Chapter 7
Ther grocery store was little more than a common Mom-and-Pop shop. There were snacks in abundance, for customers who were never coming again, and a total of three different conveyor belts for check out. Someone must have come through shortly after the beginnning of the end of the world and cleared out the cash.
The group of mutants avoided the back room labelled "Employees Only" and the foul stench that came from it.
They had laid Julia on the floor behind the counter, just enough so that if she woke up suddenly, she wouldn't be able to make the doors, before someone else caught her. Not that she was in any positition to be running around.
(Oliver wasn't a medic, but he was pretty sure that fainting from fear was probably not a good thing, and he told them all so.)
Beside that they had all packed various bags for their impending trip: foods, ducktape, various water bottles. Oliver himself opted to grab a pack of cigarettes and a lighter. The storm was letting out the buckets of water, turning the dull street center even gloomier. It was a good guess that not even Nova would move from cover in this down pour.
They had time. Granted, it wasn't a lot of time, but it was still there. After all, they had managed to save the world from aliens in about thirty minutes-- rescuing Squirt, helping Donnie, and getting back in time to protect Lightning "Storm" Storm should be a piece of cake.
Oliver had managed to recreate an unrefined version of his magic mutant power enhancing potion from god knows what medicines were behind the counter. And he had it ready for when the teenager woke up again.
If they were going to argue over it, the time to do it was now.
