I'll Wait For You
Hey! Sorry if this one turns out to be stupid or cheesy. It's a Joriah story, and I had the idea....but methinks I didn't do it right. What are your opinions? And the next one shot will be for christismysaviour, who is simply awesome. Thanks for reading!
Maybe I met you when I was five years old
On a seashore, in a playground,
In an ice cream store
Were we ever introduced,
Did mama make me talk to you
Hey there, hello, hello, hello.
Five-year-old Moriah stood in the line with her mother, waiting to reach the front and get their ice cream. She spotted a boy she'd never seen before in the front of the line. He turned around, holding a cone, and waved at her.
"Hi!" He chirped, and she waved, shy all of a sudden. Her mother saw his mum, who was with him.
"Well, if it isn't Helen Smallbone. How are you?" He mother asked, and his mum smiled.
"Oh, doing alright, Pat. How about you?" Her mother smiled.
"Doing pretty well. I'm guessing this is one of yours?" Helen smiled, a hand on his shoulder.
"Yes, this is Joel. I'm guessing this is your little one as well?" Pat smiled, reaching down, and Moriah scooted behind her mother.
"This is Moriah. She's a bit shy." Helen laughed quietly.
"Sounds like Luke." Joel said, ice cream in his mouth, and his mum shook her head.
"Oh, you....go say hi." He obeyed, going behind Mrs. Peters.
"Hi! I'm Joel. What's your name?" She peeked around her mother to see him.
"I'm Moriah." She whispered, and Joel grinned.
"Hi, Moriah!" He held out his ice cream cone, and she tilted her head slightly.
"Want some?" She shook her head, smiling sweetly.
"No thanks. I'm getting my own." They talked for another minute, then Joel and his mum left.
Did daddy tell me stay away,
It's not a boy you need today
Okay, okay okay,
As we've gotten older, who could've known
That we'd find each other?
Moriah and her mother got back home, and she ran to her dad.
"Papà!" He smiled, scooping her up.
"Holà, princess. Did you enjoy your ice cream?" She nodded.
"Sí! And I met someone. His name was Joel, and he offered me his ice cream cone. Does that mean he likes me?" Her dad chuckled.
"That was sweet, but no. And even if he did, you're too young to be worried about boys. You don't need to date until you're at least 30." He said, teasing with the last part. She giggled.
"Okay, papá." Later, she found out that Joel was moving to Tennessee, and she probably wouldn't see him again. But, God knew what would happen. And he didn't forget about that ice cream cone.
Love's far away, far away
But we're moving closer
Love's kinda crazy, it's strange
Suddenly it finds you.
So love, wait for me
I'll wait for you, love.
At fifteen, Moriah still hadn't forgotten about meeting Joel ten years ago. She went to a Rebecca St James concert, excited, as she loved her music. Then, during one of the songs, she saw a familiar face. Joel. She caught her breath, trying to make her way through the crowd to reach him, and then he spotted her, waving. She smiled, waving back, and finally got through the crowd.
"Hi. You look a little different." She said, smiling, and he laughed.
"You do too. You just look even more beautiful." She blushed, and he took her hands, hearing his name being called.
"Moriah, will you do something for me, love? Will you wait for me? I'll come back, and we can...Well...maybe be friends?" She smiled and nodded.
"Of course. Friends. And yes, I'll wait for you."
I think I saw you when I was 17
On prom night, or at that old ice cream store.
I noticed you across the road
There was something more to you
Hey there, hello hello, hello.
I wonder if you knew my name
Or even if you feel the same way I do.
We've gotten older, who could've known
We were right there, waiting.
Moriah had just turned 17.....and Joel still hadn't come back. Two years, and she had just about given up on ever seeing him face to face again. Sure, they talked over the phone occasionally, but she missed him. And she thought that maybe.....she was starting to fall in love with him.
"Get a grip, Moriah!" She chided mentally, shaking her head. She walked into that old ice cream store, ordering the same thing as she had at 5. A chocolate chip cookie dough cone. She turned around, leaving. She crossed the road, but looked back one more time.....and saw Joel in the doorway. She smiled, waving, and he waved as well. Maybe....it wasn't quite time to give up just yet.
Love's far away, far away
But we're moving closer
Love's kinda crazy, it's strange
Suddenly it finds you
So love, wait for me
I'll wait for you, love.
"Happy birthday." She heard a whisper in her ear, jumping, and nearly smacking her boyfriend.
"Joel! Don't do that!" He chuckled, hugging her.
"You know I can't resist, love." She shook her head.
"I should. But I still don't. 19, I've dated you for two years, and there are still times I'm the most gullible person on the planet." He gave her a mock offended look.
"What's that supposed to mean?" She laughed.
"You pull a lot of pranks on people." He pretended to take a bow, and she laughed again. Then, he smiled.
"But this isn't a prank, Mo." He said, getting down on one knee. She froze, shocked.
"Moriah, I know I seen like the most insane person on the planet sometimes, but I know that these feelings aren't insane. I love you, Moriah. Things have been crazy and stressful, but just being around you.....little things don't matter as much. So...." He took out a small black box, opening it and revealing the ring inside.
"Moriah Castillo Peters....Will you marry me?"
Love's far away, far away
But we're moving closer
Love's kinda crazy, it's strange
Suddenly it finds you
I'll wait for you, Love.
Moriah took a deep breath, accepting the arm that her father offered to her. Her heart was pounding, and despite the excitement, she was a little terrified. She was marrying her best friend, after being offered his ice cream cone fifteen years ago. The whole ceremony was a blur, thanks to her excitement and nerves...again. Then, she heard the most wonderful words of her life.
"I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride." Joel grinned, and wrapped his arms around her, dipping her to the side and kissing her. When they pulled back, she had the biggest grin in the world on her face. Then, he scooped her up, carrying her back up the aisle.
"I told you I'd wait for you." She whispered, and he kissed her again, setting her down.
"I'm glad you waited for me, love."
Wait for me, Love.
