Chapter 26
So I have a simple question for you guys. How do you like the story so far? No just kidding that's not my question. My brain for some reason just won't shut off when it comes to writing ideas. So here's my question, would you read a story about Daryl with no apocalypse or anything like that? No end of the world shit? Just straight Daryl and Merle and whatever girl I throw into the mix? Tell me what you think!

"What are you thinking?" I asked Daryl breaking the silence between us. We were lying in his old bed the sheets pulled up around us. His left arm was slung around me and my head was on his chest. I was taking the fingers on my left hand and running them up and down his chest.
I shifted a little so I could look up at him. His eyes were closed and I thought he was asleep until I felt his hand close around mine. He ran his thumb over the ring for what seemed like the millionth time since he had put it on me. I sighed a little nuzzling my head into the crook of his neck.
"You miss her, don't you?" I whispered. I watched as goose bumps danced across his skin. He squeezed me a little and I took that as he didn't want to talk about it. "Every day," he finally said. I kissed his neck before settling my head back on his chest. I could see out the window from where I was laying.
"I don't think we're going back home. It's getting dark," I said. Daryl shifted uncomfortably. "Home," he mumbled. I sighed thinking about what I had just said. Home and safe were two words Daryl had hated. He said there was never going to be a home or safe place again.
I had to agree with him there. He groaned and removed his arm from me. I instantly missed the warmth of him being beside me. I pulled the sheet around me as he got out of bed. He pulled on his boxers, pants and boots. He threw on his angel winged vest.
"I need to move the truck," he said. I nodded and he quickly headed downstairs. I decided to pull my under garments on. I sighed and went to Daryl's closet. I grabbed one of his shirts and a pair of his old sweatpants. Not caring how I looked I made my way through the house.
Somehow I had found myself in front of Merle's old room. I had never been in there and honestly it kind of scared me. Knowing Merle his room was probably very unpredictable. I shook my head and opened the door. I wasn't surprised to see it a mess.
You could tell the last time he was in here he definitely left in a rush. I took a few cautious steps into his room. His bed looked trashy and a mess. Drawers were thrown open, clothes were everywhere. I took a few more steps into his room. That's when things started getting eerie.
I had never been in his room before in all my years of knowing him and being with Daryl but being in here somehow made me feel safe. I don't know what about it. Even though there was a eeriness somehow a calmness had come over me too. I heard the door slam.
I figured I needed to get out of Merle's room before Daryl had my ass. Right when I was about to walk out something caught my eye. The door to Merle's closet was wide open. Luckily the sun hadn't gone all the way down yet so there was still some light in the room.
I heard Daryl's footsteps coming up the stairs. Something was drawing me to Merle's closet. I inched closer. For some reason I was scared all over again. I felt like something was going to come out and bite me. I eased my way towards his closet slowly.
I heard Daryl growl as I figured he had just went in his room to see me gone. I pushed Merle's old clothes aside. The floor to the back left of his closet was torn up. I noticed a little cubby hole under the boards. "Hey Daryl," I called out. "What?" I heard right behind me making me jump.
I turned around and shook my head. "Do you enjoy scaring me?" I asked him a slight annoyance in my voice. He smirked a little before nodding towards Merle's closet. "What's wrong?" he asked. I turned back around. "How many people knew about the trap door in here?" I asked him.
"Only me and Merle. Why?" he asked. I stepped to the side so he could see in. "Did y'all clear it out the first time you were here?" I asked. Daryl shook his head. "No, Merle was high off his rocker. I could barely get him out of the bed when shit hit the fan," he said.
I pointed to the now missing boards. "You don't think," I started my voice trailing off. Daryl stepped inside the closet and knelt down by the cubby hole. He dug around for a minute and I noticed he had opened another small door in the hole. I was officially confused.
"Merle used to keep a gun in here a long with his stash sometimes but he mostly hid money in here so my dad wouldn't get to it. Like it helped any with how bad into drugs he was," he said. I sighed and leaned against the dresser. I quickly leaned off of it feeling it shift under my weight.
