Chapter ➳ 3
Chapter ➳ 3 ➳ "The Intersection"
-present day-
"Which is better? Vanilla or Chocolate?" Ash asked all of us.
"Vanilla!" M.M. (Maria Mae) exclaimed at the same time Elena said "Chocolate."
I was with my friends. The four of us were hanging out in a cafe, drinking our matching Coffee Jelly Frappes. M.M. and Elena had started a debate about flavors thanks to Ash's question.
"Chocolate is too sweet!" M.M. exclaims. She always exclaims and speaks loudly. Quiet does not exist in her world, but we all love her the way she is.
"And Vanilla is too plain." Elena answers back.
M.M. gasps dramatically, "I'm offended!"
"How about you Vi? Which do you prefer?" Ash asks me.
"Honestly... I like strawberry better." I said.
"That's not even in the options." Ash sighs. "But ok, whatever rocks your boat."
I sip on my frappe, my three friends happen to do the same at same time as I. We all laugh at the coincidence.
"Ohhhhh guys, wanna tell scary stories? I got one!" M.M. suggested.
I stare out the window, not interested in their topic. I know I'm a spirit guide and I should be in the look out for ghost stories because it could lead me to lost spirits, but not everything that comes M.M. could be true. Again, I love her to bits, but she's type that exaggerates everything.
There was a road intersection just outside the cafe. I stare at the cars passing by, wondering where they could be heading and where they could be from.
Weirdly though, I can hear... something. There's a buzzing noice. It's pretty hard to distinguish if you aren't observant, but there's definitely a peculiar sound. It seems to me that the sound is coming from outside.
Meanwhile, M.M was about to start her tale. "Have you guys heard about the accident in the intersection?"
"Which one?" Ash asks.
"That intersection." M.M gestures outside.
Is that why I can hear strange noises?
Now I'm intrigued. "No, tell us more."
"I'm surprised you guys haven't heard. It was reported in the news months ago." Elena chimes in. "Hmm... you guys should watch the news more often."
"Shut up Elena! I'm telling the story here!" M.M. said (in a joking way). Elena rolls her eyes, but still there was a hint of a smile.
"So yeah, a few months ago... about 3 months I guess? Someone, maybe a boy around our age, was crossing the road. He was walking then BAM! He got hit by a truck. Ever since then, rumors have sprouted that if you drive through the intersection during the night, you might see a silhouette of a person standing in the middle of the road."
"Ohh, spooky." Ash murmurs. "Now let me tell you guys about the haunted ro-"
"The haunted room in your house. " Elena interrupts," You have told us that many times already, and I assure you, there's no ghost there."
"How do you know there's nothing there? You're not the one who gets the feel chills every time you enter that room every morning." Ash shivers just thinking about the haunted room.
"Being ghosted by someone is worse, if you know what I mean." M.M said. Ash sighs audibly.
We talked some more about random topics, but the story about the intersection keeps playing in my mind. I made a mental note to check if there is something going on in the intersection when I get the chance.
We leave the cafe and was about to cross the street. We were going to cross the intersection. I made sure to be observant of my surroundings.
I can hear the buzzing sound again, more distinguishable this time. I'm surprised I'm the only one that can hear it. It's very loud.
But if I am the only one that can hear it indeed, it must mean the sound is produced by something paranormal. This confirms my theory that this place is haunted.
I shall go back tonight to investigate further, and perhaps communicate with whatever is haunting this place.
I pull out the pocket watch I got during my birthday. It hasn't really helped me with finding spirits, but it's pretty helpful with telling time.
I squint at the watch. It's pointing at 6:30.
What? The last time I checked it was still 3:00. Time couldn't have moved so fast-
"Watch out!" An unfamiliar voice rings out.
Before I could react, I feel someone pull me away swiftly. A car speeds pass me.
The driver of the car rolls down the window and shouts something about being cautious plus a string of curse words.
"Violeta! Oh God, that was close!" Elena sighs with relief. "Don't add another accident to this intersection!"
"Sorry..." I said. "I was just... distracted."
And distracted I was. I was so focused on looking for spirits that I wasn't looking where I was going!
I must've been walking fast while I was lost in my thoughts, which is why I was way ahead of my friends.
Strange... didn't one of them just pull me away from the car?
And the voice a while ago... it didn't belong to them... and the driver's voice was different as well.
Was it the spirit of the boy who died in this intersection?
I muttered a silent "thank you". Whoever... whatever it was... they saved my life.
I'm glad I'll get to know them better later on.
