XV. Persephone
I was a naive girl standing in a flower field,
I picked up a narcissus and deeply smelled it,
Little did I know when the ground broke,
that I would be taken down into a boundless chasm.
They put a pomegranate in my hand,
and just like Persephone I could not withstand,
lured by the smell and vows of fake love,
I drank the juice of my downfall.
Bound me with chains of gold,
saying its for my own good,
and like a fool I believed all their words,
love is not blind but I once was.
Put poison in my milk and made me drink it,
till my lips turned blue and my breaths hitched,
made me throw up and put the blame on me,
that I should have known better, I should have been careful.
Everytime they lashed at me,
I thought let me take it easy,
ofcourse they don't mean it,
I should not be silly.
I was the perfect girl whose tears they just loved,
could not get enough of it so they made me cry,
and watched in awe as they fell from my eyes,
like diamonds from Neptune's skies.
Now I am the husk of a girl I once used to be,
the chains that hold me has rusted like the blood in my veins,
I know it is the time to break free,
but I am scared 'cause freedom is never free.
If I fall down who will hold me?
my body has crumpled like an unused bedsheet,
yet I crawl on all fours towards the flickering ember,
I still hope to regain what I lost in this endless winter.
The mind may forget but the heart always remembers,
the halycon days of a long ago October,
that is the curse of the conscious mind,
it never let goes neither it tries.
