodded and rolled her eyes.
"Alya told me about what happened last night." The older woman raised her eyebrow as Marinette's face began to heat up. She mentally cursed Alya but was too embarrassed to think of a plan to exact her revenge.
"We're just friends!" Marinette said quickly like she was defending herself for some reason. Anastasia only hummed.
"I've been 'just friends' with people before." Her words made the younger girl blush even harder for some reason.
"All he's doing is teaching me some piano and I'm teaching him some dance." Marinette fanned her face to calm the blush. "Nothing more."
Anastasia smiled. "I can tutor you in piano so that you can surprise him," she said and put her blue bookmark in the spot where she stopped.
"You play?" Marinette asked. She was surprised at the sudden fact. Anastasia wasn't usually this open with her.
"Used to. Past tense but yes, I used to play." The older woman nodded. Marinette hung onto every word like she was scared that they would disappear into thin air. "It's been a long time since I last played." She smiled sadly. For some reason, the gesture made Marinette sad as well.
"Well I would love for you to teach me, I'll think of it as payback for all belly dancing lessons." Marinette stuck her tongue out at Anastasia who rolled her eyes.
"Yeah, we'll think of it like that." She gave a loose grin and headed to the back of the studio. Marinette kicked her legs in front of her. Her socks had faint spots decorating the fabric. She heard the bell chime, signally someone coming in. She sat up straight and called a greeting. They usually didn't get many visitors besides the girls already enrolled so she thought that Poppy forgot her books again.
The ballerina forgot how to breathe when Gabriel Agreste stood in front of her. Marinette couldn't even squeak she was so terrified. She gulped and gave him a warm but shaky welcome. He barely acknowledged her and produced an index card from his pocket. "I would like to speak with the director of your company." Marinette nodded, unable to do anything else.
"She's in the back... I'll go get her." Gabriel seemed to accept her answer as he stood quietly yet stiffly. Marinette hurried away finally finding her breath when she was met with the familiar hall.
"Anastasia," Marinette called timidly. She stood at the door. The older woman looked up from sorting her mail. "Gabriel Agreste is here to speak with you..." Marinette swore that she saw a flash of panic set in her friend's eyes.
"I'll be out in a minute." She nodded to herself and began rummaging through her drawers. She suddenly took her hair out of the band and let it rest naturally. Marinette left the flustered Anastasia getting ready and walked back out. She engaged small talk with her idol which was awkward, to say the least. The entire time she prayed for Anastasia to hurry.
When she finally arrived, Marinette noticed something odd. Her eyes were suddenly blue. It was a pretty light blue but it was so different from the comforting green that she was used to seeing.
Marinette was confused, of course, but didn't let a word slip past her lips. She knew that Anastasia was wearing colored contacts but her mind swirled with all the reasons why. All of her ideas and theories made her head hurt and she could barely keep up with the conversation that was happening in front of her. Why was Anastasia trying to hide all these things from Gabriel?
The two seemed to agree on something before he gave a formal goodbye to the young dancer. The door chime signaled his departure and both women let out sighs as the atmosphere suddenly lifted since he was no longer in the building. Marinette let her eyes linger on the woman beside her. "What was that all about?" Marinette tried to not think about the blue contacts.
Anastasia shrugged. "I guess because I'm a company that he doesn't usually work with. He asked formally for you to work in his ballet." She gave a tired smile to Marinette. "He also said that he would be buying your pointe shoes from now until the last showing of Miraculous." Marinette nodded but still was distracted by the light blue color of her eyes. "Anything else?" Anastasia said and busied herself with organizing the pens.
"Yeah... Why the blue contacts?" she asked curiously.
Anastasia stiffened and blinked twice before answering. "I used to know that man before but then he became something I didn't recognize..." she said quietly. "Our secret okay?" She said seriously. Marinette nodded but for some reason that wasn't enough. "Promise me," Anastasia added.
"I promise you," Marinette swore. "I promise."
