The crew laughed and jeered as they forced Elizabeth onto the narrow plank of wood. The water beneath her sparkling under the Caribbean sun. A mile away or so was the golden stretch of a Sandy beach. A small uninhabited island waiting. Elizabeth took a step back onto the plank nervously. The pointed tips of blades stopping her from walking back onto the safety of the deck.
"Go on!" The pirates grinned. "Walk the plank".
"Barbosa you lying Bastard!" Will snarled as he was fought against the men holding him back. His wrists were tied and his belt was empty. All he could do was watch as Elizabeth was forced further out over the water. "You swore she and Benj would go free!"
"Don't dare inpune my honour boy!" Barbosa shouted. "I agreed they'd go free, but it was you who failed to specify when or where". He chuckled deeply, the crew echoing his cackles. "Though it'll be a shame to loose something so fine, don't it lads?" He called. "So I'll be having that dress back before you go".
Elizabeth glared at him as she tore the lacings free and snatched the dress over her head. Underneath she wore only a slime white under layer, more a night dress than appropriate clothing. A few wolf whistles sounding as she threw the red dress at his face. "It goes with your black heart".
Barbosa smiled as he held it up. He hummed, "it's still warm". The crew laughed.
Elizabeth looked back from where she was perched on the very edge of the board, glancing at Will. The pirates holding him had forced a gag in his mouth. His silent gaze worried. She then glanced up to where Benj still hung. The metal net swinging slightly above the crew's heads. His form still and silent in its chains. "Too long!" A pirate complained. He stamped on the board and Elizabeth shrieked as it wobbled. She fell unceremoniously into the water with a splash. Her form soon surfacing and swimming towards the island.
"I'd really rather hoped that we were past all this", Jack forced a grin as the pirates shoved him onto the plank.
Barbosa patted him on the shoulder condescendingly. "Jack. Did you not notice? That's the little island we made you governor of on our last trip".
Jack looked at the island again, grin falling into slight fear. "I did notice".
"Perhaps you'll be able to conjure up another miraculous escape", Barbosa remarked. "But I doubt it". He stepped back and drew his blade. "Off you go".
Jack took a step back. "The last time you left me a pistol with one shot".
"You're right. Where he Jack's pistol? Bring it forward". A pirate produced Jack's belt. The sword and pistol still attached.
"Seeing there's two of us", Jack pried. "A gentleman would give us a pair of pistols".
"I'll give you one pistol as before", Barbosa replied. "And you can be the gentleman and shoot the lady then starve to death yourself". With that, he threw the belt into the sea. Jack didn't hesitate before diving neatly after it. The pirates laughter following him.
Barbosa turned triumphantly to the crew. "Well Lads. Let's set sail!" The crew all cheered. Some dispersing to prepare the sails. But Will was shouting through his gag, struggling against his bonds. Barbosa sighed and strode over. He tore the gag from his teeth. "What!"
"You said that you would free Benj", Will pointed out. "But still see him in that net". Barbosa groaned as he glanced up. Benj waved cheekily from where he was swinging. The net was starting to get really painful now. The chains chafing his skin and pressing bruises into his bones. The cuts had stopped bleeding but they still stung.
"Aye", Barbosa ground out. "I did say that. But you neglected the where and when Will Turner. But I suppose I can cut him down for now". He raised a hand and waved at his crew. "Cut the ropes!"
A pirate nodded and climbed up into the rigging. His blade sliced evenly through the ropes and Benj helped as he fell. He and the metal net hit the deck with a harsh thump, the impact knocking the air from his lungs. The crew all laughing as he began struggling against the metal. "Drag him to the hold", Barbosa commanded. "He shall go free once this is all over. When the curse is lifted". He strode away, leaving the crew to drag Benj and Will down below deck.
The two of the them were thrown into a small cell ringed by iron bars. The crew of the interceptor were all squashed into a bigger one next door. All of them watching as Benj was dragged inside. His form still wrapped in the steel net. Will grunted as he was pushed heavily after him. The door clanging shut as the pirates stomped back upstairs. Their laughter echoing back to them.
