Deputy Do Good, Deputy Dip Shit, and the rest of the group decided to leave Daryl and me. It's about time they got a fucking clue. I was cleaning my crossbows and bolt as was Daryl. We were going to hunt and bring back somewhat of some meat.

I sighed and clicked my bolts into my crossbow. "I don't get why we're going out there," I said while slinging my crossbow on my back. Daryl grunted. "We gotta eat," he said. I shrugged. "Exactly we gotta eat not them. Let them fend for theirselves."

Daryl snorted "I'm not that selfish," I sighed now I felt like the dick. I nodded slightly before following Daryl out the door. There were woods right outside the gated area of the addition. Daryl and I quickly slipped out the gate and ran into the woods.

We were both silent as we walked through the woods. Daryl was leaning against a tree listening to the sounds around him. I was looking at the ground. I had learned a little in tracking watching Daryl for so long. I bent down noticing something that caught my eye.

There was mud that had hoof prints through it. I bent down and brushed some the sticks and leaves away. Sure enough they were deer tracks. I stood back up and tapped Daryl lightly on the shoulder. He turned around and cocked an eyebrow at me.

I pointed down to the tracks and Daryl bent down to look at them. He stood up not even a minute later. He glanced back at me and smiled a little before following the tracks. I felt pretty good like I had accomplished something. I followed quietly behind Daryl.

I think he was pretty happy with how far I had come when it came to hunting and I don't think I had distracted him that much anymore. The Georgia sun was not being easy on us today at all. We were both sweating and even though I had my hair up I was still hot.

Daryl suddenly stopped holding up his hand. I stopped and looked to see what he was looked at. A lone walker was just chilling in the clearing in the woods. The fucking thing looked like it was lost. It wasn't moving, it looked like it had fallen asleep standing up.

A breeze blew by us and suddenly it lifted its head picking up our scent. It hissed as it looked at us twisting its head to the side. Daryl raised his crossbow but I quickly placed my hand on it and smacked it down. Daryl looked over at me like I was nuts.

"It's mine," I growled while raising my crossbow. I know he was mad at me that day but still I wanted to show him I was a good shot even with a moving target. "Cover me just in case," I said peering in the scope. I closed one eye and took aim. The walker was moving at a slower pace than the others.

I let out a breath and pulled the trigger. I lowered it waiting on it to hit its target and I wanted to squeal with joy when I watched the bolt sink straight through its skull. I chuckled quietly to myself as I watched Daryl go to retrieve my bolt and bring it back.

He had wiped the blood off on the walker's shirt and handed it back to me. I took it from him as he laid a hand on my shoulder. His hand ran down my arm and he clutched my hand in his. "Nice shot," he whispered while squeezing my hand a little.

I'm pretty sure I couldn't wipe the smile off my face. Daryl leaned forward and pressed a light kiss on my lips before pulling back and continuing to track the deer. I spit on the walker I killed as we walked by and I swear I could see Daryl smiling a little.

We were quiet as we continued through the woods. Every once in a while Daryl would stop and check the trail again. Sometimes he would venture further left or right. I stopped watching Daryl in front of me and I started making sure his back was covered.

I ran into something solid only to figure out it was Daryl's back. He scowled a little as he crouched down behind a bush pulling me down with him. I finally saw what he was looking at a huge buck was grazing about 25 feet ahead of us. I loaded my crossbow again waiting for Daryl.

He gave me a few hand signals and I figured out we were going to be shooting at the same time. Daryl pointed at the buck then pointed at his own throat telling me to shoot it through the neck. I peered through my scope and lined up my shot. "Now."

I felt myself pull the trigger and I watched as Daryl's bolt stuck in one of its hind legs while mine sunk right into its neck instantly making it drop. Daryl and I came out from behind our hiding spot and made our way to the buck. It was still breathing a little.

I pulled out my knife and shoved it into its head putting it out of its misery. I looked over to see Daryl staring at me with a slightly shocked look. "What?" I asked him while sheathing my knife. He shrugged. "A week ago you were freaked to kill a walker. Now look at you."

I chuckled a little while pulling out my bolt. "I learned to adjust, I guess. I can't always have you covering my ass," I said. Daryl shrugged a little. "I guess you're right but I'll always be watching your ass whether you know it or not," I had no clue which way I should've taken that comment.

