"Think you got enough?" Steve muttered resentfully as the nurse took our blood. They were taking large amounts of blood out of both of us. We were sitting in the doctor's office.

"Any hope of reproducing the program," Peggy reassured. "Is locked in your genetic code. But without Dr. Erskine, it would take years." She glanced at me in pity. I avoided her gaze, turning my attention to where they had taken the blood. She knew how much I respected and looked up to him. Steve let out a sigh

"He deserved more than this." Steve said, looking straight ahead. He was right. He did.
"If it could work only once, he'd be proud it was both of you." Peggy said before turning her attention back to her clipboard. Steve glanced at me and we held eye contact for a little while before we turned away in unison.

"Colonel Phillips," Brandt barked. "My committee is demanding answers!"
"Great! Why don't we start with how a German spy got a ride to my secret installation in your car?" The Colonel retorted. "What have we got here?" he stops in front of Howard.

"Speaking modestly, I'm the best mechanical engineer in this country." he bragged. "But I don't know what's inside this thing or how it works." he turned serious. Which was rare for Stark. "We're not even close to this technology." he marvelled.

"Then who is?"Brandt questioned.
"Hydra." Colonel stated as a matter of factly. "I'm sure you've been reading our briefings."
"I'm on a number of committees, Colonel." Brandt narrowed his eyes at him.

"Hydra is the Nazi deep-science division." Peggy and I walked in, Steve following closely behind.
"It's led by Johann Schmidt." I recoiled in disgust as I spoke his name, "But he has much bigger ambitions."
"Hydra is practically a cult." Colonel added. "They worship Schmidt. They think he's invincible."
"So, what are you gonna do about it?" Brandt rudely asked.

"I spoke to the President this morning." I'm surprised at how calm Colonel was being. "As of today, the SSR is being retasked." he walked over to Peggy and I. I was shocked and I could tell Peggy was too. Retasked?
"Colonel?" I muttered.
"We are taking the fight to Hydra. Pack your bags, Agents." he looked back at Howard who was cleaning and examining the submarine. "You too, Stark. We're flying to London tonight." Peggy and I shared a look of dread.

"Sir? If you're going after Schmidt, I want in." Steve demanded, stepping forward.
"You're an experiment." Colonel replied.
"Colonel, so am I." I spoke up in his defense.
"You're going to Alamogordo." He ignored me.
Steve sighed. He glanced at us helplessly.

"I asked for an army and all I got was you." he said, resentfully. I scoffed in anger. "You are not enough." He stalked away.
"Is he just going to pretend that I didn't get the serum too?" I looked at Peg in exasperation. Then turned to Steve, only to be met by sorrow. He turned away slightly, refusing to make eye contact with me.

"With all due respect to the Colonel." Brandt stepped up to Steve. "I think we may be missing the point. I've seen you in action, Steve! More importantly, the country has seen it." Here they go pretending I didn't exist again.

"I'm sorry. Am I not in the room, Peg?" I muttered, looking at Peg. She smiled slightly in amusement.
"Paper!" he demanded from the man that walked in with him.
"Scissors." I mumbled.
"The enlistment lines have been around the block since your picture hit the newsstands."
I moved beside Steve to see the headlines. It said "Nazis in New York. Mystery Man and Woman Saves Child."

"You don't take a soldier, a symbol like that, and hide him in a lab." he continued. He placed a hand on his shoulder. "Son, do you want to serve your country? On the most important battlefield of the war?"

"That's all I want." Steve said. He seemed determined to help in the war but I don't think him and Brandt were thinking the same thing.
"Then, congratulations. You just got promoted." Brandt declared proudly. They shook hands as if making a deal. Steve grinned in excitement. Oh dear.
