"Good Carmen; now, I want you to do it again, but this time, I want you to focus on your breathing when you punch. You're holding your breath; and that actually weakens the impact of your hits," Enzo instructs her. 

It's been a while since we did anything close to training with the kids and with how things seem to be escalating, I thought better late than never to start back up.

I watch as Carmen wipes her forehead and nods before she gets in her stance and focuses on hitting the pads on Enzo's hands. She hisses out her breaths in sync with her punches and I smile, proud at how quickly she alters her technique to do it correctly. 

I look over on the other side of me where Santino is working with the older kids with their grappling techniques. Marco and Kai are working on different choke holds while Lucy and Miles are working on take downs. After a while they switch partners and Santino asks the twins and Lucy if they've worked on how to get away when attacked by surprise. 

"Yeah, mom's started with some basic self defense moves when she started training us in Hawaii," Miles informs Santino. 

"Okay, good. Let's see what you got then. Lucy and Marco lets have you guys go first," Santino moves to the center of the mat. "Lucy, Marco is going to come at you from behind, let me see what you would do." 

Lucy stands with her back to the guys and then Marco moves forward and wraps his arms around her waist. Lucy bends down and then grabs one of Marco's legs and pulls up, knocking him back then she acts out a kick to the groin followed by a couple of punches before she moves away. 

Santino nods. "That was good, but let's say you're not able to get him down, what would you do then." 

"Aim hits, punches or kicks to all the soft spots of the body, but first try to create as much distance between myself and the attacker," Lucy tells him, "And I would do that by throwing an elbow back, or foot stomps."

"Bene, let's do an attack from the front then," Santino says. (okay)

This time, Marco moves quickly trying to catch Lucy off guard, but she's prepared as she ducks, grabs his arm and flips him, while rolling herself over him so she lands full mount, straddling him while grabbing his head in a choke hold and Marco taps quickly.

Kai snorts, "Then Carmen is better off working with Santino or Enzo than you, bruh."  

"My turn, my turn!" Lola comes running in the gym followed by Toby who trips over his own feet trying to keep up with Lola. 

"Me too, me too!" Toby says from his sprawled out position on the mat. 

We chuckle as we watch Lola attempt to spar with Enzo and as Toby does his own "ninja" moves with sound affects and all, with Miles and Kai.

"Alright, gang, let's head home and get cleaned up." I announce after a while. 

"Mom, do you think JP will let us go out tonight? I know things are tense right now, but it's the last summer party before school starts," Kai asks as we walk out of the gym and into the hallway. 

"Stella, I promise, if it gets too crazy, we'll leave," Marco adds. I glance over at Enzo and Santino and they both shrug at me. 

"I'll talk to him and let him know I think it's okay, but you guys have to take at least three of the men with you, which I know won't look cool, but that's the condition or you don't go at all." 

They all nod back at me. 

"That's no fair, they get to go out while we have to stay locked up in the house," Carmen complains. 

"How about we go out, too?" I tell her hooking my arm in hers."JP will be home in a few hours and we can go to Serendipity 3." Carmen's eyes light up and she nods her head enthusiastically, she loves the family center and has since she was little. I remember Tobias and Mel would take her and Marco there a lot during the summer and even in the winter time.

"I'm feeling very left out," Enzo comments. "What about you?" He looks at Santino.

I laugh. "You two are obviously coming, duh." Santino and Enzo high five each other.
