2 days left.
Yeonjun's days are filled with her. It doesn't matter where he is or what's he's doing. If he's not with her, he's thinking about her. If he's not thinking about her, he's lying right next to her, sleeping.
He never goes home or checks his phone anymore. All that matters is that Kiera's back. She isn't able to leave the hospital yet, but the nurses let him stay all the time. She wakes up in his arms and he falls asleep with her smile imprinted in his mind. It's the happiest Yeonjun has been in over a year.
He sings to her every night. At first, it was just quiet humming because he felt self-conscious. But as time went on, Yeonjun's voice grew stronger, and so did his love for her.
Kiera's eyes were brighter than he remembered. The way she smiled at him lit up his world. He never thought he'd ever get to hear her laugh again, and now it plays on loop in his head. He would record every time she talked, if he could.
There were nights they didn't sleep until the early morning. She told him about the darkness and how his voice was the only reason she held on for so long. He explained why he left school and how he saved her before the doctor pulled her plug.
The people they never talked about? Choi Soobin and Kai.
Their names were never mentioned, but they overshadowed every conversation the two had. It was like a dark cloud hanging over them that didn't have the decency to rain.
Yeonjun almost brought up Soobin multiple times before catching himself. He doesn't want to ruin this time with her. Discussing your dead brother, whom your girlfriend killed, probably isn't the best way to pass time.
So they ignore that topic, instead talking about everything else. The nurses come in occasionally, checking on Kiera.
They've become the talk of the break room at the hospital; every worker knows their names. Remember that boy? Choi Yeonjun? They whisper among themselves. His girl woke up.
It's a miracle. One only love can do.
They were looked at with kindness and happiness. Whenever either of them was seen in the hallway, the nurses did anything they could to help. Whether it was Yeonjun or Kiera, they were treated with love and well wishes. If only they knew the secrets they harbored.
Yeonjun wasn't the only one who struggled with keeping the conversations happy. Kiera was consumed with worry about Kai. Did Yeonjun really break away from that situation? Or is he still intertwined with that side?
But neither voiced their worries, and presented a happy front to the other. So wrapped up in themselves, they didn't realize how they both were suffering.
A buzz from Yeonjun's phone interrupts a heated debate on whether cotton candy is overrated. Apprehensive, he checks it to see a message from Kai.
The blaming texts stopped about a week ago, around the time Kiera woke up. And surprisingly, Kai had left him alone. Now, he's back to himself.
You have two days left with her. Enjoy it while you can.