"Will, Benj", Mr Gibbons hissed as he pressed against the bars. "What happened?"
Benj rested his head on the wooden floor with a huff. "Jack and Elizabeth have been marooned". Mr Gibbons sighed.
Will had been tugging with his bonds. He let out a pleased grunt as he managed to loosen the ropes enough to pull his hands through. He dropped the coil to the floor and knelt down at Benj's side. "Stay still", he spoke softly. Fingers dancing along the metal links. He began slowly untangling the net. The metal coiled so tightly around Benj's form that it took a long time for him to work.
Benj watched the process quietly. Will's hands more dexterous than he realised. The strength of a blacksmith helping as he slowly loosened the chains. "You called me Benjamin", he spoke after a while.
"Huh?" Will asked, gritting his teeth as he got stuck on a particularly tangled part. In the next cell, the crew had gotten bored. They were all seated. Some sleeping as the ship rocked.
"Benjamin. Only my mother calls me Benjamin".
Will smiled slightly as he glanced at Benj's face for a second. "Your mother? What is that like? I didn't know that you knew her".
Benj snorted, then winced as the net brushed against his cuts. "I know her. Just because she left me on a pirate ship as a babe, doesn't mean that I didn't grow up with her. What about you? You got a mother?"
"She died when I was twelve", Will sighed. "That was why I left England to search for my dad".
Benj nodded. Not offering any words or apologies. Dead parents weren't exactly uncommon. "Your dad was a nice man, for a pirate. If it makes you feel any better then my mother ate mine".
"She ate him?" Will blinked.
Benj grinned with sharp teeth. "She liked playing with her food. Very wild lady". Will stared at him for a moment then snorted. "Something funny?"
"No. That just made a lot more sense than I thought it would", Will chuckled. Benj frowned, not understanding. There was another tug on the net. "Your legs are free. The rest should be easier". Will's hands moved up to the coils around Benj's chest and arms. The metal was pressing his arms tightly to his chest and side. Both limbs uncomfortable.
Will was right. The net around his arms fell away after a few more minutes. Benj gasped heavily as he stretched. The blood flowing back into his limbs. Will reached out and gently helped him sit up, leaning him against the hull. "Thank you", Benj's sighed. "That was decidedly not pleasant. No hospitality here". He began shaking his hands to bring the blood back to his fingertips.
Will chuckled as he seated himself next to him. "Your cuts", he pointed out. They had began bleeding again with all the movement. Benj scowled and tore a few strips from his shirt. The material torn and full of holes from where the metal links had bitten into him. He tried to lean forwards but winced at the stiffness.
"Let me", Will lightly took the material and began winding the bandages round the wounds. Benj watching softly as he worked.
"On one summers morning", he sung quietly. His voice bouncing round the hull as the ship rocked. Benj was tired. The panic of being trapped slowly fading into exhaustion. "I carefully did stray. Down by the walls of warping where I met a sailor gay. Conversing with a young lass, who seemed to be in pain. Saying 'William when you go, I fear you'll never return again".
"You have a wonderful voice", Will murmured. Benj's singing soothing him. He leaned back against the wood, th wounds now bandaged, to watch the other.
"My heart is pierced by Cupid. I distain all glittering gold. Nothing can console me but my jolly sailor bold". Benj's voice drifted off into a quiet hum as his eyes fell shut. Will watched him for a minute more as the man's breathing depended and he sagged slightly. Once certain he was asleep, Will carefully guided Benj's head to rest on his shoulder. The man sighed but continued sleeping.
When Will glanced over at the rest of the crew, he locked eyes with Mr Gibbons. The grey haired man smiled and lifted a finger to his lips. He winked and turned leaned his own head back as he got comfortable. Will hastily turned his gaze back down to the floor, cheeks slightly warm. On his shoulder, Benj slept silently.