Daryl smirked a little as if catching what I was thinking about. I rolled my eyes and slung my crossbow on my back. Daryl tied rope around the deer's legs and heaved it over his shoulder. I asked if he wanted me to help carry it but he just grunted and kept walking.

I'm pretty sure this was the quickest hunt we had ever been on. I kept a close eye on everything around us seeing as Daryl had his crossbow slung on his back and his hands were full with the buck. It was quiet between us as we walked back towards the addition.

The sun was just now starting to sink and I was a tad worried. Sure I had been in the woods at night but not when there was flesh eating geeks wanting to use you as a midnight snack. Daryl shifted the deer on his back and I smiled a little as I watched his muscles flex.

Those damn things would be the life of me. I shook my head trying to get dirty images out of my head. After about an hour of walking I saw the gate to the addition appear. I'm pretty sure Daryl was ready to ditch this deer right as we got inside.

I quickly unlocked the gate and let Daryl in before closing the gate behind us. We found the group all sitting around the make shift fire ring we had made out in the middle of all the houses. Some of them clapped slowly as we walked up and Daryl laid the deer on the ground.

I glared at all of them thinking about what I had said to them earlier that day. Daryl never got a thank you. If it wasn't for him they would starve. They wouldn't know what to do without him. "Thank you," I finally heard someone say and I found the voice to be Rick's.

Everyone else followed suit and murmured their 'thanks' as Daryl and I started skinning the deer. We were a little further away from the group as we skinned the deer. Rick didn't want us to gross anyone out but we didn't argue I could tell Daryl wanted to talk.

"You did good today," Daryl said not even bothering to look away from the task at hand. I felt a smile creep on my face. "Thanks," I said while starting to cut up the meat. Daryl stopped working and looked up at me. I saw that genuine Dixon smile he only gave me.

"You're welcome, beautiful," I felt my face become red as I tried to hide it and it only cause Daryl to smile wider. We quickly finished preparing the deer and set the pot over the fire. We decided while it was cooking we were going to clean up just a little bit.

After quickly cleaning up we rejoined the group just in time. Dinner was somewhat ready. I don't think we had eaten this good in a while. Deer was way better than squirrel and I think everyone agreed. We all ate in silence while listening to the sounds around us.

"So I was thinking," I started practically everyone in the group looked over at me. Rick nodded his head as if telling me to go on. "We need to get some boards and put them on the gates. I know we can't slip through them, but a walker or 30 who's hungry and doesn't care to lose a limb would slip right through there."

I think I had scared everyone around me but it was the truth. Rick barely nodded but I watched his eyes shift to Shane. I looked over at Daryl. "Rick looks to Shane." I heard ring through my head and at that moment I knew Daryl was right. He didn't seem to have the balls to make the decisions around here. He didn't deserve to be the leader.

Rick nodded again. "We'll scout things out tomorrow. Good idea," I barely nodded as I felt Daryl nudge me a little. I took that as a sign he wanted to turn in and I stood up. "Goodnight y'all," I said. Daryl stood up. No one said anything to us as we walked away.

"Doesn't that bug you?" I asked as soon as we were out of ear shot of the group. Daryl looked over at me and arched an eyebrow. "What?" he asked. I slightly pointed back to the group. "They never thank you and they very rarely speak to you," I said.

Daryl shrugged. "I don't talk to them. They don't talk to me," I sighed. "Still they need to at least say thank you. Without you they wouldn't have food. I don't even know what would happen if you weren't around or if we hadn't have joined the group."

Daryl snorted. "We weren't going to join the group but someone convinced me otherwise," he said while nudging me again. I felt a smile come across my face. "Safety is better in numbers," we were in the house at this point and upstairs changing for bed.

Daryl was quiet and I thought he was done with conversation. When I turned around he was standing super close to me. I hated when he snuck up on me and I never heard him. It was the hunter in him. "One," Daryl said while pointing at himself.

I was a little confused at what he was doing. He pressed his index finger on my chest where my heart was. "Two. Safety is better in numbers. I cover your ass you cover mine. That's all we need," Daryl said while wrapping his arms around me. I couldn't help but chuckle a little as he connected his lips with mine.
