Chapter forty-three

Katherine's POV

**

"Dad?"

"Yes?"

"Can I have a talk with you?" I stood by the door way peeping into his study room hoping he'd say no.

I promised Lavi that I would speak with him before he finds out from another source. Am grateful that obi hasn't rated out on me.

"C'mon in kitty. I'm almost done here anyways" waving me in.

I stroll in,one foot at a time and stopped an inch from him.

"Are you okay?" Raising his brow to look at me through the lamp stand.

"I uhm. .. Have been meaning to tell you something dad" I shuttered inwardly.

"It's must be something bad cos you look terrible" he reasoned taking off his reading glasses.

"I uhm...." I got caught off by his ring tone before I could finish my sentence.

Damn!

"Sorry! I have to answer this" holding up a finger

"Okay!" Breathing out!

I waited with my heart in my throat as he placed the phone on his ear.

"Hello?" He answered!

"Yes speaking"...." This is him speaking! Who is asking? " he spoke onto the receiver.

"Okay am listening!" He nodded attentively... "Yes she is my daughter"

Oh no no no.....

I'm dead!

"She is what?" He practically screamed into the receiver!...."no no lady. They must be a misunderstanding of some sort" he argued frantically.

Oh God!

That must be the staff nurse from hell.

"Can I call you back?" He finally gave up.

My expression fell to the ground as his eyes settled upon my trembling one. I grabbed nervously at my mom's locket looking for strength as he walked towards me with that cold and calculated expression and stood a breath from me.

"Look at me" he ordered!

"Are you by any means pregnant?" His voice low and deadly.

"I was going to tell you" I murmured while blinking back a tear.

"Tell me what?"

"That am..am pregnant!" Looking up at him at last.

Boom!

His phone went crashing against the hard wall before his head snapped back at me again.

"You're what?" He sneered.

"How the hell did you get yourself pregnant!" His baritone voice had added another bass and it was ringing through my ears like a beating drum.

I stumbled backward and fell into the cushion seating behind me. Aunt Nene rushed in through the door and stood right in front of me, obviously in an attempt to shield me from my raging father's wrath.

He by passed her and launched after me again but ran into her body mid way.

"I asked you a question young lady. So start talking before I do something I might regret" he roared.

"Something like what dad? Are you going to hit me? Kill me? Well go and do it. Maybe that will save me from the pain I feel on the inside" I yelled back launching myself at him as I challenged him like a lunatic. Aunt Nene mouth was agape staring at me. I bet she didn't see that coming.

"Oh no young lady! You don't get to cry or put me on the defensive just yet so don't push your luck! Who the hell got you pregnant Katherine Joseph Benjamin" he demanded yet again with a louder roar and I involuntarily flinch back with fear and aunt Nene resume her position in front of me yet again.

Blast!

She looked scared, confused even but she still stood her ground against my dad raging storm.

"Calm down sir,please I beg you or you're going to hurt her. Please let me talk to her" she begged!

"Stay out of this lady. She has to tell me who did that to her" pointing at me.... " she is my daughter don't you get it?"

She looked at me and back at my dad's unmovable feature and pleaded yet again.

"I understand you sir but look at her. She is obviously scared and you might hurt her if you keep this up. Please just listen to me this once I beg of you"

He looked at her and threw a disgusted one at me before storming out.

I grumbled to my knees as I continued to cry my eyes out. My dad is pained because of me. I single handedly ruined everyone lives and mine included. I caused all of these with my one mistake.

Aunt Nene picked me from the floor and held me by the shoulder as she led me back to my room. she continued to rock me back and forth in her arms as she held me close on the bed.

I could still hear my dad throwing things around in the living room in a fit of rage.

He is taking it better than I had imagined!

"You have to calm down now my dear" shushing me

"I'm so sorry aunt..I never meant for any of these to happen" I cried even more.

"I know you didn't. Just calm down before you get sick"

Getting sick is the least of my problems right now. I just want to die!

"I don't care if I die even. My dad will kill me anyways?"

"No no please don't say that! Your father is just upset and he has every right to so get that stupid idea out of your head right this minute"

"I ruined everything aunt don't you get it?"

"You made a mistake Kate! Everyone does because no one is perfect so don't hang yourself because of that. Even your dad has made mistakes too. I'm sure of that as well so wipe your tears and be strong" she spoke with a new kind of confidence.

"How come you are not even mad at me aunt?" Wiping my tears with the back of my hands

"I too was a young girl dear and I made a lot of mistakes too so how can I not understand your pain. Instead of scolding you and getting upset. I should be taking care of you my child" hugging me even closer.

"It's that boy isn't it?" She asked in a whisper.

"I love him aunt and he does me too"

"Have you told him yet?"

"Yes and he is just as confused and worried as I am but he is also willing to support me aunt" I smiled

"I always knew he was a good one and might own up to his mistakes as well" she replied with her own encouraging smile.

Aunt Nene might not be my mom but am grateful she is here with me right now. I need her now more than ever. I held on to her tighter with my eyes close.

I got through this day. Let see what tomorrow brings!