"So was it?" I asked him. Daryl stood and nodded while shutting the door to the closest. "Definitely him. He's been back here since he escaped Atlanta," Daryl said. We walked out of Merle's room in silence with Daryl shutting the door behind us.
"He's still alive," I said as we laid back down on Daryl's bed. For some reason we felt so comfortable. I felt like I was back in high school all over again just lying in Daryl's bed and talking to him. Daryl nodded. "I told you. Nobody can kill Merle but Merle."
Daryl slid his arm back around me. "Get some sleep. We have to get out of here first thing in the morning and make it back. I bet you Deputy Do Good is already forming a search party," Daryl said. 'Or not,' I thought to myself. I relaxed into Daryl as I fell into a deep sleep.

I woke up the next morning to no Daryl beside me. I sighed and sat up while stretching. Hopefully he wasn't too far away. I crawled out of bed and slowly walked through the house. I found Daryl sitting downstairs with a can of whatever in his hand.
I guess it was breakfast. I leaned against the table beside the chair he was sitting in. He held the can out to me and I looked in it. Cold ravioli, awesome. I ate a little and handed it back to Daryl. He grunted. He definitely wasn't a morning person at all.
I went into the kitchen and opened the cabinets to find absolutely nothing of use. Bunch of hunters never kept any sort of food in their house because they could go out and catch it just as easy. I walked back upstairs and went to Daryl's closet. I found an empty duffel bag.
I grabbed pants and shirts from Daryl's closet. I heard his footsteps. You know for a hunter he wasn't very quiet in his house. I soon felt his presence in the room I didn't have to turn around. "What are you doing?" I heard him ask. I zipped the bag and threw it over my shoulder before turning around.
"You're gonna need more clothes. Yours are getting holey," I said while sticking my index finger through a hole in his shirt. Daryl smirked a little before trying to grab the bag from my shoulders. I shook my head and adjusted it. Daryl bent down and grabbed our crossbows.
He handed mine to me and smiled a little. I had already changed back into my clothes and had my knife strapped around my waist. We made our way down the stairs and went to head out the back door where Daryl had parked his truck. He took one more glance back at the house before closing the door.
The ride back to the housing addition seemed to be shorter for some reason. Maybe it was because Daryl was no longer in a foul mood. I quickly jumped out unlocked the gate while letting Daryl drive through. I locked the gate as Daryl goofed off and drove quickly through the housing addition.
I rolled my eyes as I trucked after him. He parked his truck in the driveway to my house and got out. As we were about to enter our house quietly all hell broke loose. It seemed like our group had come out of nowhere and started attacking us with questions.
They were basically all the same. "Where did you go? Are you okay? Why didn't you tell us where you were going?" I could see both Rick and Shane were pissed. I backed up a little feeling my back collide with Daryl's chest and I instantly relaxed feeling his hand on the small of my back.
"Do you know how worried we were?" Rick said. Shane scoffed beside him. "You should've told us where you were going," he continued. I felt my eyes roll. "I don't know how you were before this but you're in a group now. You make sure someone knows where you're going. You never know what could happen if someone didn't know. We don't wanna lose you."
I scoffed as I crossed my arms. "Problem?" Shane asked me. I glared over at him. "Yeah, actually. You guys wouldn't give two shits if something happened to Daryl or I. You'd only be concerned because you wouldn't get food thrown in your face every day. You wouldn't know what to do if it wasn't for Daryl."
I directed my attention to Rick now. "As for you, last time I checked you weren't my daddy, Deputy Do Good. Never have been, never will be. No one voted you or Deputy Dip Shit over there leaders you guys just placed yourselves in those positions. I don't have to answer to you."
With that I turned on my heel and made my way into my house ignoring all the shocked and stunned looks I got. It felt kind of good, no correction, it felt fucking amazing to stand up for myself. Someone had to put them in their places before they got too high and mighty.
I had already made it upstairs by the time I heard the door open and close again knowing Daryl had come in. "Emery," I heard his gruff voice. I could tell he was a little pissed. I heard his footsteps coming up the stairs and then I was instantly met by his figure in the doorway.
