Declan Rice x Mason Mount

Translation of my oneshot: Mason Mount x Declan Rice [hidden]

words: 2015

Mason POV:

It was already late in the evening when I heard a key unlocking the front door, which fell shut again only a few seconds later. I was lying on the sofa in the living room. The tv was turned on but I was only listening to it with one ear. With the other I listened to the sounds coming from the corridor.

I heard a key falling on the cupboard and the rustling of a jacket. Then the sound of shoes falling to the floor and steps nearing the living room. Only two seconds later Declan shoved his head trough the door.

"Hey.", he whispered, smiling, and I couldn't help but smile back. Hell, his smile was infectious. "Hi.", I replied. Declan shoved the rest of his body through the door and walked over to me to press a kiss on my forehead. After that he lifted up my legs to sit down underneath them but when he put them down again, I sat up without further ado and complicatedly turned myself around 180 degrees, so I could place my head comfortably in his lap.

"How was it?", I finally asked, after turning off the television and nearly falling off the sofa doing so. "It was fun.", Declan answered, gently running his fingers through my hair, which made me close my eyes in enjoyment.

Now I couldn't see the others face anymore but I didn't need to. I knew that he smiled anyway. "Great.", I murmured, trying to somehow make more contact. "How are you?", asked Dec as a result of that. He sounded a bit worried because the fact that I wanted more contact than usual usually suggested, that I was sick or getting there. Today I had already felt a bit more worn out after training than usual, which was why I decided to stay home and not go out with Declan and a few friends.

At first Dec hadn't wanted to leave me on my own but I had convinced him that I would get along. After all I wasn't terminally ill and just because I needed a little break before the game tomorrow didn't mean he couldn't go out with some friends.

"I'm fine, Dec. Really. Just a little sore from training. But tomorrow I'll be fully there again and we will sweep y'all off the pitch!" A mischievous grin creeped onto my lips while I spoke the last sentence. Declan laughed. "If somebody is going to be swept off the pitch tomorrow, it will clearly be you!" I could only roll my eyes to that comment. "Yeah.", I said, "Sure."

Suddenly I felt Decs' left hand leave my hair, instead I now rested on my hands and I realized I had subconsciously fidgeted with the ring on my left ring finger the whole time. It was a wedding ring. Declan owned a similar one.

We had gotten married about two years ago, after being together already for roughly five years. It had been a spontaneous decision. No guests, no party ─ just us two and the justice of the peace. We didn't even have rings. We had gotten those later at the jeweller's.

Thinking about that day automatically made me smile. My mum probably had not yet forgiven me that she hadn't been allowed to join and my grandma still went on at me about how I would regret one day not having had a big party. But to me the day had been perfect.

"I love you.", I heard Dec whisper and shortly after I felt a gentle kiss being placed on my hairline. "Love you too.", I mumbled tiredly. My husband chuckled. "Come on, sleepy head. We're going to bed."

When I woke up the next morning, I felt able to tackle anything. Well, maybe not anything, but a lot. Motivated I flipped the duvet to the side, so I could get up. The sound of tinkling dishes coming from the kitchen made it clear, that Declan had started preparing breakfast. I dressed up hurriedly before I made my way to join him.

In the early afternoon we both went to meet up with our teams, after spending the morning together. But since after the game we were going to go home together anyway, we shared a car and Dec just dropped me off at the Chelsea training grounds before he drove to the grounds of West Ham. That way we (or more like Declan) may have made a detour in the morning but it was easier to get home later.

"Hey mate!" Chilly greeted me almost the second I entered the grounds. "Hey!", I replied before we shook hands and hugged shortly. "Did Dec drop you off?", my compatriot asked, grinning. I nodded. "Oh yeah, love is so beautiful!" Ben giggled and I realized I must have had an Oh-I'm-so-im-love expression on my face at the mentioning of my husband.

Immediately I shot a warning look in Chillys' direction. "Shhhh!", I shushed him, nodding into the direction of Kai, Timo, Reece and some of the others, who were standing only a few meters next to us. Only a little amount of people knew about the relationship between Declan and me. We could very well go without comments like: "Are you sure it's not just a phase?" or "You're way too young to be married!". Ben was one of the few to know, besides our families and some close friends.

A few hours later I sat on my space in the dressing room. The game was about to start and I was really looking forward to it. Playing against Declan was always special. It wasn't bad like how we had always thought in the beginning. No, we were both way too professional. Neither of us would something that had happened on the pitch let influence our relationship off the pitch. "Mase, you coming?", asked Kai, who suddenly appeared next to me, fully dressed. "Yeah.", I said, standing up and following the German to the players' tunnel.

