Chapter 2

A/N: The video above does not belong to me. It belongs to the person who uploaded it on the internet.

Jeff's POV

"Thank you," I said to the waiter as he led me to the corner table of the newly opened seafood restaurant that was right in the middle of the commercial district of Bangkok.

"While I'm waiting for my guest I will have a glass of water," I informed him.

"Sure," the waiter said, walking away to get it for me.

I glanced at the time on my phone.

I wondered what was keeping Barcode. We were supposed to meet fifteen minutes ago. I had stood outside the entrance of the restaurant to wait for him but when fifteen minutes had passed, I decided to walk inside and wait for him at our reserved table.

I looked through the glass wall of the restaurant.

Shit, the drizzle had turned into a pouring rain. Maybe the inclement weather was the reason that Barcode was delayed.

Sure enough a minute or two after the waiter had set down a glass of water on my table, Barcode rushed in, his hair shiny with raindrops, brushing off some water from his arms.

"The traffic outside is horrible," he complained.

"It's because of the rain," I remarked. "People drive like crazy in the rain."

I passed on the menu booklet to him as soon as he got himself seated across from me.

He studied it intently like he was studying for his final exams.

Finally he lifted his head.

"I want the skewered baby squids in thick satay sauce," he said, giving me that smile that never failed to make my heart flip around in my chest.

"Sure," I said.

When the waiter approached us I gave two orders of the skewered baby squids.

"What drinks would you like to order, sir?" he asked.

"I'd like a cherry vanilla coke," I replied.

Before the waiter could even turn to Barcode, Barcode said, "Gimme a bottle of Corona, please."

"No!" I protested.

"How old is he?" the waiter asked me.

"Twenty five," Barcode did not wait for me to answer the waiter.

The waiter obviously did not believe him because the waiter kept on looking at me waiting for my response.

"He's not old enough to drink alcohol," I said to the waiter.

"I thought so," the waiter said.

"Give him a cherry vanilla coke as well," I told the waiter.

"Very well, sir," the waiter said, walking away to bring our orders to their kitchen.

I ignored Barcode's cutesy pout.

"Do you think it's still gonna be raining tomorrow?" I  asked him to take his mind off his failed attempt to drink some beer.

He shrugged his shoulder.

"If it rains, I'm not gonna go to school," he said. "I hate a rainy Monday morning."

"I'll pick you  up from your house and bring you to school," I offered.

He pouted some more. The idea of free car service to school did not appeal to him.

"You shouldn't miss school for such a flimsy reason as rain," I scolded him.

He pouted even more.

"Stop scolding me," he grumbled.

Suddenly a young man about Barcode's age approached us.

"Hey, Barcode!" the young man raised his hand for a high five.

"Hey, Aun!" Barcode gave him the high five that he was aiming for. "Who are you with?"

"My parents," Aun said, pointing at a table on another side of the restaurant where a couple were getting ready to sit down. "We just came from the mall. My mom likes to go shopping on Sundays."

Then Aun turned his attention on me and then back to Barcode.

"Is this your dad or your uncle?" he asked.

I noticed Barcode's cheeks turn a deep red.
