Recipe 46: Mission
Roadtrip Day 15
Location: Naga City
Alice Flonne's POV:
It's minutes past midnight...
"Sir! Sir! It's an emergency!" Peter's barangay tanods came running towards him.
"What is it, then?" The barangay chairman turns around and talk to his troops.
"There's a fifteen year old kid stuck on the edge of the ditch!" One of the tanods orients about the situation. "That ditch is very deep so if that kid falls into it, he will drown!"
"What?!?! We patrolled the area and we thought that there are no more kids outside? Ehem...anyway, did you call the police?"
"Yes, sir." Another tanod replies to him.
"Okay, then. Let's go to where the incident is."
"Wait, sir...." The team is about to leave to the site when Lexi calls them.
"Huh? What do you need?"
"If you want, we can take you to the place." Alex makes an offer for dagat transport through our truck.
"That's great! Thank you."
Peter and his team then gets into our truck...there not so many but...umm...I think that makes our truck somewhat heavy. But that's okay, trucks like this are designed to withstand this kind of heavy road, right? Hehehe!
One of Peter's barangay tanods guided Peter in driving into the place of the incident...where we saw...that the situation itself is not easier then we thought...it was a big kid...with his hand stuck on the railings on the edge of the ditch. Usually, heavyweights are easy to fall because their weight cannot hold any thing that they cling on much longer. So they need to rescue that kid...fast.
The kid is surrounded by other barangay tanods serving as rescuers, as well as some random people...perhaps that's the kid's family and relatives...
"Help! Help!"
"Kid! Just calm down!" One rescuer attempts to intervene with the boy. "We will whatever we can to save you!"
As my eyes glanced around my surroundings...I didn't notice...that Lexi is already gone from the food truck.
"Umm...guys, where is Lexi right now?"
"Oh...he said to me that he will help the rescuers." Danica relays my boyfriend's message. Well, I can't argue with that...Lexi's strong enough to help rescue the boy. Hehehe!
Alex's POV:
It's really harder than expected...
I just discovered from the rescuers the risk they are about to take. Without any professional help, it might lead to tragedy...
"Sir, we can't solder the kid out of the railings!" One of the rescuers told Peter. "If we do, he will just fall to the ditch!"
"But how in the world can we save the boy?!" Peter asks them furiously. "The railings cannot hold the boy much longer! Much worse, if the railings fall with him, it will cover the ditch...he can't go out...and he will be trapped and drown!"
"Well, do you have any rope?" Peter asked them further.
"No, sir."
"ARGH!!! WHAT WE'RE GONNA DO NOW?" Peter just stomped his feet out of disappointment. "Police are not coming for the next minutes! We will just let the kid fall and drown?!"
"...creeep...." And just as the Peter scolded his troops, the railings of the ditch is cracking up...as it is threatening to fall to the ditch. As fast as lightning, the tanods positioned themselves in the railings, trying to delay its collapse before the police arrives. But...Peter's right, this railings may can't take it any longer...if only there's another way...hmm...
Alice Flonne's POV:
"...creeep..."
I hear the railings starting to collapse...and the tanods are trying to prevent it...this is not good...if only there's another way...hmm...
Wait...something came up from my mind...let's see...I opened my cabinet in front of me...well, that's because I can't turn and move my wheelchair because of the truck's tight space...and I take a dental floss. Wait, a dental floss? What does it do for rescuing a kid? I pulled out a meter of floss...and tried to straighten it...hmm...hmm...I guess it's as strong as a rope...hmm...wait, strong as a rope?! That's it!!! I know what I'm gonna do!!!
"Lexi! Lexi!" I called my boyfriend outside to come to me.
"Oh! What is it, Flonne?"
"Here! Catch!" I throw the dental to Lexi, in which he caught it nicely.
"A dental floss? What's will gonna do in this situation?"
"You can solder the kid...you just tie the boy with that floss!"
"Bu-but...what if the floss will break apart?" Lexi doubts my idea...but instead of being angry at him...
"Lexi, how you ever doubt me once?" I smiled at him and winked. "Just trust me again, okay?"
I won't regret convincing him...in an idea that has never been tried before...I believe in my guts...I know that my little dental floss...will never let me down.
