~key ingredient
Chapter eleven
Katherine's POV
**
And yes! It was too damn late to have a change of mind concerning my birthday so here I am listening with horror as my dad so gladly announced to aunt Nene that I was soon going to be seventeen and a party is going to be organized.
"Hell"
And as presumed. Aunt Nene was thrilled about the whole arrangement and immediately had a pen in one hand and a paper in another as she note down items to buy.
Someone please stop call 911
She went over the list for the third time and her brow furrowed in confusion as she stared at me. I bet she has realized the key ingredient to a proper birthday was missing.
More hell...
"How come no one made mentioned of a cake? Or did I forget to jot it down!" Her eyes darting between my dad and I.
"No you didn't" my dad had replied.
"I didn't? So how come they won't be a cake?" She asked yet again.
"She doesn't want a cake for her birthday so we're gonna skip that one" he shrugged
Her face got more confused than the latter as she shuttered.
"S-she doesn't want a cake for her birthday? I mean why not? Because I can't think of anyone celebrating his/her birthday or any anniversary for that matter without a cake"
My dad said nothing in reply as his eyes darted between aunt Nene and back at me. There was silence for a considerable amount of abnormal minute until aunt Nene spoke again.
"Tell me something Kate dear. Are you sure you really don't want a cake for your birthday?"
I gave a nod instead and she nodded in reply.
"Okay but can I ask why?" She asked again ducking her head until it was in the same level as mine.
I shook my head slightly indicating a no.
"Alright you don't have to talk about it if you don't want to but is they something else you don't want perhaps?" She asked again.
"Everything else is fine. Just the cake and candles is what I don't want" I replied not sure if she needed that last detail or not.
Shessh
"That's alright my dear but if I may ask. Do you have a problem with cakes or is it with the candles on the cake that bothers you"
To be honest, I wouldn't mind a birthday cake that much but the thought of blowing out flames while wishing on it is the real problem here so I rather not have both.
"Both" I replied.
"Okay then but what if we are to arrive at some sort of compromise" she argued further.
"What kinda?"
"Uhm how about we have cakes without candles?"
I really hate to disagree with aunt Nene any further but mehn how do I get out of this one now?
"We can have cup cakes.. I bet my friends will love it" I said.
She gave me a wide smile after as she quickly noted it down.
"Now we are talking" my dad had chip in indicating his forgotten presence in the living room...
.
.
.
The whole of that day couldn't be any worst. We ended up shopping for all the items at shop rite and I was exhausted when we got back home.
After taking a quick shower. I rang obi who had picked on the first ring. He was way happier than I thought he'd be when I told him about my upcoming birthday party. He even promise to invite some of his friends and our classmates from school as well. He happens to be the group member so sending out invite would be much easier.
The thought of Lavi has been crossing my mind every now and then even though I haven't spoken with him since vacation. He has tried to reach me countless time and I have always ignore his calls and messages like a plaque.
I wonder if I should invite him or not. What good will that do anyways? It'd be better if he doesn't come around but I doubt if he won't show up on that day. He might be a group member as well.
The thought alone is giving me sleepless night as I can't stop tossing and turning as I lay awake in my bed.
Why can't I just ditch this birthday like I have been doing for the past years now. That's so much easier than having all these anxiety about who could be coming or not..
