11|Shades of Daniel

The day came for Lilly's procedure, which involved the implantation of the harvested embryo into her uterus. Luckily for the couple, they had received information prior to today, informing them that a few egg were fertilized and so they would continue with the remaining procedures. All seemed jolly - Lilly, Faith and Daniel - as they entered the building; Faith's hand latched in Daniel's as they both smiled at each other.

While they waited for the Doctor to attend to them, they all sat, talking about everything that came to mind. Lilly claimed she was nervous but the smile she was sporting did not give such impression. Faith on the other hand, was feeling sweaty, her hands gone clammy while her heart could no longer sustain a normalized beat. She managed to laugh at the jokes she got from her companions but really wished things would be over with.

"So Silas is coming home in a couple of months. I wonder how he'll react after knowing all this," Lilly exclaimed when silence threatened to make itself known.

Both heads shifted in her direction. "Who's Silas?" Faith and Daniel both asked in unison, gazes skeptical.

Lilly's mouth fell open. "Oh, didn't I tell you guys?" she asked blankly, looking apologetic. "He's my boyfriend."

"Boyfriend?" Faith blurted disbelievingly. "You have a boyfriend?"

Lilly swallowed. "Oh is that a problem. I swear, it slipped my mind and I didn't think it would pose a problem," she said looking at the two surprised persons.

Faith glanced at Daniel before she vigorously shook her head, the action evidence of how she felt. "It's no problem at all, just took me a bit by surprise is all, right Daniel?"

Daniel shrugged, a smile gracing his face. "No problem at all. I just hope he's a good person."

Lilly smiled sweetly, relief gracing her face. "He is and he is actually in Canada doing the ground breaking for another business he plans to set up," she informed, pride in every syllable of the words she spoke.

"That's great," Faith said. "When did you say he'll be back?" She was curious to know if this man would be back in time to cause any possible trouble, especially on the basis that he had no knowledge of the drastic changes that had taken place in his girlfriend's life. And Faith had no knowledge of whom he really was.

"Maybe in a few months, I'm not so sure," she glanced at Faith and must have seen the look on her face. She continued. "But I assure you, he'll be absolutely fine with it so don't worry," she smiled and Faith smiled back.

"Hmm."

A lengthy silence passed between them before a man in a lab coat approached with a clipboard in hand and a smile on his face.

They greeted each other until the Doctor directed them into a room, Daniel deciding to wait outside.

Kaylyn hissed sharply, honking frustratingly at the car before her who wasn't moving ahead - or at least not as quickly as she wanted it to. She was in desperate need to arrive at the clinic to be there for Faith like she said she would, but with two young children, Kaylyn found that being on time didn't usually come as easy.

She wished she could tell Faith about the devious look she had seen on Daniel's face earlier, but she knew her best friend wouldn't believe a word she said especially since she knew Kaylyn wasn't particularly fond of Daniel.

She told herself the whole thing had been wrong from the start - well Daniel at least - and while she had fought with the urge to prove herself wrong, Daniel's behavior distinctly told her she was right about him all along. She didn't want to hurt her friend and jeopardise her chances of getting the child she wanted so much, but wouldn't it be even worse in the long run?

Kaylyn felt conflicted and uneasy with the thoughts that were swimming through her head and was seemingly drowning her in the process. She just wanted a simple alternative that she could go with but quite frankly, she was stuck.

She had planned on informing Matthew about the matter to get his opinion but once again time prove itself to be, not always right. She also considered getting Jason's opinion but that was a big maybe. However, if desperation won out, she'd have no choice.

Kaylyn sighed heavily as she swerved the car into an empty parking slot. She turned off the engine, grabbed her purse and briskly walked into the building, hoping to catch Faith before Lilly's procedure would begin.

Her eyes surveyed every crevice of the interior until her eyes met up with her least favorite person - Daniel.

Now with a blazing heart that now seemed to pump fire more than it did blood, Kaylyn determinedly walked towards him, her face grim.

Daniel smiled when he saw her approaching him.

"Where's Faith?" She stiffly asked.

"Well hello to you too Kaylyn," he rose a brow. "My, you look mighty tired, I can only imagine the strain those kids are putting on you."

Kaylyn shook her head and scoffed. "You know, I always had my doubt's about you, so I can't really say this has come as a surprise."

He glanced at her blankly. "I'm afraid I don't know what you are talking about-"

"You damn well know what I'm talking about!" Kaylyn hissed between tightly clenched teeth.

"Well you'll have to excuse me for being utterly ignorant because I'm clueless," he made a pitiful face, then shrugged.

Kaylyn clenched her jaw and took a step closer towards him, staring up at his towering height but not the least intimidated by his size. "You can continue to play dumb - it suits you - but I'm telling you, if you dare try to hurt my friend, I'll make it my mission to destroy you!" Kaylyn seethed, jabbing her finger in Daniel's chest.

He only laughed. "And what will you do? Tell Faith that I'm not right for her, like you were about to before I walked in on you two?" He cocked a challenging brow.

Kaylyn sucked in a breath, realizing he had overheard her earlier conversation with Faith.

Daniel tsked.

"Lilly could be pregnant as we speak. What are you gonna do bestie? Give Faith a reason to hate you, because she'll never believe you to me," he winked and then he stepped past Kaylyn, leaving her completely frazzled.

But she quickly regained her composure and grabbed his arm, putting him at a halt. He slowly turned, eyes shooting daggers. "I'm warning you," she exclaimed with enough conviction to get her words firmly across.

He gave a smile that sent immediate chills down kaylyn's body. "Strong bark, I wonder if your bite is just as effective."

He tugged his hand from kaylyn's hold and attempted to leave once more but then suddenly, Faith exited a room, a smile on her face.

Kaylyn quickly approached to get feedback as well as to welcome her, but Daniel was already doing the honors. Kaylyn paused in her tracks, watching the scene unfold.

"Hey baby, how was it?" he asked, a loving smile on his face, the complete opposite of what he had given Kaylyn.

"You should have been there," Faith beamed. "It went well."

"Oh good. I was waiting on an important call-"

"Did you get it?" she queried.

"Yeah, yeah," he quickly glanced at Kaylyn. "But I'll give you the details at home."

"I didn't see you on a call," Kaylyn put in suspiciously.

"Well you weren't here all along, were you?" he replied dryly, forcing a smile.

Their gazes locked in a heated battle before Faith cleared her throat. "Everything OK here?"

"Fine," Kaylyn quickly replied with a smile. "I'm gonna go get some coffee, I'll be right back."

Kaylyn left, but paused around the corner when she heard Daniel talking.

"What's up with Kaylyn?" He asked, sounding as clueless as Dora.

"What do you mean?" Faith asked.

"I don't think she likes me very much. Honey, did you tell her about what happened between us earlier?"

Kaylyn swore under her breath, not quite believing the nerve of the man. Of course he knew Faith had told her everything; he overheard most of their conversation - that part especially.

Faith cleared her throat. "Er, no you um- you came before we had a chance to have a full conversation, but you don't have to worry about Kay, she's just protective is all."

"I see, so where's Lilly?"

"She's getting dressed...."

Kaylyn stopped listening as she walked to the far end of the room, fetching her phone from her purse. She quickly dialed a number before placing it to her ear.

"Jason, it's me Kaylyn. We need to talk."