Some other players were already waiting there. From our team and from West Ham. Declan was there too and smiled at me when he saw me. "Good luck.", he mouthed at me a bit later while we were walking through the tunnel, towards the light of the pitch.

The game was well balanced. Some good chances on our side and some nice shots on target on the Hammers' side. I almost felt sorry for Dec, when he made a beautiful shot on the goal, which was only a few millimetres too high and only hit the crossbar. Almost.

The first half ended 0:0. So it wasn't surprising that the match got more aggressive with the start of the second half. Both teams were eager to win.

So it came that Declan got the ball from Reece in the middle of the second half and immediately started running to the goal. He had speed and no defender was to be seen. He just had to hit the ball right and it would be a goal. In my mind I already pictured the Hammers' taking the lead, when suddenly Antonio appeared out of nowhere and tackled him.

Everything happened in slow motion. Toni tackled Declan, who had not at all see the German coming and flew through the air. Then he came back down, landing on his head and staying down on the grass, unconscious. My heart skipped a beat. As fast as I could I sprinted across the field to my husband. "Dec!", I panted, as I settled down beside him. Tears built up in my eyes, carefully I caressed his cheeks with my hands. "Dec!", I breathed, "Declan! Wake up!"

Only incidentally I noticed how the paramedics arrived and began to examine him. Antonio saw a straight red for his tackle but I didn't care. I was too focussed on my husband, who was unconscious. "Mason, Mase!", I suddenly heard a voice come through. It was Ben. My teammate had put his hands on my shoulders and tried to pull me back a bit. "Come on, you need to make space fore the medics!", he tried but I just shook my head. Under no circumstances I would leave Dec now.

I gripped onto my husbands' hand firmly. Ben and the others had stopped trying to pull me back and the medics didn't complain. They just worked around me and were putting Declan onto a stretcher so they could carry him off the pitch when he opened his eyes. "Dec!", I exclaimed relievedly and I gripped onto his hand even tighter. "Mase.", he answered quietly with a scratchy voice. "Shhh, I'm here. It's gonna be okay." I whispered and again tears rose in my eyes. This time from relief.

I didn't even leave Declans side for a second as they carried him off the pitch. I gripped his hand and walked with them. "Mason, what are you doing?", Thomas exclaimed when I didn't turn around at the edge of the field and just kept on walking. "Going to the hospital with him.", I replied without hesitation. "No, you won't! We need you here!", he ordered but I didn't care. "Yes, I will. Send Chris on instead of me he can do it as well as I do.", I shot back. "They won't let you drive with him! You're neither related nor married.", the coach now tried to ague. But I just laughed when I heard that argument. "Actually, we are.", I answered, "Married, I mean."

In that moment I didn't even care, that everywhere around us were microphones. Because the look on Thomas' face which followed, was totally worth it. It was a shame I couldn't look at it longer but I needed to go, otherwise the ambulance would have left without me.

"Don't you ever scare me like that again!", I demanded of Declan, who now was lying in a bed at the hospital. The doctors had examined him thoroughly. The diagnosis were a concussion and a bruised wrist. Otherwise, my husband was fine and already able to make stupid jokes again.

"Well, I couldn't do much about it. Rüdiger tackled me.", Declan argued with a slight grin on his face. I rolled my eyes but I had to admit that he was of course right. "Dec?", I started after a short silence. "Hm?" "I have to tell you something." Declan worriedly frowned at my sheepish voice. "What? What happened?" I grimaced. "I...well...the coach didn't want me to leave with you and maybe it slipped out of my mouth that we're...you know..." I shrugged helplessly.

For a moment there was silence. "You outed us?" Declans' voice sounded objective. Not mad, not happy, objective. "Yeah.", I forced myself to answer, "More or less in front of the whole world. There where mics all over. I bet everybody knows until now. I'm sorry." "Hey, don't apologize.", my husband smiled calmingly, "It's already happened now, you can't do anything about it. And honestly, I was about time." "You're not mad?", I asked surprisedly. "No!", Declan replied in an instant and took my hand, "I love you, Mase and sooner or later it was bound to happen." "I love you too.", I smiled and pulled my phone out.

When I opened Instagram, I felt like I had been struck by a lightning. I hadn't had that many messages since we had won the Champions League. It didn't take me long to find a video of my conversation with Thomas. The sound wasn't as clear as I had expected but one could still understand every single word.

The comments below the video were blowing up. "Oh my god!" was something I found often, together with: "I knew it!". Negative comments were rare so they had most definitely been deleted or been stomped over by a bunch of positive comments. Although we couldn't really give the comments a closer look because suddenly my display showed Kai calling.

I answered but wasn't able to say a words because Kai immediately screamed excitedly: "WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME?!"
