They told us about the explosion. Apparently, Howard was being dumb and he was being careless with the stuff we brought back from HYDRA. The blue shiny thing had caused an explosion which shattered the glass and hurt some men.

I was supposed to meet Steve to see Howard but I was running a little late. I told him to go ahead and walked down with Peggy instead. We made our way through to the bookshelf. I turned the corner, laughing at a joke Peggy said. I was barely listening since I wanted to see Steve again.

But as soon as I took another step I was met with Steve and the blonde girl from earlier. Shoving each other's tongues down the other's throats. I paused in shock and hurt, unable to say anything but a small,
"Oh."

"Captain!" Peggy shouted, causing me to startle too. I looked at Steve once to see his face fall and then not again. I glanced away at Peggy hoping to erase that from my mind forever. It was my fault. My fault for liking him. I fought back tears, not wanting Peggy to kill him or for Steve to see me. "We're ready for you. If you're not otherwise... occupied." she trilled. She seemed angry enough for both of us. She stomped away, grabbing my hand and pulling me along. Steve wiped the lipstick off his lips and rushed after us.

"Agent Carter. Cynthia, wait." Steve hurried. I ignored his plea and kept walking.
"Looks like finding a partner wasn't that hard after all." Peggy mused with disgust.
"Maybe you should take her dancing." I suggested bitterly.
"Cynthia, that's not what you thought it was." Steve tried to reason. I scoffed.
"I don't think anything, Captain, not one thing." I retorted.
"You always wanted to be a soldier and now you are," Peggy smiled fakely. "Just like all the rest." She squeezed my hand reassuringly.

"Well what about you and Stark." Steve demanded, causing me to turn around. I met his eyes. "How do I know you two haven't been fondue-ing." I sighed, rubbing my temple. He thought THAT'S what fondue-ing meant? Peggy looked at him in exasperation.

"You still don't know a bloody thing about women." she rolled her eyes before pulling me alongside her through the guarded doors. Steve was left standing there in confusion.