"What the fuck?" he said, "do you like stirring up shit?" I could tell he was trying to hide the slight smile that was creeping across his face. I cracked a smile at him and I watched as he couldn't hold it in anymore and the smile crept across his face. I knew he wasn't mad. He was proud.
He sat down beside me on the bed and wrapped his arms around my waist. He pushed his nose into my neck. "That's my girl," he said against my skin before lightly biting down on it causing me to gasp. We fell back on the bed as he hovered over me.
He kissed my lightly on the lips before working his way back to my neck. My mind automatically started flashing to other things as much as I wanted to be in the moment. I remembered us lying on the bed multiple times while he cried about his dad though he would deny it still to this day.
I felt Daryl bite down on my neck again and I moaned causing him to growl against my skin. Damn it other things started popping into my head. I couldn't concentrate on Daryl above me at all. Finally it clicked as I felt Daryl tug my shirt over my head.
"Becca," I said. Daryl stopped kissing all over my body and looked up at me. "What?" he said clearly hurt by the disturbance of my talking. I pushed him lightly off of me and sat up. I played with his mother's ring absent mindedly trying to figure out how to bring this up.
"Becca," I said again hoping it would give me time to think. "Your high school friend," Daryl stated and I barely nodded. "What about her?" he asked. I sighed and shook my head. I didn't know if he knew what I was about to tell him and I was a little scared to bring it up.
"Think about her for a second," I said. Daryl leaned back on his elbows on the bed, a confused look clearly on his face. "I don't get where you're going with this," he said. I sighed again and leaned back with him. "She looked just like me. We always swore we were twins."
I looked over at Daryl who was already staring at me intently. "And?" Daryl asked still confused as to where this was going. I bit on my bottom lip nervously. "Do you remember her?" I asked. Daryl groaned while flopping back on the bed. "Em," he said while trying to pull me back into him.
I shrugged him off. "Do you remember her?" I asked again. Daryl sat back up. "Yeah I do. How could I not? Merle had a thing for her for some odd reason. Ya looked exactly alike except she was a little taller than you. Why?" he asked. I looked over at him.
"One night Becca came to my house shit faced drunk. She couldn't go home because her parents would kill her so I let her crash at my place. While I was practically carrying her up the steps to my room she started drunkenly talking," I said.
Daryl grunted. "Still don't know what this has to do with anything," he said. I shifted so I could get a better look at him. "She uh....she told me she slept with Merle," I said. I watched Daryl's face as it hardened then softened then hardened again as if trying to figure it all out.
His eyes slowly shifted and connected with mine. "We both know Merle. He was probably so drunk, high on something or both that he thought he slept with me or something. Or maybe one of his friends saw him with Becca and thought it was me," I said.
"Son of a bitch," Daryl growled while flopping back on the bed again. He covered his face with his arms. "Daryl," I whispered while trying to remove his arms. He grunted. "Bastard causes trouble without even being here," he mumbled. I couldn't help but chuckle.
Daryl uncovered his face and held his arms out to me. I sunk into them and laid my head on his chest grateful that he wasn't mad. "I would have never cheated on you," I said. Daryl tightened his grip around me. He ran a hand up and down my arm.
"I know. I just-sometimes I let Merle get to me and he's my brother, ya know? Might of gotten in a ton of shit all the time but I always believed every word he said no matter how drugged up he was," Daryl said. I wrapped an arm around him and squeezed him gently.
I looked up at him to see him already looking down at him. His eyes were sad but he had a slight smile on his face. I knew his thoughts were still stuck on Merle after we had found at his house and now bringing up things that had happened six years ago.
Daryl brought his hand to the back of my neck and pulled me towards him. I sighed as I felt his lips connect with mine. His other hand found my hip as he shifted me so I was on top of him. He pulled back after a few minutes and smiled up at me.
His traced my blush with his index finger which made it even worse. He knew it drove me nuts but he got a kick out of it. His eyes shifted from mine as he looked around my room as if taking it in since we had been here. His eyes sparkled and he lightly pushed me off of him as he found something that made him smile.