"Hey, Flonne. What's special with that floss?" Danica wonders an asked me. "Is floss really strong enough to withstand that kid?"
"Yes, Danica. I believe Alice knows what she is doing now." Claire answered the question for me. "Dental floss has enough textile strength for so many random household work so floss can help pull the boy out, you just need to wrap the boy's hand with lots of floss."
I just looked upon my friends and simply giggled.
Alex's POV:
I run towards Peter and presented him the dental floss the Flonne is given me.
"Peter! How about this?" I handed over the floss.
"I see...I know flosses is as strong as a rope." Then Peter directed the troops. "Guys, tie the boy's hand with this floss...push on with the soldering...and make a firm grip into that floss. I know this plan could be a rough one, but hang on and we can do this!"
The tanods complied with what the barangay chairman is directed to do...two of them is busy wrapping the boy's hand with several rolls of floss, while others are either busy soldering apart a portion of the railing where the boy is stuck...or holding the rest of the railings to prevent its collapse.
"Get ready!" As the soldering is nearly complete, Peter prepared his tanods to pull the boy up with the floss. Me myself volunteered to be one of them Until...
"AAAAH!!!!"
"PUUULL!!!" They pull the floss just as the boy starts to fall into the ditch...along with the railings...we give everything that we got to pull the boy back up. "HAAAA!!!!"
"HIS HEAD IS UP! IT'S WORKING! GO, PULL HIM UP QUICKLY!"
The boy's family finally make some action, helping each other to finally lift the boy into safety. After few moments of heart-stopping action, we are successful in our mission to safe an innocent boy from death. The boy was pulled out entirely of the railings, hugged his family and walk home together...
"Thank you so much for helping us rescue the boy." Peter told me with gratitude. "We couldn't done that without your floss."
"Hehehe! Your welcome...but actually, the floss that I given to you..it came from Flonne...she has think a great idea to use the floss as an alternative."
"Flonne? Ehehehe...sorry but who is Flonne?" Peter scratched his head as he asks me. "I didn't asked for your name yet."
"Hehehe! It's okay!" I walk with him towards the food truck. "My girlfriend, Flonne, is the girl in the wheelchair who cooks Bicol Express for you. Trust her and she will give you the best delicious food...that could solve your everyday problems!"
Alice Flonne's POV:
I heard it loud and clear...all of what Lexi said to Peter about me. I'm so happy!
"Oh, I see! I can say now that your girlfriend really is something." Peter complimented me. "Well then, my most preferred dish is this lady's Bicol Express!"
"Yaaay!!! I won! Hehehe!" I giggled with so much joy about my victory. "In your face, dweeb!"
But instead to retaliate, Lexi just smiled at me. I make a clean fight, right?
"Oh, Peter! There's something I wanna ask of you!" Suddenly, Lexi pleas to the barangay chairman.
"Certainly, I'm just about to give you all a reward. But since you have a request, go on...say it."
Lexi then whispers to Peter...I wonder what he is talking about. But regardless, the chairman approves it.
"Okay, thanks! I'm gonna get it tomorrow!" With a smile on their faces, the two boys goes to separate ways for now: Lexi returns back to our truck, while Peter continues on with his routine patrol.
"Well, can I ask you about what you pleaded back then?" Out of quick curiosity, I asked my boyfriend.
"Oh, sure! Just make it a secret until I get it tomorrow, okay?"
I happily nodded as I turn my ear to him on what he is about to say to me.
"Peter will give us lots of money from his own pocket to sustain your business...but more than that...he will give you crutches so you can walk...or at least limp more often."
"Re-really?! Tha-that's great!!"
"I know, right? If this keeps up, we can travel everywhere...and perhaps you can walk again in no ti-whoa!"
Lexi didn't finish what he is saying...as I hug him very tightly.
"Thank you! Thank you so much for your wonderful gift to me!"
"Your welcome, Flonne." I replied and hug her back. "Alright, I let you win, but next time...okay?"
"Yeah, right!" That's when Lexi fall unto my trap...I didn't let him go from the hugs...and tickled him on his side!
"HEHEHE! WHA-WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! HEHEHE!!! YO-YOU'RE TI-TICKLING ME!!! HEHEHE!!!"
"HA! That's my payback from what you did earlier! HEHEHE!!!"
